You don't have to figure out how to do it all at once, it's the kind of thing you pick up slowly over time if you continue editing texts here. Gigantic dinosauria with horns

Hi once again, and nice to see you still on Wikisource. :) I've (nearly) validated this index, and I must say it was a nice change after lots of fiction and poetry. Good work you've done. ;) I did some formatting as well, and I thought I should just let you know that there is a missing image on the third page, so if you could upload that as well, the whole index could be validated. Also a note on footnotes--they are usually created using the <ref> tag, and displayed in the footer using the <references /> tag or {{smallrefs}}. They are then included separately at the bottom of the text in the main namespace. Wiktionary links.

Hello. Please do not consider this to be advice, far more an inquiry into your preferences:

I note you tend to make wiktionary links using the [[wikt:]] syntax (whereas somehow I have fallen into the habit of making these links via use of the template {{WiktGray}} or its shortcut {{wg}}.)

The net result is similar but presents the link in a slightly different fashion. In particular "your" method looks indistinguishable from a Wikipedia link at least until it is followed.

Would you mind please expanding upon which style you ultimately prefer and why? (I shall attempt to conform with whichever choice you indicate from here on.)

Hello, Abyssal. quid pro quo literally means something for something. It is a barter, an exchange, often used in the past. I think the idea is good just as I have already posted on how I have given and received validations &c. But there are few of us here, myself included and others, who have validated as "something for nothing". I have been here, under an alias, for 6 years now and I have done both - something for something and something for nothing. I know of a couple of people that have also done this. However in looking at the idea we all do whatever we do for wikisource itself. Still, when I am weary of a project I often will roam about reading and proofing and validating other people's works and for myself and for building up wikisource. Another point is that I start "new" projects while another is not validated and just sits. People need to have understanding and or a like for the topics. I have about 5 projects now that are in different stages of completion. When I tire of one there are 4 different projects (about 40 more if I could the SHSP volumes. Type in SHSP in the search area. I have that I can go to for any stress relief and non-validated works are stress for some of the editors. I also work with projects that have images that need to be worked on and that too is a change of pace for me and a friend here on Wikisource. Now I will go to the area you have mentioned. Re your aborted qustion to WS:S

At Scriptorium you asked a question about image placement. Generally we don't try to replicate image placement by exact positioning. The reason for this is that books on a page have a fixed width, whereas the web deals with a broad range of widths through wide monitors to small handheld devices. So we decided that we generally just can centre an image, and keep it out of the way of the text, not wrapping text around the work.

Your WikiProject Template question

Greetings, Abyssal. I noticed your question related to the WikiProject template and I may be able to help you with that. This is a very complex template (probably in the top 3 of complex templates actually) on ENWP so it may take some time to make it work. My first question is, is there some consensus on Wikisource that this is desired or is this just a general question you had. It has been my experience with working with WikiProjects that they can do a lot of good but they can also be very, very controversial. People who feel like the own certain topics tend to be very protective and take issue with someone arbitrarily tagging that article or entry with "their" Wikiproject tag when they didn't do any of the work. My 2nd question is, what options do you need? Some of the options currently available for use in the WikiProject banner template may not be needed here (such as support for Portals) so we can just remove that piece and not use it, thereby reducing the amount of effort it takes to use and maintain the code. I cannot edit at ENWP due to unfortunate circumstances I am attempting to get changed but if you comment here I will reply. Cheers! Reguyla (talk) 18:09, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

The community hasn't addressed the questions of WikiProjects tagging talk pages of works, though I don't think that we would particularly have a problem with it (personal opinion)where it has value and benefit. We do like and encourage WikiProjects, and we definitely want to see Portal pages. Do have a look at {{active projects}} and see if you can design an addition for that.

We encourage templates to be as simple as practically possible for usability reasons, though that focus is primarily for main namespace. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:42, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
