Hi! Thank you for reverting my edit on The Sunless City; I didn't realize I had done something unhelpful since I had seen similar links elsewhere in the same text. I'd like to learn better. What rule should I learn to follow? (I mean this genuinely.) Sylvar (talk) 02:56, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Sylvar: Hello. First, I would like to thank you for contributing here, we are very grateful for any new contributor. The way of using wikilinks is described at Wikisource:Style guide#Wikilinks. So in our particular case the link should not be
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anoplotherium anoplotherium]
, which gives anoplotherium, but it should be[[w:Anoplotherium|anoplotherium]]
, which gives anoplotherium. However, I would like to ask you to be careful when linking from Wikisource texts to Wikipedia articles. I personally belong to contributors who do not like such links at all as they add there something what the authors of the original text did not intend: reference to a text which they had not read and sometimes even might not agree with. But if you, having considered my objection, decide to add the link and do it in compliance with the style guide, I will not revert it again. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 06:32, 26 August 2022 (UTC)- Thank you very much for teaching me! I respect your objection. Since this is not an annotated version as described in Wikisource:Annotations, I agree that my edit was wrong. Sylvar (talk) 17:19, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
