Footnotes

[edit]

There's no need to go back and redo things you've already done, but I wanted to point out that {{footnote overflow}} isn't really used anymore. Instead on the first page we name the ref, e.g.

<ref name="page82note3">This is a</ref>

and on the second page we throw the continued text of the footnote on the bottom of the page with the follow parameter, e.g.

 <ref follow="page82note3">page-spanning footnote.</ref>.

Nops

[edit]

Oh, one other thing. The last line on the end of a page is going to merge with the first line of the next page as one paragraph. If you want the paragraph to end with the page and the next page to start with a new paragraph, put {{nop}} on a new line at the bottom of that page.

That aside, your work is really good so far, we appreciate it! Prosody (talk) 22:18, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tip, and for the compliment ! --Jerome Charles Potts (talk) 05:27, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

New template for quote marks

[edit]

Hi, just noticed your new template. We already have a series of templates ({{'}} etc.) that do something of what you're doing. Could these be used instead? The main reason I'm asking is that the thin-space character you've used shows up in some browsers as an unprintable character and when exporting to ePub shows as a question mark. This makes some texts unreadable without considerable mental energy. Cheers, Beeswaxcandle (talk) 09:17, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this input. Vaguely aware that such characters can pose some display problems in some situations (browser, font), i've been thinking about this for a while, and tonight chose the view of that it's time that those software get with the program.
Another possibility is to fiddle with "letter-spacing" or "padding-right" styles, but since those unicode chars already exist…

But, ah, indeed, it looks like {{'}} and its brethren have been thought out more than mine. --Jerome Charles Potts (talk) 09:30, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
As you can see there were plans for more in the series. I'm not sure why they weren't all done, but if they would be useful to you please feel free to carry on. Template creation isn't high in my skill set, but if you need help check with AuFCL who is good at sorting out the logic. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 09:38, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Feel free

[edit]

Feel free to mark your impeccable editing as "Proofread". I am referring to this page in particular. — Ineuw talk 20:10, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the compliment, there was very little to do on that page, was easy. I usually don't care to mark my work as proofread, that's against my religion (unless i'm actually proofreading, which i find really tedious, so i leave that to others, ahem, cough, cough. When i see an error, i usually tackle it, but that does not mean that i checked every bit there.). --Jerome Charles Potts (talk) 06:11, 13 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

EUSSR

[edit]

Hi. Deleted the work. We cannot work on what we think maybe their thoughts. It has a specific copyright statement, and nothing to dissuade us that we can do more. — billinghurst sDrewth 07:40, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: Did you have to delete its Talk page too, where our discussion started ? Perhaps also leaving the Main space page to remain, with its header and the copyright notice, its content replaced by an explanatory banner ? —Jerome Charles Potts (talk) 09:45, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

It is not typical to retain such faux records, nor Talk: ns pages without their parent. If you want a record, then I suggest to add something to WS:CV as a record. I have recovered the talk page, and moved it to your user talk namespace, and the deletion record will show as a pointer. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:11, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
