He was professor of chemistry at Kutgers college in 1877-87; and in 1893-98 was professor of chemistry in Brooklyn polytechnic institute; and in 1898-1907 was chief chemist to the Pegamoid industries of the United States. He was the author of Chemical Lecture Notes; and Organic Chemistry, from the German of Pinner. He died Dec. 30, 1907,. in Brooklyn, N.Y. is assistant librarian in that institution. Austin, Hurieosco, soldier, lawyer, statesman, was born Feb. 16, 1843, in Mobile, Ala.,, which has always been his place of residence. He graduated from the university of Alabama and attained success as an eminent lawyer. During the civil war he served as a captain in the confederate army. He has been a member of. the Alabama state senate.
