[edit]

I am sure that the contributors to Wikisource believe that (like Google) they have made a monumental contribution to the preservation of literature. And for many of the editions of contribution they have. However, for the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica they have made it easier to search on-line, but impossible to download. So goes technology I suppose. I am just not certain at all if technology through its digital availability and its impact on the costs and expense of human civilization may in fact be an adverse contribution rather than a progressive one. Certainly the concept of lowering costs through competition hadn't been thought through prior to its modern implementation since its superficial adoption during the Enlightenment. Maybe next time, global planners will spend another half hour or so, in the future when making decisions of Earthly impact. But then again, what are the odds?
