Introduction
[edit]One of the methods of making an eruv in certain mavois (alleyways) is to erect a korah across the entrance. A korah is essentially a beam that must fit to certain specifications. This mishnah will begin to enumerate the physical dimensions necesary for a korah to be valid.
Hebrew Text
[edit]- קורה שאמרו, רחבה לקבל אריח; והאריח, חצי לבינה של שלושה טפחים.
- דייה לקורה שתהא רחבה טפח, כדי אריח לאורכו.
English Translation
[edit]edit |
- The beam which was mentioned, it must be wide enough to hold an ariah, and an ariah is half a brick of three tefachim.
- It is okay for the beam to be a tefach wide so that it can hold the ariah sideways.
Explanation
[edit]According to this mishnah, a korah must be at least one tefach wide. Other issues relating to the korah will be addressed in later mishnas.
