Colgrove, Silas, soldier, was borh in New York. In 1861 he became captain in the eighth regiment Indiana volunteer infantry; and in 1864 was brevetted brigadier-general Golhoun, Edmund Ross, naval officer, was born May 6, 1821, in Pennsylvania. In 1863 he commanded the steamer Ladona, and afterward the monitor Weehawken. He was commandant at Mare Island navy-yard in
gist in 1881-85. In 1870-79 he published annually his reports as assistant geologist; and as geologist in 1881-84; and for the years 1879-80 reports of the bureau of statistics and geology. He died in 1899, in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was a member of the state legislature; and in 1833-41 was judge of the supreme court of Vermont. In 1843-49 he was a representative from Vermont to the twenty-eighth, twenty-ninth and thirtieth congresses. In 1849-50 he was postmastergeneral in the cabinet of President Taylor; and was soon afterward appointed on the supreme bench of his state, which office he held until 18.J4. In 1855-65 he was United States senator. He died Nov. 8, 1865, in Woodstock, Vt. CoUamore, Davis, merchant, manufacturer, was born Oct. 7, 1830, in Scituate, Mass. In 1688 he was made governor with the rank of landgrave, and endowed with forty-elghv thousand acres of land.
