Collaboration project

[edit]

This weeks collaboration project is G. W. Bush. Please take the time this week to identify and/or transcribe one important work by, or involving, this very prominent person who is relevant to us all. John Vandenberg (chat) 02:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Great. This will give me incentive to finish adding his radio addresses.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:10, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

two admins awaiting promotion

[edit]

Hi, WS:ADMIN has two more admins that the community has approved. Please promote or discuss with BirgitteSB . John Vandenberg (chat) 22:15, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Username rename

[edit]

Please rename my account User:Cool Cat to User:White Cat. Thanks. -- Cat chi? 12:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have done this and a discussion of the bot flag is on WS:S--BirgitteSB 03:23, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bot flag request for User:Computer

[edit]
  • Bot operator: User:White Cat (Commons:User:White Cat) - En-N, Tr-4, Ja-1
  • List of botflags on other projects: Bot has a flag on wikimedia (meta, commons) wikipedia (ar, az, de, en, es, et, fr, is, ja, ku, nn, no, ru, sr, tr, uz, simple...) (See: m:User:White Cat#Bots)
  • Purpose: Interwiki linking, double redirect fixing, commons delinking (for cases where commonsdelinker fails)

Request for CU rights

[edit]

As you were well supported in your prior request and only failed due to the community size at the time, I would love to see you join in and request CU rights here at WS:ADMIN, if you are still interested. John Vandenberg (chat) 04:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, I think I will pass on the CU rights. My ability to contribute to WS is sporadic at best, and I would rather not have more than a bureaucrat level of access because of it.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 23:13, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

RFA to decided

re: Special:UncategorizedPages

[edit]

Hi, Pathoschild,

I was wondering if you know why some pages that are subpages are showing up on the UncategorizedPages special page. Many of these pages have header2 but it doesn't seem to be working automatically adding them to Category:Subpages.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 18:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Zhaladshar. This should be fixed now. The template only added the category if the immediate parent page existed (to avoid incorrectly categorizing top pages with slashes in their names, like "The 1/2-baked apple"). I rewrote the code so it should work as long as the parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent page exists (which should cover every subpage). —{admin} Pathoschild 22:23:53, 04 April 2008 (UTC)
That's great. Thanks a lot.  :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 17:58, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

please restore Abraham Lincoln Brigade

[edit]

Myself and an anon were working on this when you deleted it. On my side, I was actively trying to determine its copyright status (see Author:Arthur Harold Landis) and I would appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt. At the very least I would expect a note to tell me what has happened.

The page does give a rationale for why it meets our published and copyright policy, but I have no problems with you listing in on WS:COPYVIO or WS:PD if you feel that it is appropriate. John Vandenberg (chat) 06:35, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

As you haven't responded in half an hour, I am restoring this. If it isnt suitable here, there is a good chance it is suitable for a different project. John Vandenberg (chat) 07:10, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry. I figured since the last comment on the talk page was in November of 2007 that it had been given up on. I noticed it was in the contributions list of an IP account that contributed a lot of irrelevant pages to WS. However, this looked just like a bunch of reference material we killed a while ago, so I just assumed I could delete it by CSD.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Need to review General Assembly resolution 2758

[edit]

You deletetd that document. Could you please explain with which document this should be a doublette? --213.155.231.26 13:39, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, everything on the page kept saying UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, indicating that the page was a UN GA resolution. However, upon examination, it is not Resolution 2758 (the page needs to be seriously updated so all its bibliographic information is correct), so I've restored it.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're right. Since I am an WPn rather I'll have to look up how to fix that. Should be done later this week. --213.155.231.26 14:47, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Usurpation

[edit]

Hallo! I'm Xenus at the swedish wikipedia. Can you please rename my account to Xenus? I already have that name in other wikimedia projects. Xenus-sv 09:38, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I tried, but I got this message upon renaming "Xenus-sv" to "Xenus":
Cannot rename user Xenus as this username is reserved for a global account.
I think you'll just have to let the actual MediaWiki software do the usurpation for you.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:22, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Renaming

[edit]

Could you rename my account to User:Shii in preparation for a global account? Thanks much... Ashibaka 23:59, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. Sorry for the delay.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Treaty of San Ildefonso

[edit]

Hi, you uploaded the Treaty of San Ildefonso ages ago. But unfortunately you neither gave a source, nor did you mention who translated the treaty into English, as the language of origin was of course French. The original French text is of course in the public domain, the English translation looks a bit like babelfish, but if it was translated recently it is copyrighted. Please take a look at the matter. --H-stt 17:26, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

[edit]

For fixing my mistake. ;-) FloNight 17:55, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome. :) —Zhaladshar (Talk) 19:23, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

[edit]

I should be done proofreading them shortly. I don't know if you believe my proofreading is enough, which is why I left the textquality at 75%. Let me know if you want me to update it to 100%. Psychless 20:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. I'll go ahead and update the quality then. Psychless 20:52, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template deletion

[edit]

I've filed a request for template deletion at this page. Wikisource:Proposed_deletions#Deletion_of_Templates. I know what an Admin does but what does a bureaucrat do ? Kathleen.wright5 22:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate works

[edit]

I have just finished wikifying Proofs of Jesus Christ by Author:Blaise Pascal, only to now find that is also under Pensees as Pensees/XII, XII:Proofs of Jesus Christ. Should I take the former work to Articles for Deletion? Kathleen.wright5 09:00, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

OCR

[edit]

I notice that you are using the OCR button for "Myth, Ritual, and Religion". This is not necessary, as proofread text can be found at from Project Gutenberg, and we now have bots which can upload the djvu text layer; the OCR bot is only needed for images formats that dont have a text layer, and for works which PG hasnt released a proofread version. We are trying to track all of these projects on WS:TP. HTH, John Vandenberg (chat) 14:10, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dang it, I didn't even think to check PG. I figured it would be so obscure that they wouldn't have ever transcribed it.  :( What do you have to do to get bots to upload the text layer to Djvu? I remember the discussion, but I had no idea that was ever implemented. I think that's kind of cool.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:15, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can either do it yourself (the bot "djvutext.py" has been checked in), or you can list the index page on WS:TP and someone else will do it. John Vandenberg (chat) 09:09, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please send me the text of John L. Spivak

[edit]

I was the author who added the text of John L. Spivak, which you deleted. Could you please e-mail me my contribution?

I notice that Wikisource does not have a page like wikipedia:

Ancient Jewish work in Korean

[edit]

What do I do about this work? Dead Sea scrolls/11Q13. I've formatted it as best I can, but most most of it is in Korean for some strange reason. The rest of this work has been translated into English. Kathleen.wright5 02:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Regex menu framework updated

[edit]

Hello Zhaladshar. Jayvdb and I moved the regex menu framework (which you're using) to a gadget, which makes it much easier to use and update. You can now check a box in your preferences to enable it, and only define custom tools in your javascript file. To migrate to the gadget version, please following these steps:

  1. go to Special:Preferences, and click the 'Gadgets' tab on the far right;
  2. check the box beside 'Add a sidebar menu of user-defined regex tools';
  3. respond here (so I can update your JavaScript file).

Thanks. —{admin} Pathoschild 06:33:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

That's very cool! I was going to suggest this tool be migrated to a gadget. I've enabled it on my user preferences now.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 13:26, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I migrated your JavaScript. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 18:43:16, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
