2 Maccabees is a book of the Septuagint, the Greek Jewish Scriptures. It is accepted as canonical by Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox Christians, but rejected by Protestants and Jews. The author is unknown, but claims that the work is an abridgment of a 5-volume work by Jason of Cyrene. It was probably written around ~150 BCE–70 BCE.
