BISHOPS. 287 1249 Walter de Kirkham, deanofYork^ 21st April 1249: 33 H. III. his Majesty withheld his assent till 27th Sept.^o, and he was not consecrated before 5th Dec. He died at Hoveden 9th Aug. 1 260 ^1, and was buried in Durham cathedral'^-. The license to elect a bishop vice Walter de Kirkham was granted 28th Aug. 1260-^^; in pur- suance of which, 1260 Robert ^tich:ei.i., prior 0/ Finchale, was elected 30th 45 H. III. Sept. 1 260 3^, and obtained the royal assent 25th Oct.3^ ; he was confirmed by the archbishop 23rd Nov. The temporalities were restored to him 28th Dec.'^^, and he was consecrated 13th Feb. following. He died 4th Aug. 1274-^". Upon the death of bishop Stichell, the chapter of Durham petitioned his Ma- jesty to issue his royal license for the election of a prelate in the room of Robert Stichell ; and having obtained it, they elected 24th Sept. 1274^^ 1274 Robert de Insula, j^Hor of Finchale ; the King as- 2Edw. I. sented to his election 15th Oct. in that year^^, and made restitution of the temporalities to him 8th Nov.^" He was confirmed by the archbishop 31st Oct., and consecrated 9th Dec. following '^ His death took place 7 th June 1283^-, and he was buried '-'^ Pat. 33 Hen.
