THE SONG OF THE GREY HEN.

There once was a little grey hen
Who went to lay in the church,
 She laid a little egg[1]
Which the child ate quite hot.

There once was a little white hen
Who went to lay in the barn,
 She laid a little egg
For the child who was sleeping.

There once was a little yellow hen
Who went to lay under the prison,[2]
 She laid a little egg
Which the child ate quite hot.
