16 WINCHESTER. 1486-7^'^. Ho had the custody of the temporalities granted to him 8th Feb/'-*, and plenary restitution of them made to him as bishop 2nd April*. He died 22nd Sept. 1492, and was buried in Winchester ca- thedral ^. 1493 Thomas Langton, bishop of Salisbury , was translated 8 Hen. VII. to this SCO by papal provision: he received the spi- ritualities 24th June 1493^, ^"^ ^^^ temporalities on the 27 th of the same month"; the custody of the tem- poralities had, however, been previously granted to him 1 2th Jan., and again 16th Feb.^^ He was elected to Canterbury 22nd Jan. 1500- 1 ; but he died on the 27th of that month, before the translation could be per- fected, and was interred in his own cathedral^. His will is dated 25th Jan. 1500—1, and was proved 20th May 1 50 1. 1501 Richard Fox, bishop of Durham^ was translated to this i6Ht'nVll. see, the temporalities whereof were restored to him 17th Oct. i5oi7< He died 14th Sept. 1528, and was buried in his own cathedral. 1529 Thomas Wolsey, arcA^/^/fo/; of YorK, had leave to hold 20 u. VIII. this see in commcndam"', the temporalities whereof were delivered to him 6th April 1529"-, and he was enthroned by proxy on the i ith of the same month. He died 29th Nov. 1530, and was buried at Lei- cester. T53 1 Stephen Gaudiner, LL.D., chief secretary of state^ had 23 II. VIII. the temporalities restored to him 5th Dec. 1531"^ and was consecrated the same day"^. In 1.550 ho was deprived" '. but restored in 1553. He held the great ■- Refjr. Morton. '^^ Reg.
