Thanks for the welcome! I do hope I can benefit Wikisource, having made an account in order to fix some flaws in the Constitution of the German Empire and the Montevideo Convention. I do hope we can work together to better bring to the world the collected documents of historical importance.

Constitution Act 1867

Hi. I went looking at stuff John linked to in your RfA and got to adjusting Constitution Act 1867; the net diff is [1], but it's clearer if you look at the individual edits; [2], [3], [4], [5]. The thing that got my attention was the use of id values that begin with a digit; they 'work' but are invalid; the W3C validator squawks and the spec is quite clear on this. Once in there, I found a few other things I thought should be adjusted and went for it. IDs also have to be a single token, i.e. no spaces; MediaWiki was making this conversion automatically, but it's better to specify the proper names in the wiki-text. Another thing I considered doing—but haven't—is adjusting some of the other IDs such as 'Part_I' to 'Preliminary' (or 'preliminary'). This would be more in line with what I did with the second tier IDs. IDs may be uppercase/mixedcase, and case is significant, but my practice for IDs used as anchors (and not for CSS selectors) is to always use lowercase because they appear in the url—and I typically use all lowercase there. Your timestamp is 4 minutes after my post here; I expect you were reviewing the edits as I went (which would be 'wiki-stalking'). I take no issue with it ;-)

If you want any tool to be a happy camper it would be nice to fixes the 'ambient errors'. Every page, on every wiki, generates warnings on the following;

The warning (from 'Tidy') is;

• Warning: '<' + '/' + letter not allowed here

and I believe the fix is to change the 5 '/' to '\/' in the php that's spitting the code (all the closing tags on the right). This seems to go away when there is no site notice at all. Cheers, Jack Merridew 07:32, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

All good reads (although it's been a while, Wide Sargasso Sea only about 10 years ago). I did read Pride and Prejudice again recently. See q:William Golding#Lord of the Flies (1954); I added about half the quotes there. fyi, I'll certainly notice when those 5 warnings go away.

Deleted Works

Hello, If you delete works, could you check or tell me so that I could copy them to Wikilivres when it is appropriate? i.e. The Man of Allah. Also why didn't you delete The Call Divine, which is part of the The Man of Allah? And you didn't delete the Preface and associated images. Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:57, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Yann. I wasn't familiar with Wikilivres; I've had a look around and registered an account there, and will keep a mental note of it in future. Also, if an admin speedy delete works without authorship information, we expect that they have checked that it is actually a copyvio and/or that the authorship information isnt readily found via a search. At Rise of Day We Sacrificed to the Wind God comes from Gutenberg. What we typically do is grab a bunch of these that are very difficult to research, and list them individually on WS:PD and then everyone panics and tries to prove that they are PD. Hilarity ensues. Once we get through the backlog of texts without a header or translator ({{no header}} and/or {{translator?}}) then we can move towards a "delete after a suitable delay/prompting" model. Spanish - English Dictionary for Beginners

Unfortunately Spanish - English Dictionary for Beginners wouldn't be appropriate on Wikibooks as-is, because English Wikibooks is not a dictionary and Wikibooks uses the GFDL license. If the work were added as an Appendix in a book on learning Spanish and everyone who had contributed to the work were willing to relicense the work under GFDL, than maybe it could be used on Wikibooks. I am not sure what requirements English Wiktionary has, Wiktionary's Appendix namespace might be an appropriate place for this as-is if Wiktionary accepts CC-BY-SA licensed works. --Darklama (talk) 18:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Oops, I didnt know CC was unacceptable for wikipedia. I saw it as one of the options on the upload page. I would be happy to give it a GFDL license, if I can just figure it out where to put it.... its also a pretty big file and im not sure if itd be appropriate for slow browsers (for editing). could you give me a hand putting it into wiktionary or let me know who might?Brinerustle (talk) 15:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

This month's Proofread of the Month, Index:The Pilgrim Cookbook.djvu, is still a ways away from being fully validated. However, we're within striking distance.

If all ten members proofread just two (but preferably three) pages a day, we'll be able to finish the book before the end of the month.
