CAPUT XIII

Ðys [godspel] gebyrað on þunresdæg ǣr ēastron.

1. Ǣr þām ēsterfrēolsdæge, sē Hǣlend wiste þæt his tīd cōm þæt hē wolde gewītan of þyson middanearde tō his Fæder, þā hē lufode his leorningcnihtas þe wǣron on middanearde, on ende hē hig lufode.[1]

2. And þā Drihtnes þēnung wæs gemacud, þā fōr sē dēofol on Iudas heortan Scariothes þæt hē hine belǣwde.[2]

3. Hē wiste þæt Fæder sealde ealle þing on his handa, and þæt hē cōm of Gode, and cymð tō Gode;[3]

4. hē ārās fram his þēnunge, and lēde his rēaf, and nam līnen hrægel and begyrde hyne.[4]

5. Æfter þām hē dyde water on fæt, and þwōh his leorningcnihta fēt, and drīgde hig mid þǣre linwāde þe hē wæs mid begyrd.[5]

6. Đā cōm hē tō Simone Petre. And Petrus cwæð tō him, Drihten, scealt þū ðwēan mīne fēt?
