FIRST STALL.

William Haynes, S.T.B., provost of Oriel, was the first in this stall after tin- new foundation by king Henry VIII., anno 1546. He died 8th July 1550, and was buried in the cathedral.

Petes Maetyb was collated 24th Oct. 1550, and in- stalled 20th Jan. 1 530 -') 1 . He quitted it in the he- ginning of queen Mary's reign.

Richard Bbuebn was put in his place in Hilary term 1553. He died about the latter end of April 1565, and was buried in St. George's chapel, Windsor, of which he was a canon.

Rogeb Mabbeck, A.M., provost of Oriel collide, suc- ceeded in 1565, held it about two years, and then voluntarily resigned it. Ob. circa July 1605, and seems to have been buried in the church of St. Giles', Cripplegate, London.
