Brackett, Joshua, physician, philanthropist, was born May 5, 1773, in Greenland, N. H. He was a zealous patriot; a, member of the state committee of safety; and during the revolution was judge of the New Hampshire maritime court. He was a founder of the state medical society; and was its president in 1793-99. He gave it one hundred and forty-three volumes of medical works at its establishment. He bequeathed a legacy to Harvard toward founding a professorship of natural history. He died July 17, 1802, in Portsmouth, N.H.

He served in the civil war in Sheridan's army; and was appointed chief of artillery of the army of the Shenandoah. He has been city solicitor of Portland; and was appointed United States district attorney for Maine in 1894. He is the author of Voyage to Labrador.

Bradbury, Osgood Nathan, physician, surgeon, state senator, author, was born Oct. 28, 1838, in Norway, Maine. During the civil war he was surgeon in the United States army for two years; and for thirteen years was United States examining surgeon for pensions. He served in the Maine state legislature for one year; and for two years was a, member of the Maine state senate. He is the author of History of Forest Lodge.
Bradbury, Theophilus, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Nov. 13, 1739, in Newburyport, Mass. In 1795-99 he was representative from Massachusetts to the fourth and fifth congresses. He was a presidential elector in 1801; and in 1797-1803 was a judge of the supreme court of Massachusetts. He died Sept. 6, 1803, in Massachusetts. Bradbury, William Batchelder, musician, composer, was born Oct. 6, 1816, in York, Maine. In 1840 he began teaching in New York City and Brooklyn. He gained popularity by his free singing-schools and by his concerts, at which the performers, all children, sometimes numbered one thousand.
