PÁTZCUARO, päts'kwȧ-rṓ. A town of Mexico in the State of Michoacán, situated on the south shore of the beautiful Lake Pátzcuaro, 38 miles southwest of Morelia (Map: Mexico, H 8). It is irregularly built, with narrow, crooked streets, but is very picturesque in appearance, being surmounted by a church built on the top of a high hill. It is noted for the manufacture of fine furniture and beautiful featherwork. Population, in 1895, 7082. Pátzcuaro is supposed to have been the ancient capital of the Tarasca Indians.
