Chap. LVIII.—An Act for the relief of Edward Hallowell.
Compensation for property destroyed.Be it enacted, &c., That the proper accounting officers of the war department be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to audit and settle the several claims and accounts of Jacob Shinnick, and Shoultz and Vogeler, of Christian Chapman, and the legal representative of John Calef, deceased, on account of the destruction, by the United States, of their rope-walks, and other property therein deposited, in the vicinity of Baltimore, in such manner and upon such terms as may embrace the justice of their claim.
Appropriation.Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the amount thereof, when audited by the competent authority, shall be paid to the proper owners thereof, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, upon such claimant releasing to the United [States] all claim on account of the property aforesaid.
