Buell, Marcus Darius, educator, clergyman, author, was born Jan. 1, 1851, in Wayland, N.Y. Since 1884 he has been professor of new testament Greek, and since 1889 dean of the theological faculty of Boston university. He is the author of Studies in The Greek Text of the Gospel of Mark. Buell, Richard Hooker, civil engineer, author, was born Nov. 9, 1843, in Cumberland, Md. He is the author of The Cadet Engineer; Safety Valves; and The Compound Steam Engine and Its Steam Generating Plant. BufSngton, Adelbert Rinaldo, soldier, inventor, was born Nov. 33, 1837, in Wheeling, Va. He attained the rank of brigadier -general in the United States army. He has perfected a magazine fire arm; carriages for light and heavy guns; parts of models of 1884 Springfield rifles, and several mechanical devices. He also introduced the gas-forging furnaces and improved methods at the national armory, of Springfield rifles; and flrst used the nitre and manganese method of bluing parts of small arms. BuflSngton, Eugene Jackson, business president, capitalist, was born March 14, 1863, in Guyandotte, W.Va. In 1884-88 he was treasurer of the American wire and nail eompanj' of Anderson, Ind.; in 1888-69 was secretary and treasurer of the American steel and wire company; and since 1899 has been prsident of the Illinois steel company.
Buffington, Joseph, lawyer, jurist. He was appointed chief Justice of the United States
court in Utah in 1850, and was the first who held that position. Buffington, Joseph, congressman, was born in Pennsylvania. In 1843-47 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the twentyeighth and twentj'-ninth congresses. He died in Pennsylvania.
BufSngton, Joseph, lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 5, 1855, in Kittanning, Pa. Since 1893 he has been United States judge for the western district of Pennsylvania. Buffington, James, mayor, congressman, was born on March 16, 1817, in Fall River, Mass. In 1854-55 he was mayor of Pall River, Mass. In 1855-63 and 1869-75 he was a representative from Masrachusetts to the thirty-fourth, thirty-fifth, thirty-sixth, thirtyseventh, forty-first, forty-second and fortythird congresses as a republican. He was elected to the forty-fourth congress but did not take his seat on account of his death, which occured March 7, 1875, in Fall River.

Buffum, Burt C, agriculturist, scientist, was born April 7, 1868, in South Bend, Ind. He attended the Colorado agricultural college; has been professor of agriculture and horticulture in the university of Wyoming; and vice-director of the experiment station.
He
is now professor of agriculture in the Colorado state agricultural college. -He has made some important discoveries in science; and is quoted as an authority on irrigation. Buffum, Edward Gould, journalist, author, was born about 1830 in Rhode Island. He served on the Pacific side of Mexico ; and at the close of the war returned to California and took an active part in the explorations for gold. He published Six Months in the Gold Mines. He died Oct. 34, 1867, in Paris, France. Buffum, Joseph, lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 33, 1784, in Fitchburg, Mass. He was appointed colonel of Morgan's eleventh regiment Virginia in the revolutionary war. He died June 29, 1833, in Scott county, Ky. Buford, Abraham, soldier, was born about 1820 in Kentucky. Buford, Elizabeth Burgess, educator, musician, founder, was born in April, 1860 in Cornersville, Tenn. She has been identified for a number of years with prominent educational institutions of the south. She is founder and regent of Buford college of Nashville, Tenn. Buford, John, soldier, was born in 1825 in Kentucky. He served in the civil war; was subsequently assigned to the command of the army of the Cumberland, when he was taken sick and died, on the date of the receipt of his commission as major-general. He died Dec. 16, 1863, in Washington, D.C. Buford, Napoleon Bonaparte, soldier, was born .Jan. 13, 1807, in Kentucky. He served in the civil war; and was one of two generals at Beverly Ford in 1863. He received the brevet title of major-general of volunteers.

In 1857-60 he was principal of Fayette seminary of Iowa; was pastor of a church in Chicago in 1861-63; was president of the Northwestern female college at Evanston in 1865-68; was president of the Cincinnati Wesleyan college in 1868-75; and afterward was president of Alleghany college at Meadville, Pa. Bugg, Lelia Hardin, litterateur, author was born in Ironton, Mo. She is the author ot The Correct Thing for Catholics; a Lady; and The Prodigal's Daughter.
