CAPUT XI
Ðys [godspel] sceal on frȳgedæg on mydfæstenes wucan.
1. Witodlīce sum sēoc man wæs genemned Lazarus, of Bethania, of Marian ceastre and of Martham his swustra.
2. Hit was sēo Maria þe smyrede Drihten mid þǣre sealfe, and drīgde his fēt mid hyre loccon; Lazarus hyre brōðor wæs geyfled.
3. His swustra sendon tō him and cwǣdon, Drihten, nū is sēoc sē ðe þū lufast.
4. Đā sē Hǣlend þæt gehȳrde, þā cwæð hē tō him, Nys þēos untrumnys nā for dēaðe, ac for Godes wuldre, þæt Godes Sunu sī gewuldrod þurh hyne.
5. Sōðlīce sē Hælend lufode Martham, and hyre swustor Mariam, and Lazarum hyra brōðor.
6. Witodlīce hē was twēgen dagas on ðǣre sylfan stōwe, þā hē gehȳrde þǣt hē sēoc wæs.
7. Æfter þisson hē cwæð tō his leorningcnihton, Uton faran eft tō Iudea lande.
8. His leorningcnihtas cwǣdon tō him, Lārēow, nū þā Iudeas sōhton ðē þæt hig woldon þē hǣnan; and wylt þū eft faran ðyder?
