Lindauer Is Suspended By Highway Authority. Red Bank, New Jersey; July 21, 1955 (Associated Press) The suspension of Charles F. Lindauer of Paterson, supervisor of appraisals and negotiations, was announced today by the New Jersey Highway Authority, operator of the Garden State Parkway. The authority said the suspension would be in effect "until certain aspects of administrative procedures with in the right of way division have been clarified." Lindauer, who has been with the authority since February, 1954, was not immediately available for comment. His suspension was ordered by acting Executive Director D. Louis Tonti Monday, an authority spokesman said, on the recommendation of the authority's general attorney, Theodore Geiser, and with the approval of a special committee appointed by the director, to review certain administrative matters. "The authority will take no further action at this time beyond ratification of the interim measures put into effect by the acting director to maintain the routine business of the right of way division, but will await a full report when review is concluded", the authority members said in a statement issued after their regular semi-monthly meeting here. The Right of Way Division takes charge of appraising land and property and negotiating for property in connection with, the parkway construction. Tonti said he had offered to hold a public hearing for Lindauer August 4 and that Lindauer wanted to discuss the matter with his own attorney before accepting. Lindauer started with the authority as an appraiser in 1953 and has been supervisor of appraisals and negotiations since August, 1954. Other Matters. In other matters authority: Tonti was authorized to ask the State Highway Department to consider adding a third lane on Route 17 northbound from the Parkway terminus to Midland Avenue, Paramus to eliminate traffic congestion. Chairman Orrle De Nooyer said the authority was giving full consideration to the Idea of constructing a reversible roadway or third lanes or both in a section of the Parkway from Asbury Park to the Raritan River and widening of the Raritan River Bridge to relieve traffic congestion. However, he said this would be done "only after a definite traffic pattern has been established". "It would be fool hardy" he added, "for the authority to enter a multi-million dollar expenditures until a traffic pattern was clear.
