Encyclopedia of Mormonism references and other topics

One thing I did do some weeks, or months ago now, I forget, was go through the Encyclopedia of Mormonism and compiled a list of all the sources in the individual article bibliographies there which seemed to fall in the public domain now. I did not however specifically add any personal documents, just published ones. Any documents you might have which are included in those bibliographies might be particularly useful. Also, I suppose, for transcription help here, if you wanted to, you might leave a message at wikipedia:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement and/or wikipedia:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity/Noticeboard and let them know what you are doing and, maybe, ask any of the editors who might be interested in doing so to help transcribe documents. Particularly any documents you might have which are, in some way, "historical" documents referred to in either encyclopedias or similar works, or even in non-fiction works in general relating to the LDS and/or the time period involved, might be particularly useful.

I am generally a bit more active over at wikipedia than here myself, so if you were to seek to contact me personally for whatever reason you might get quicker response there than here. Thanks for the information! I think the Wikiproject Latter Day Saint Movement is currently not very active, but I'm glad to know that there might be some interest in historical documents. The Mormon Texts Project has been working on getting some books on Project Gutenberg and I'm looking into how easy/difficult it would be to get some of their stuff and other stuff onto Wikisource. I've gone through three different reference sources of a roughly encyclopedia/dictionary nature and put together, one paper, material on the articles in them and their sources. I did note in more than one of them that they referred to some old county history from the 1880s as a source for the w:Haun's Mill Massacre, and another Ohio county history for articles relating to the Ohio era. It will take me a few days to go through transferring all the date to wikipedia, possibly even well into next week, but it might indicate a few other items one might not necessarily quickly think of in this context which might be useful. I probably won't have everything ready until next week at the earliest, unfortunately. John Carter (talk) 00:24, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Awesome! I can probably put in a scan request for a few things to our digitization crew once you have the source list, although it might take a while on my end too. Index talk page question

You asked about the text layers. Djvu and pdf files with text layers should have the text layers available when you click on the redlink. Some files don't have text layers, so need to have pages OCR'd, and on a rare occasion the text layer is not immediately available so we need to Help:purge the page to shake it loose. Generally the better place for questions is WS:S as we all watch it, whereas comments on talk pages may sneak past our view unless we are wanting the recent changes feed. You can always prod one of the more active users, we generally don't bite around here. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:39, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks billinghurst. I didn't think anyone would notice a talk page discussion that I erased! I did find that the OCR was somehow already loaded with the Dijvu file--or does Wikisource OCR it? I'm still not sure how the check pages procedure works, but I'll figure it out eventually. I did ask a question on the scriptorium earlier--I didn't realize that the Index URL was substantially different from the File one. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 16:41, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

The djvu file has a text layer and an image layer, which by clicking on the link we take the text layer from the file and puts it into our Page: namespace. Probably the best central page that has information is Help:Proofread. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:59, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
