51: Laws of prayer from "Baruch she'amar" until "Yishtabach".

1 One says "Baruch she'amar" before "pesukei d'zimra" and "Yishtabach" afterwards.

2 If one finished "Baruch she'amar" before the "chazan" has finished, one responds "Amen" after him.

3 One may answer Amen after his own reading of Yishtabach.

[And see below, Chapter 215].

4 One must be careful not to interrupt by talking from the beginning of Baruch Sheamar until after Shemona Esreh. And one should not speak between Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach even for the sake of a mitzvah [Beit Yosef in the name of Kol Bo]. [And see below, Chapters 53 and 54].

5 Between these psalms, one asks about another's well being as a show of honor and one responds to anyone's greeting. And in the middle of the psalm, one asks about another's well being out of fear and one responds as a show of honor.

6 One must stop between "idols" and "and God made the heavens".

7 One must have intent at the verse "You open Your hand". And if he did not have intent, he must repeat and say it another time. Gloss: And the verse "And we shall bless God" is said after "A praise to David" [Tur and Kol Bo]. And the verse "Every thing that has breath shall praise God" is said twice because it's the conclusion of "pesukei d'zimra" (Tur); and so too, the verse "God shall reign forever and ever" [Abudarham]. When one reaches "And You, God, our God, we thank You", or the verse "and every ‎high ‎stature shall bow down to You", one should not bend down‏ and bow over there as below, Chapter 113 [Rabbenu Yonah, end of Chapter "One Does Not Stand"; and Rabbenu Yerucham, Netiv 1]. And the custom is to stand while saying "Baruch she'amar", "And David blessed", and "Yishtabach".

8 The psalms are not said quickly; rather, only with tranquility.
9 One should say "A Psalm of thanksgiving" with melody because in the future, all the poetries will be cancelled, except for "A Psalm of thanksgiving". Gloss: And "A Psalm of thanksgiving" is not said on Sabbath and yom tob [Tur]; nor on the days of Passover, for the thank offering is not offered on them because of hametz; and not on Passover eve; and see below, Chapter 429; and not on Yom Kippur eve; and see below, Chapter 604; and so is the custom in these provinces [Customs].
