ABBOTT, Thomas Kingsmill, Irish educator: b. Dublin, 26 March 1829; d. 1913. He was a graduate of Trinity College. In 1867 he was appointed to fill the chair of moral philosophy at the same institution, which position he held until 1872. From 1875 to 1888 he was professor of biblical Greek and from 1879 until 1900 he was professor of Hebrew. His works are: a translation of Kant's ‘Introduction to Logic’ (1878), and Kant's ‘Ethics’ (1909); ‘Essays’ (1892); ‘The Elements of Logic’ (1895); ‘Commentary on Ephesians and Colossians’ (1897); ‘Elementary Theory of the Tides’ (1901); ‘Catalogue of 15th Century Books in the Library of Trinity College’ (1905).
