Darling, John Augustus, soldier, musical composer, was born June 7, 1835, in Bucksport, Maine. He graduated from the state military academy of Pennsylvania. In 1861 he was commissioned second lieutenant in the second United States artillery; became first lieutenant, captain and major; and received two brevets for gallant conduct in the civil war. After the civil war he served in the artillery until he was retired at his own request in 1897 as major. Under the pen name of August Mignon he has published in
lieutenant in the last war with England. In 1817-19 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the fifteenth congress. In 183139 he was president judge of the county court. He died April 37, 1839, in Pennsylva-

Darling, Mason C, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born May IS, 1801, in Bellingham, Mass. 'He aided in establishing the towns of Sheboygan and Fond du Lac, Wis. He has been judge of probate; mayor of Fond du Lac; and a member for several years of the territorial legislature. In 184749 he was a representative from Wisconsin to the thirtieth congress.
