The arms of this college are thus blazoned : Gules, in a border sable, entoire of stars, or ; and on a can- ton ermine, a lion rampant, of the second, an annulet for difference. The stars in border are not excentrical. JESUS COLLEGE. Queen Elizabeth has the honour of being foundress of this college, though it was built and endowed mostly at the charge of Hugh Ap Rice or Price, doctor of the canon law, and treasurer of the church of St. David's. Charter of foundation dated 27th June 1571^. PRINCIPALS. David Lewes, LL.D., was nominated in the founda- tion charter in 1571. He resigned in the year follow- ing. Griffith or Griffin Lloyd, Jur. Civ. Bac, succeeded in 1572. Francis Be vans, LL.D., succeeded in 1586. John Williams, S.T.P., was elected 17th May 1602. He became dean of Bangor, died 4th Sept. 16 13, and was buried in St. Michael's church, Oxon. Griffith 1*owell, M.A., succeeded 8th Sept. 1613.
