ఆ a, The second letter of the Telugu alphabet. 2. The indeclinable remote demonstrative pronoun, That. As, ఆతల్లి atalfi, That mother. ఆకొడుకులు akoclukulu, Those sons. The connected form of ఆ a,(ా ) when affixed to the last word in a sentence, or to a single word alone, denotes interrogation; as తెలుసునా telusuna, Is it understood ? మీరా mira, You ? వాడా vada, He ?

ఆంతర్యము antaryamu, s. The mind. 2. Opinion.

ఆలోచన alochana, s. Looking at, or examining any thing. 2. Consul- tation, consideration, reflexion, deliberation. 3. Advice, council. 4. View, intention. This word has now become applied to the council of Government, and ఆలోచనకర్త alochanakarta, Is the usual term for a member of council. ఆలోచించు alochintsu, v. a. To view, consider, consult, deliberate, or reflect.
ఆళ్లు aliu, s. A species of gram, vide ఆఱికెలు arrikelu.
ఆవ ava, 5. Low ground outside of a village. 2. Mustard seed. 3. Recollection ఆవపారు avaparu, v. n. To come to one's recollection. ఆవమామిడికాయ avamamidikaya. Mangoe pickle, made with mustard seed and oil.
ఆవటించు avatintsu, 0. n. To inhale air ; as వాడు గాలి ఆవటించి బ్రతికెను vadu gali avatinehi l;-ratikenu, He lived upon air. i. e. He had no means of subsistence.
ఆవడబీరచెట్టు avadabirachettu, s. A bitter acute angled cucumber.
ఆవము avamu, s. Mustard seed, vide ఆవ ava, 2. A kiln, for burning- bricks, pots, tiles, <fce. ఆవరణము ávaraṇamu, s. The space enlosed round a house, or garden. ఆవరించు ávarintsu, To surround or encompass.
ఆవర్తము ávartamu, s. A whirlpool 2. Hair naturally curled,
ఆవల ávala, adv. vide. అవతల avatala,
ఆవలించు ávalintsu, v. n. To yawn, to gape. s. ఆవలింత ávalinta, yawning.
ఆవాహనము áváhanamu, s. The invocation of the deity, or of evil spirits, by mystical words. 2. The bringing down the spirit of the deity into idols.
ఆవి ávi. s. Vapour, exhalations from the earth.
ఆవిడ, ఆవిడె áviḍa, áviḍe, pro, vide ఆబిడ ábiḍa.
ఆవిరి áviri, s. Steam or vapour. 2. The heat of the breath.
ఆవిర్భవించు, ఆవిర్భవిల్లు ávirbhavintsu, ávirbhavillu, v. n. To be born.
ఆవు ávu, s. A cow. చూడియావు tsúḍiyávu, A cow with calf. పాడియావు páḍiyávu, A milch cow. ఆవునుపితుకు ávunupituku, To milk a cow.
ఆవులించు ávulintsu, v. n. vide. ఆవలించు ávalintsu.
ఆవేశనము áveśanamu, s. A manufactory, or work-shop.
ఆవేశము ávésamu, s. Inspiration by the deity. 2. Possession by evil spirits. 3. Fury; demoniacal frenzy. ఆవేశమువచ్చు ávéśamuvatstsu, To be inspired by the deity; to be possessed by an evil spirit.
ఆశ ása, s. Love, attachament. 2. Desire or wish of any kind; curiosity avarice 3. Hope. ఆశపడు áśapaḍu, To fall in love 2. To desire, covet or long for. ఆశకొలుపు áṡakolupu, To allure, encourage, or give hope. ఆశాపాతకుడు áṡápatakuḍu, A very ambitious or avaricious man.
ఆశీర్వచనము, ఆశీర్వాదము áṡírvachanamu, áṡírvádamu, s. A blessing, or benediction. ఆశీర్వదించు áṡírvadintsu, To bless, to give a benediction. ఆశీస్సు asssu, A blessing.
ఆశౌచము áṡauchamu, s. The usual term of mourning on the death of a relative, or of imaginary pollution, proceeding from the birth of a child : during which the Hindoos consider themselves impure. The former is commonly termed మృతాశౌచము mritáṡauchamu, The latter జాతాశౌచము játáaucham.
ఆశ్చర్యము áṡcharyamu, s. Wonder, astonishment. 2. Surprize 3. Admiration. ఆశ్లేషము asleshamu, s. An embrace. ఆశ్లేషించు asleshintsu, To embrace; to clasp.
ఆశ్వయుజము, ఆశ్వనము asvayujamu, asvinamu, 5. The 7 th. Telugu lunar month; that in which the moon's change takes place, when the sun is in Libra.
ఆశ్వాసము asvasamu, s, A chapter or section. 2. Consolation.
ఆషాఢము ashadhamu, s. The 4 th. Telugu lunar month ; that in which the moon's change takes place when the sun is in Cancer.

ఆసక్తి asakti, 5. Ardent attachment to one object or pursuit ; inclination.
ఆసనము asanamu, s. Any thing to sit upon ; a mat, tiger skin, seat, stool. &c. 2. The anus.
ఆసప్రాసము asaprasamu , s. Hard breathing, from great oppression or fatigue.
ఆసరా asara, s. vide ఆశ్రయము asrayamu.
ఆసాను asanu, s. Support, protection.
ఆసామి asami, 5. An individual. 2. An employment.
ఆసు as it, 5 Three sticks, in a line, fixed in the ground, on which cotton thread is placed, always passing the middle one so as to form the figure 8 ; this is done to prepare the warp, without entan- glement, for the loom. ఆసుకోవి asukovi, A small hollow bamboo, through which the thread is passed, when placed as above.

ఆస్కారము askaramu, s Basis, ground, foundation. 2. Support, countenance.
ఆస్తి asti, s. Property, effects, wealth, capital, riches, estate. ఆస్తికాపు astikapu, A rich person ; a rich ryot.
ఆస్తికుడు astikullu, s. A man who acknowledges the existence of a god, in opposition నాస్తికుడు nastikudu, An atheist.
ఆస్థ astha, s. Regard, fondness.
ఆస్థానము, ఆస్థాని asthanamu, asthani, s. A hall of audience. 2. A court of justice. 3. The assembled court of a prince.
ఆస్పదము aspadamu, s. Place, room. 2. Situation. 3. Basis, ground, authority. 4. Support.
ఆహా aha, interj. Denoting Wonder, sorrow, gladness,
ఆహారము aharamu, s. Food, nourishment. 2. Taking, conveying. ఆహుతి ahuti, s. Offering oblations, with fire.
ఆహ్వానము ahvanarau, s. A summons; calling.
ఆక్షేపము akshepamii, s. Censure, blame, reproach. 2. A criticism. 3. Objection. 4. A questIon. ఆక్షేపించు akshepintso, To criticise, to object, to question. నిరాక్షేపము nirakshepamu, Above all question; blame, or reproach.
