Usage

This template is roughly equivalent to the built-in [[w:1|2]] syntax for linking to English Wikipedia. The second parameter (which is optional) changes the appearance of the link.

It could be helpful when the pipe character "|" might interfere with conditional statements (see Conditional tables).

Example

• {{w|United States|U.S.}} (U.S.) is equivalent to [[w:United States|U.S.]] (U.S.).

• {{w|United States}} (United States) is equivalent to [[w:United States|]] (United States).

• {{w|United States (album)}} (United States (album)) is equivalent to [[w:United States (album)|United States (album)]].
  • That is, this template does not strip trailing parentheticals in the same way as the built-in [[w:United States (album)|]] (United States).
