Buck, Beaumont Bonaparte, soldier, was born in Mississippi. He entered the United States military academy from Texas as a cadet in 1880; graduated from that institution in 1885; was made second lieutenant in the sixteenth regiment United States infantry. In 1893 he attained the rank of first lieutenant in the nineteenth regiment United States infantry; and the same year was transferred to the sixteenth regiment United States infantry. In 1898 he was major in the second regiment Texas infantry; and the same year was honorably mustered out of the volunteer service. In 1899 he, became captain in the sixteenth infantry. Buck, Carl Darling, educator, author was born Oct. 3, 1866, in Bucksport, Maine. Since 1893 he has been professor of Sanskirt and comparative philology at the university of Chicago. He is the author of Hale -Buck Latin

Buck, Charles Francis, lawyer, orator, congressman, was born Nov. 5, 1841, in Germany. He received his education at the public schools;

For two terms he served as city attorney of New Orleans in 188084; has been a member of the school board, and has held various other public positions of honor in that city. In 1895-97 he served as representative from Louisiana to the forty-fourth congress. He is an able lawyer and brilliant orator a and his oration on the Life and Death of Ja mes A. Garfield received publication in all the leading newspapers of America, and was highly eulogized. His law firm of Buck, Walshe and Buck, of New Orleans, attorneys for many of the largest corporations in the south. Buck, Daniel, lawyer, congressman, was He was one of the earliest settlers in Vermont; and in 1795-97 he was a representative from Vermont to the fourth congress. He died in 1817 in Vermont. Buck, Daniel, lawyer, state senator, jurist, was born Sept. 8, 1829, in Boonville, N.Y. He was a member of the Minnesota house of representatives in 1866; and of the state senate in 1879 and 1881; For five years he was a member of the state normal board and four years was prosecuting attorney of Blue Earth county. In 1894-1900 he was an associate justice of the supreme court of Minnesota. He died in 1905 in Mankato, Minn. Buck, Daniel Azro A., soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born in 1789, in Vermont. He established himself as a lawyer at Chelsea, Vt.; and was for fourteen years a member of the state legislature. He filled the office of state attorney from Orange county for six years; in 1831 he was a presidential elector. In 1833-35 and 1837-39 was a representative from Vermont to the eighteenth and twentieth congresses. He died Dec. 24, 1841, in Washington, D.C. Buck, Dudley, musician, organist, author, was born March 10, 1889, in Hartford, Conn. He is a composer and organist of Brooklyn N.Y. He is the author of Dictionary of Musiborn.

Buck, George Machan, lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 38, 1843, in Skaneateles, N.Y. F'or five years he was circuit court commissioner of Kalamazoo for four years; was prosecuting attorney for four years; was United States commissioner for three years; was judge of the probate court for eight years; and for twelve years was circuit ^'udge for the ninth judicial circuit of Michigan. Buck, Gertrude, educator, author, was bom July 14, 1871, in Kalamazoo, Mich. Since 3 897 she has been an instructor of English at Vassar college. She is the author of A Course in Expository Writing; The Metaphor; and Organic Education. Buck, Gurdon, physician, surgeon, author,

was born May 4. 1807, in New York City. He was one of the oldest hospital surgeons in New York City holding the place of visiting surgeon of the New York hospital in 183777. He wrote much for medical journals and a treatise on Contributions to Reparative Surgery. He died March 6, 1877, in New
