In the which the faids Commiflioners confidering evidentlie the greateft diverfitie of meafures and weights, from the meafures and weights now eftablifhed , to be for the moft part: So that thefe fyveShyres being brought to the conformitieaforefaid, the reft of the Shyres within this Kingdome may be eafilie reduced to the fame , conforme to this prefent Ad . THEREFORE the faids Commiflioners , Finds it meet and expedient , and by thefe prefents Statuts, Decernes , and Ordains , That the Shirref of everie one of the .forefaids fyve fhyre s of Lanerk , Wigtoun , Ttrumfreis , Roxburgh , and Bervik ; or their Deputes mall warne the Baillies of Regalities within the fame Shyres , and Stewarts of Stewartries thereof, if any bee , Juftices of Peace , and Magiftrates of Burrowes I To conveen ilk one of them within the heade Burgh of the fame Shyre wherein they are Magiftrates , within twentie dayes alter the Councils pleafure fhall be fignified to them thereanent : and there not onlie to receave and embrace the faids meafures and weights, from the Proved and Baillies olLinlithgou and Lanerkxo whom the keeping thereof is concredit in maner forefaid , and which are eftablifhed by this prefent Act : But alfo to take try A & cognition of the difference betwixt the faids old meafures & weights, and the meafures & weights now eftablifhed. And to appoint, conclude and determine , ilk one of them within their own bounds, what proportiondefle or more fhall be given and receaved in tyme comming, for the conforming of their Fermes and J dueties addetted by former infeoftments, foundations, Tacks, contracts , bands and Securities , to the forefaids Meafures and Weights now eftablifhed, andtoinfertthefamein their Regifters and Court books ; To re- maine with them for decifioun of fuch controversies as may aryfe in thofe bounds hereafter , anent the difcon- formitie forefaid : and to report their diligence thereanent and conclufion in writte authenticklie fubfery ved by the faids ShirrefsofShyres,Magiftrats of Royal Burrowes, Baillies of Regalities , Burghs of Barronies and Juftices of Peace ; conveening within ilk ane of the forefaids Shirefdomes : And to prefent the fame to the Lords of his Majefties Council andSefllon, before the firft day of Julie next-to-come ; To the eftecT; the fame may be dely vered to the Clerke of Regifter to be infert in the bookes of Council ( adfuturam rei memo- riam ) And that none of the forefaids fyve fhyres , nor no others his Majefties Lieges within this Kingdome , pi efume or take upon hand in tyme to come; To buy , Sell , block , bargane , contract, orfettinTack, to, or with others , for receipt or dely verie , with any other weight , Mett, or meafure, nor the fame which now by this prefent Ad is approoved and eftabli filed. And this for report of the Commiflion above-written , Re- quyring the Lords of O U R S : V ERAIGNE LORDS Council and Seftion , That letters may be direcl for publication of the premiffes by open proclamation at the market Crocesofthe head Burrowes of thisRealme, and other places needful that non pretend ignorance of the fame, Commanding and charging, all and fundrie the faids Provefts and Baillies of Burrowes and Citties , both of Royalitie , and regalitie , and alfo the Baillies of Burrowes in Barronnies , and Juftices of Peace , and others whatfomever , in places where markets are holden ; To put in execution this prefent Ad and everie part thereof in fo farre as concerneth them, fo that the fame may take full effed after the dayes refpedive forefaids : With certification to them and they faillye , they fhall be called and accufed , and the paines contained in the Ads of Parliament , fhall bee execut upon them in all rigour in example of others.
