Petheram, Sir William Comer, Kt., (1884), K.C., I.C.S. (retired); b. 1835; s. of William Petheram of Pinhoe, Exeter; m. Isabel, d. of Sir W. Congreve, 1863; qualified himself as Special Pleader, 1862; called to Bar (Middle Temple), 1869; Q.C. 1880; joined service in India as Chief Judge of the Chief Court of N.W.P., 1884; Chief Justice of Bengal, 1886; retired, 1896; late Vice-Chancellor of the Calcutta University.
