- Death of her husband on way to San Francisco. "My great-grandfather, Abram Kershaw (born October 23, 1813; died October 9, 1854) … with his nephew William Duryea (the Glen Cove, Long Island, Starch Co. family), left New York during the gold rush to seek their fortunes in California. Great-grandfather died on the ship just as it reached San Francisco. I have several letters he wrote to my great-grandmother while on the voyage around the Horn, also the letter written by William Duryea telling of his sudden death."
- Death of her daughter. "Mrs. Anna Augusta Lindauer, ninety-one year old widow of [Charles Frederick Lindauer, died to]day at her home, 38 Elm Place, Rye."

"It is related of Captain William Oldrin, one of the charter members of the lodge, that on one occasion when a British cruiser, during the war of 1812, anchored under Crane Neck, a small cannon was brought to bear on her which was sighted and discharged by him with such skill and effect that the ball cut the halyards and the sails came down by the run, which so alarmed the crew that they beat a hasty retreat."
