Krishnaswami Iyengar, S., M.A., M.R.A.S., F.R.H.S., University Professor of Indian History and Archaeology, Madras; b. Sakkotai near Kumbakonam, Tanjore District, 1871; completed his early education in his village; removed to Bangalore and joined the St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore; joined the Central College, Bangalore; passed B.A., with Physics as his optional subject, 1893; joined service in the Education department of Mysore, 1893; passed M.A., 1900; turned his attention to research work; elected, M.R.A.S., on the motion of the late Mr. Romesh Chander Dutt; elected F.R.H.S. on the motion of Professor Rhys Davids and H.H. the late Valia Koil Tampuran of Travancore; delivered his 1st lecture at Madras under the auspices of the South Indian Association, 1904; nominated as a Member of the Board of Studies in History and Economics; became Member of the Board of Examiners in History and Economics; reverted to Central College, Bangalore, 1900; became Lecturer in History, Central College, Bangalore, 1904; became Assistant Inspector-General of Education, Mysore State, 1913-14; again reverted to Central College, Bangalore, as Professor of English; nominated a Fellow of the Madras University, 1912; is an ex-President, and now a Member of the South Indian Association, Madras; Member of the Mythic Society, Bangalore.
