[edit]Renamed subpages of "Folk Tales from Tibet (1906)"
[edit]Hi. The local style is to avoid names as roman numerals and simple for subpages of works. As the work Folk Tales from Tibet (1906) is only partially transcluded I have done some updates. Whilst we could have called these Story 1 ... Story nn, it actually makes more sense to call these by their titles as they are distinct and meaningful. This also flows well into putting the individual stories into Wikidata items. Also note that I used relative linking rather than hard links in the main namespace. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:45, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hello! Thank you for the changes and the explanation! They make sense! Sorry it was not clear to me when I switched to numerical page names. I am not clear as to relative linking though. BR, Tar-ba-gan (talk) 10:26, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi again, I have moved some subpages of transcluded works to add "Chapter" to the subpage name, rather than just nude numbers, and updated the related Page: ns. Also I have added relative links per this edit. There is more information at Wikisource:Style guide#Wikilinks or some more general text at https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/absolute-vs-relative-pathslinks/ which shows what the software would actually do. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Got it, thank you! I used to do all the things above (titles of stories as page names and relative linking), and then I forgot (and I never thought those were important anyway). Thanks a lot for caring to explain everything so clearly. BR, --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 00:15, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
On the primary page, the links to the list of illustrations are broken. --EncycloPetey (talk) 16:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

You're welcome. Also, thank you for all the work you've been doing over the past month to enrich Wikisource. --EncycloPetey (talk) 21:45, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment! I find that my mode of work is not great, and I am missing tools to involve more users in collaboration over the mammoth amount of books that I have uploaded and can never finish, so I guess I have to ask for your advice on that. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 21:49, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to tell you there will always be more you want done than you can do yourself. I have the same problem myself, and I think any good contributor will always see the potential of works yet to be done. You can occasionally nominate books for PotM, if they are suitable.
- Another thing I have done (which I learned from another contributor here) is to maintain a list of works I'd like to see done on my User page. I have had people start working on items from that list after they saw me editing, and it led to a work being done that I did not have the time to do. Many new users are looking for works that are set up and ready to start proofreading, and some are excited to find a list of works that could use their attention. This is why my User page has such a long list of Index pages: I have no expectation that I will do them all myself, but list them anyway in case a contributor finds the work an appealing task. --EncycloPetey (talk) 22:05, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

I noticed something odd when looking at the contents page of Jewish Fairy Book (Gerald Friedlander). At the left side it has a link to the source page 'iv'. But that page has nothing, rather it is the next page 'v' that starts the contents.
The main space page has
- <pages index="Jewish Fairy Book (Gerald Friedlander).djvu" from="9" to="14" />
would that be better done as
- <pages index="Jewish Fairy Book (Gerald Friedlander).djvu" from="9" to="11" />
- <pages index="Jewish Fairy Book (Gerald Friedlander).djvu" from="13" to="14" />
by dropping the useless page /12 ? Is that the right way to say that? Shenme (talk) 22:50, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- Sure! I had not noticed! Thanks! Feel free to do it if you think it matters! --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 15:03, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
Very last page missing from Jewish Fairy Book (Gerald Friedlander)

Letters of Queen Victoria
[edit]Would be reasonable to upload the other 2 volumes as well:- https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Victoria%2C++Arthur+Christopher+Benson%22&sort=-date
As I am thinking you wanted to do the whole set? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:55, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes thanks for the links! I just feel bad about all the unfinished stuff though. So for about a month I was just going to concentrate on volume 3 and the letters that deals with Nicholas I of Russia first. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 19:50, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- Can you please help with the page list for Volume 3? You do it beautifully and much better than myself. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 10:04, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- And yes, I am planning to add other volumes. Please have a look at Index:The Letters Of Queen Victoria Vol. 2, 1907.djvu. BR, --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 14:49, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Your subpage nomenclature
[edit]Hi. I am wondering why you would call a subpage Chinese Fables and Folk Stories/1 rather than Chinese Fables and Folk Stories/How the Moon became Beautiful when it is a discrete and separate part of the work. It doesn't really reflect the work, and it is more your interpretation. We don't do it elsewhere and I cannot see that our guidance on nomenclature aligns with this.
If we were talking a novel with its chapters, sure, then we use Chapter 1 ... Chapter n, however, they are not individually notable and discrete. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:12, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello! Yes I remember your brilliant explanation why it should be so -- individual tale names are the best. Unfortunately I had made that numbering way long time ago and had not had a chance to use your explanation before all the tales were finished. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 22:16, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense. I will admit to not checking the dates. Thanks for the reply. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:04, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- Just to let you know that I have been finding invisible/unprintable characters in through the section and prev/next names. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:35, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the notice. I saw that you had taken quite some effort and improved the tales' nomenclature. Sorry for giving you the trouble.

- I looked through diffs of a number of your your edits and saw nothing so I do not understand... Do you mean Chinese characters? They all show alright on my PC, but I might ask someone who had been helping me with them to express a qualified opinion whether it is a good idea to change them into jpegs.
- If those symbols you are writing about, are supposed to be Latin chars then they might come from a Chinese char set. I might have done some work using a random Chinese computer at a school there. Does not look like it is going to happen again any time soon. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 18:03, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi. No fuss, was mentioning if FYI, nothing more.
Some sort of null or otherwise non-printable character(s), only truly noticeable when trying to create links from the text in the header section names. They will be hard to see in diffs, as they are non-visible. I think that some were U+FEFF, though really just know that I was deleting something, I didn't explore what it was exactly at the time.
https://www.soscisurvey.de/tools/view-chars.php is a site where you can paste text to test if it has such characters. An example of the some text that has something is
[[../10|A Boy Who Would Not Tell a Lie]]
from diff. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:33, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

People categories are out of scope
[edit]I see that you created Category:Nicholas I of Russia. There was a consensus a year or so ago that person-based categories should be speedy deleted as these should either be author ns or portal ns curated pages. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:29, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- OK thanks for telling, I did not know that. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 11:51, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Nat Geo articles set to four levels
[edit]Hi. It looks that National Geographic articles are set to four levels, including issue number, rather than three levels. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:37, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, I am not certain who set up the more complex variations of header display for the articles, however, we have look to set a standard header, not introduce formatting, etc. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:48, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Also see Template:National Geographic Magazine link for linking template. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:41, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for telling me! I actually copied that header from an existing NGM article transclusion made by someone else. I did add a bit of font formatting, this is true. I am ready to make necessary changes. Not sure where to start though.
- Also see Template:National Geographic Magazine link for linking template. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:41, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Four levels seem to make sense, especially because some item titles are the same in every issue. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 06:25, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Just noticed how neatly you changed everything. Thanks a lot! I also appreciate it that you preserved the Roman numerals in headers. --Tar-ba-gan (talk) 07:14, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Keep redirect
[edit]Hi. I'm tidying up a mess I'm making while finishing an index, and note you had something to do with the renaming at least; I'm fine with the way it was and think it would be helpful as I work on very similar titles to have some distinction there [@Xover:, pardon ping, just a thought on titles]. Anyway, I'm wondering the redirect Russian Fairy Book (N. H. Dole)/Vasilisa the Beauty should be kept or soft redirected? I'm not bothered either way. CYGNIS INSIGNIS 11:12, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hello! I guess (N. H. Dole) should be just scrapped altogether. I was the original uploader of the book. Then it seemed like there was more than one Russian Fairy Book. But for the time being I am fine with just this one and shorter page names. Thanks for your consideration. Sorry for making a mess with renaming everything, sometimes even less consistently. ----Tar-ba-gan (talk) 09:35, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
