Be it therefore declared and ena<5led by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and v>rith the Advice KisMajtrtymay and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in Parhament affembled, and by iffueou' C;m- the Authority of the fame, That the King's moft Excellent Majefty, his Heirs and Succefibrs, ftiall and '^^^^^^ITo^aSi may from Time to Time, as Occafion fliall require, ilTue forth feveral Commiflions of Lieutenancy to Pe"rfons a" h"'^ fuch Perfons as his Majefty, his Heirs and SuccelTors, ftiall think fit to be his Majefty's Lieutenants for (hall think fit the fevera! and refpedlive Counties, Cities and Places of England and Dominion of Wales, and Town of coumier cu i Berwick iy^ov. Ttveed; (2) which Lieutenants fhall have full Power and Authority to call together all fuch ties, &c.' I Perfons at fuch Times, and to arm and array them in fuch Manner, as is hereafter expreffed and declared, The Power of ' and to form them into Companies, Troops and Regiments, and in Cafe of Infurreflion, Rebellion or n'l.n^j"'^'^""' ilnvafion, them to lead, conduct and employ, or caufe to beled, conduced and employed, as well within Explained by j the faid feveral Counties, Cities and Places for which they fliall be Commiflioned refpedtively, as alfo into 15 Car, i.e. 4. ■ I any other the Counties and Places aforefaid, for fupprefling of all fuch Infurredrions and Rebellions, and repelling of Invafions, as may happen to be, according as they ftiall from Time to Time receive Diredtions I from his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflbrs ; (3) and that the faid refpeftive Lieutenants Ihall have full ! Power and Authority from Time to Time to conftitute, appoint and give Commiflions to fuch Perfons as they fhall think fit to be Colonels, Majors, Captains and other Commifiion-Oflicers, of the faid Perfons fo to be armed, arrayed and weaponed, and to prefent to his A4ajefty, liis Heirs and Succeflbrs, the Names of fuch Perfon and Perfons as they fliall think fit to'be Deputy-Lieutenants, and upon his Majefty's Ap- T'le Depufy probation of them fhall give them Deputations accordingly ; (4) always underftood. That his Majefty, b^namld to'" his Heirs and Succeflbrs have Power and Authority to diredt and order otherwife, and accordingly at his and a proved of and their Pleafure may appoint and commiflionate or difplace fuch Officers ; any Thing in this Adi to the ^y> his Majefty. contrary notwithftanding : (j) And that the faid Lieutenants refpedtively, and in their Abfence out of the xhe Power of Precindts and Limits of their refpedtive Lieutenancies, or otlierwife by their Diredtions, the faid Deputy- the Deputy Lieutenants, during their faid refpedtive Deputations, or any two or more of them, Ihall have Power from Lieutenants. Time to Time to train, exercife and put in Readinels, and alfo to lead and conduct the Perfons fo to be armed, arrayed and weaponed, by the Diredtions, and to the Intents and Purpofes as is hereafter exprefled and declared. And for the providing Horfe and Arms and Furniture thereunto belonging, for the Arming and The Manner of Weaponing the Perfons aforefaid, and alfo for the Defraying and Paying the neceffary Charges thereunto charging and - ■ belonging in Manner as hereafter followeth ; (2) Be it further enadted. That the faid refpedtive Lieute- ^J^'^^^^JJJfs &s.°' nants within the feveral Counties, Cities and Places, for which they are nominated refpedtively, and their Deputies, or the major Part of fuch Lieutenants and Deputy-Lieutenants then prefent, or in the Abfence of the Lieutenant or Lieutenants, the major Part of the Deputy-Lieutenants then prefent, which major Part Ihall be three at the leaft, have hereby full Power and Authority to charge any Perfon with Horfe, Horfe- man and Arms, or with P'oot-Soldier and Arms, in the fame County, Shire, City, Borough or Town Corporate where his, her or their Eftates lie, having refpedt unto and not exceeding the Limitations and Proportions hereafter mentioned ; (that is to) (3 ) No Perfon ihall be charged with finding a Horfe, Horfe- man and Arms, unlefs fuch Perfon or Perfons have a Revenue of five hundred Pounds by the Year in Pof- felTion, or have an Eftate of fixthoufand Pounds in Goods or Money, befides the Furniture of his or their' Houfes, and fo proportiona'oly for a greater Eftate in Lands in Poflefiion, or Goods, as the refpedtive Lieutenants and their Deputies as aforefaid, in their Difcretions ftial! fee Caufe and think reafonable; (4} and they are not to charge any Perfon with finding a Foot-Soldier and Arms, that hath not a yearly Re- venue of fifty Pounds inPofleilion, or a perfonal Eftate of fix hundred Pounds m Goods or Monies, (other than the Stock upon the Ground) and after the aforefaid Rate proportionably for a greater or lefler Re- venue or Eftate : ( 5 ) Nor fl:all they charge any Perfon with the finding both of Horfe and Foot in the fame County. IV. Provided, That no Perfon chargeable by this Adl, to find an Horfe and Horfeman with Arms or to No Perfon be contributory towards finding an Horfe and Horfeman with Arms, fhall for the fame Eftate be chargeable charged with or towards finding a Foot-Soldier with Arms or contributory thereunto 1(2) And it fhall be lawful to and for the H^r^f may be refpe-.^tive Lieutenants and Deputies or any three or more of them as aforefaid, to impofe the finding and charged aho to- providing of Horfe, Horfeman and Arms as aforefaid, by joining two or three or more Perfons togetlier in wards Foot- the Charge, as to their Judgment fliall appear moft conducible to the Service of this kingdom. _ ■'^"• V.
