Prayer of the Jordan

Mark Lidzbarski3807043Mandaïsche Liturgien — Prayer 131920Wikisource
XIII.
I went down to the Jordan,
not I alone,
Šilmai and Nidbai, my helpers,
went down with me to the Jordan.
Hibil, Šitil and Anōš
went down with me to the Jordan,
who performed the great baptism of life.
Piriawis-Zīwā and Piriafil-Malākhā
strengthened me the limbs of my body.

I descend before these souls whom life redeems,
saves and keeps from all evil,
from those who do not give and take,
who do not lend and get repaid,
from the Dēws who ran and did not reach,
from the Liliths who fell and did not get up.
Their hands sank to their knees,
their eyes became blind that they could not see,
their ears became deaf that they could not hear.

In your name, Šilmai and Nidbai,
with the power of Hibil, Šitil and Anōš
bind, seal and keep these souls who go down to the Jordan
and are baptized with the signet ring of Jōzaṭaq Mandā d-Haijē,
the physician whose power no one can match.
And life is victorious.

Commentary

[edit]
Read until you reach "Piriafil-Malākhā strengthened me the limbs of my body" and get into it up to a quarter of your yours.
When you baptize a soul, say "of my body. I descend before this soul of the NN".
If you baptize several souls, read as it is written.
In the place where it says "bind, seal and keep them", say (for one soul) "bind, seal and keep this soul of the NN". Place it in front of you and then read the saying from the staff.
