Local errors

[edit]

Hello! Sorry, I dont quite understand the issue. In all three cases mentioned you have just added //authority control// template which I edited to add correct(!) VIAF. The correct VIAF then populates GND. It might be that in some cases there are multiple VIAF corresponding to the same author, thus providing different GND. In such cases I try to identify the main VIAF cluster and use it. If this is the case thenone way to resolve it is to report it at Wikipedia, it will be reported to VIAF and they will merge the clusters. Cheers, Captain Nemo (talk).

Moved the discussion to your page. Hope you don't mind ;) --Kolja21 (talk) 10:19, 8 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
FWIW we are now relying on WD's data where we can, so in case like CTM, if the data is fully populated at WD then the AC template came be left as a parameter-less shell. The removal of current data in AC is progressing at leisurely rate. Further, where we can shove data to WD and can ensure its integrity there, that will increasingly by our methodology for dynamic data management. — billinghurst sDrewth 21:31, 21 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
In the author namespace, just strip the parameters of {{authority control}} if the Wikidata is up-to-date. The community has already agreed to do that for Author: ns. We will manually check and update works as they are edition specific. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:28, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sure I will, but I only delete the parameters that I've checked. Right now I'm focusing on the error lists (d:User:KasparBot/GND_Type_N). --Kolja21 (talk) 04:04, 4 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst: I've corrected now more than 70 GND in Wikidata imported from English Wikisource. Can you delete all GND in English Wikisource? They are duplicates and if other users correct the errors only in Wikidata the wrong numbers might be imported again. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:58, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
There is a bot planned to go through and push the relevant missing detail to WD, and to empty the templates to shell. That should manage to exclude them, though I will check with bot operator. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:17, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst: Thanks! You can send him this usage note for further explanation. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:21, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Current score

Ca. 80 percent of Wikidata errors are imported from English Wikisource.

Other example of adding IDs by guessing:

Better guess but still unlikely: VIAF:38948367: Bryant, Margaret M., 1900-

redirects

[edit]

Wikisource encourages the creation of redirects, especially for commons errors to the actual page that enWS has. We do this to avoid the creation of the "error" pages, or duplicate pages. I am not certain what problems that you are seeing with such pages as these redirects should not have direct WD page links. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: The problem was not the redirect but the presumed typing error in Author:Frederic Amadeus Malleson. "Frederick" is written with "ck", see VIAF:38150050. Author:Frederic Amadeus Malleson should be moved to Author:Frederick Amadeus Malleson. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:51, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
In such situations, we usually correct the name and move the page to the correct spelling. I have done this. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:57, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Of course I have corrected the name and applyed for a move, but both edits have been undone by Prosody. (I can't overright a redirect with more than one edit.) --Kolja21 (talk) 16:04, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Because it should be at Frederic, there is no typing error, and I have moved it back. VIAF is wrong. Please see the author's talk page. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:35, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
