Bennett, Charles Washington, lawyer, jurist, was born Oct. 14, 1833, in Duansburg, N. Y. He received an academic education; and in 1857 he graduated from the Albany law school. He was admitted to the Albany bar, but moved west, and in 1857-69 practiced his profession in Racine county. Wis. In 1869-71 he practiced in Chicago, 111.; and in 1871-1906 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He

numerous positions of trust and honor; and was an eminent lawyer and jurist. He died in 1906 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bennett, Charles Wesley, clergyman, authwas born July 18, 1828, in Bast Bethany, N. Y. In 1871, he became professor of history and logic in Syracuse university. He was the author of National Education in Italy, France, Germany, England, and Wales, Popularly Considered and Christian Art and Archaeology of the First Six Centuries. Bennett, Darwin Herman, merchant, bankpublic official, was born May 18, 1853, in Bridport, Vt. He received the rudiments of his education in the Bridport common schools; and attended private schools in Vermont and Massachusetts. Since 1875 he has been a dealer in general merchandise at Bridport, Vt.; and most of the time since 1875 has been postmaster; and for the past twenty years treasurer of the town. Since 1894 he has been a director of the national bank of Middlebury, Vt.

Bennett, De Robique Mortimer, author, was born Dec. 23, 1818, in Springfield, N.Y. He ^¥as a noted freethinker who was several times arrested and imprisoned on account of his extreme views. He was the author of the World's Reformers; Champions of the Church; From Behind the Bars; An Infidel Abroad; and A Truth Seeker Around the World. He died Dee. 6, 1883, in New York City.

Bennett, Frank Marion, naval officer, author, was born May 7, 1857 in Marcellus, Mich. In 1879 he graduated from the United States naval academy; and in 1881 was promoted assistant engineer. In 1899 he attained the rank of lieutenant; in 1901 beis now executive officer of the United States steamship Franklin. He is the author of The Steam Navy of the United States; and The Monitor and the Navy Under Steam.

In 1875 he was appointed an associate justice of the supreme court of the territory of Dakota; and resigned in 1878. In 1879-81 he was a territorial delegate from Dakota to the forty-sixth congress as a. republican. Bennett, Hendley S., lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born March 7, 1807, in Williamson county, Tenn. He began to practice law in 1830, when he removed to Mississippi, where he held the office of circuit judge for eight years. In 1855-57 he was representative from Mississippi to the thirty-fourth congress as a democrat.
