Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikisource! Thank you for joining the project. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Please consider putting a brief description of yourself on your user page. If you are already a contributor to another Wikimedia project, such as Wikipedia, please mention this on your user page so we know how to contact you. Also, mention which languages you understand if English is not your first language.

In any case, I hope you enjoy donating your time to grow the Wikisource library that is free for everyone to use! In discussions, please "sign" your comments using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question here (click edit) and place {{helpme}} before your question.

Again, welcome! John Vandenberg (chat) 04:49, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have been comparing Book of Mormon (Plain English Version)/Alma with plainbookofmormon.com/Alma.htm and found a striking resemblance. Is that your work/website, and are you happy to release your work under the {{GFDL}}? John Vandenberg (chat) 05:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} yes plainbookofmormon.com is my project, and I am happy to have it here. unsigned comment by Timbookofmormon (talk) 15:17, 28 January 2008.

That is really cool. You do realise that others will be able to edit your work, and change the wording? You will of course be able to contest undesirable changes, but you will need to at least consider different words proposed by contributors who honestly want to help.

As an example of how it would run, our Bible (Free) project is a collaborative translation. You can read some of their discussions here:

Those contributors work together very well, and I've not seen any bickering, but I want to be sure you are aware that donating it to a collaborative project has its drawbacks as well as its benefits. If there are any truely annoying people, administrators wont be far away to help sort things out, but sometimes well meaning discussions can cause a bit of lost sleep. headers & images

[edit]

All of our pages have a header on them. I have tagged them with {{no header}}, which includes instructions on how to add the header.

You can upload images on our projects using "Special:Upload", however like our texts, your uploads must be licensed as free content. John Vandenberg (chat) 05:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
