Gretchen Frances Hahnen (1902-1986) was an aviator trained by Clarence Duncan Chamberlin (1893-1976). She was the New Jersey governor of the Women's International Aeronautic Association, and a columnist on aviation for the Jersey Journal. She married Eddie August Schneider (1911-1940) in 1934 and in 1936 travelled to Valencia, Spain during the Spanish Civil War to spend Christmas with her husband and the other members of the Yankee Squadron. After the death of her husband, caused by a Naval aviator in a 1940 aviation accident, she petitioned the United States Congress for redress. She would marry twice more before dying in 1986. (b.
