Two Given Suspended Sentences

Two men drew suspended sentences in Jersey City municipal court on charges filed over the weekend. Patrick Rooney, 49, of 121 Clendenny Ave., Jersey City, was given a 60-day suspended sentence by Magistrate Louis Brenner on a charge filed by his wife, Bridgid. She said he was intoxicated and fell asleep at home, allowing some food that was cooking to burn. Arthur Freudenberg, 33, of 138 Cottage St., a chauffeur, was charged by Dominick Kuszkowski of 133 Mercer St., a bartender in a tavern at 313 Grove St., Jersey City, with having started a fight in the tavern. He said he had put up his hands in self defense when a girl companion started to hit him. He said other patrons misinterpreted the gesture as an attempt to strike the girl, and the fight followed. Brenner gave him a suspended 90-day sentence.
