A Journey in Khorassan and Central Asia

[edit]

I hope I did not intrude when I transcluded A Journey in Khorassan and Central Asia. I proofread the last page, so it seemed the right thing to do at the time. I mention this as I have also now added it to New Texts on the main page, which I forgot to do at the time. Although I think you are already aware, I should probably mention that I created a category on Commons for the book scan and the images I derived from it (the map and both signatures; derived from the PDF version because it is less compressed than the DjVu). Anyway, it is a nice book and thanks for adding it to Wikisource. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 02:35, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

British Library (Legislation Sources)

[edit]

Hi..

As you claim to be the Wikipedian in Residence at the BL, I was wondering if you were able to check if the BL holds a copy of the 'Chronological Table of The Statutes' issued variously from some time in Victoria's reign

Currently Wikisource has an 1877 version, but i;n attempting to transcribe the table I've noted a few damaged or pages with missing text. As the BL was at one time a 'deposit library' for the UK it should have a copy of the original.

Amongst other items sought are scans of

  • Statute Law Revision Act 1948, because this includes Short Titles for a number of measures

(and it's the Short title that is used as the 'Wikisource' title in most cases.)

  • Chronological Tables of The Statutes (of Public General Acts) later than 1877, - My local library sources for this give

a version upto 1962 although a version updated to 2010 is supposed to exist. The reason for requesting this is also in determining short titles and in noting repeals.

  • Repealed Legislation passed prior to 1991. Wikisource has an edition of Ruffhead(which would help fill in the gaps in respect of early statutes), but this runs only as far as 9 Geo3,

From some very quick scanning on archive.org, it appears that there was a series of 'Public General Statutes' documents published during the reigns of Victoria and Edward VII, which would help in tracking down the short titles . (The UK SLD site does not hold legislation that became spent or was repealed before 1991)

Behramji Malabari

[edit]

Hi, I have created the author page of Behramji Malabari. Since you started Index:Malabari, Behramji M. - Gujarat and the Gujaratis (1882).djvu, I thought to notify you. Cheers. Solomon7968 (talk) 14:13, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Statutes...

[edit]

We have Index:Pickering - The Statutes at Large - Vol 43, Part 1 (1801, 41 George III).pdf

but I don't seem to be able to find a scan for Volume 43, Part II covering 1802 ?

Do you know of one? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:27, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@ShakespeareFan00: Hmm. This goes up to c. 109 on p. 345, plus local acts. According to the Chronological Table, this is complete for 41 Geo 3. The 1802 volume picks up at the start of 42 Geo 3 - c1 is duties on malt, c2 duties on pensions, c3 fish, etc. So for avoidance of doubt, there is a complete run of statutes here, even though the series changed.
The statutes.org.uk list doesn't have Part 2 of Pickering, but if you're worried about the archive.org version of the Tomlins volume being deleted, there's a volume here which may have better licensing. Andrew Gray (talk) 21:08, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Volume 43 part 2 (Pickering) must have been published (in 1802/1803), because the 1803 volume is 44 Part I. That there isn't a scan for it (yet) doesn't suprise me given that an original will be getting on for 200 years old. Wikisource seems to have a hybrid of various series in the relevant template currently, and my comments about some of the Google scans aren't printable.. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:38, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks... Can you look over the relevant templates: {{UK Statutes}} and {{Ruffhead volumes}}. The Google Books version for 1802/1803 is a possible replacement, provided it can be de-Googled ( Some of the other ex google scans have had to be 'repaired' locally by Wikisource contributors.)?

There are some volumes of the 1768 continuation of Ruffhead I've not located.. but I do seem to have found the continuation volumes of Runnington's edition.

Pinging some other people - @Hrishikes: @Xover:

Thanks for the link to - https://statutes.org.uk :) . Maybe someone should drop the maintainers of that site a link to Wikisource, because if they already have OCR to contribute, it's going to be a lot faster to get stuff transcribed.. I also note some volumes contributors here found that aren't necessarily mentioned on their site. :)

What is currently lacking in the run of scans, as far as I can tell is scans covering 5Geo3-25Geo3 (Possibly covered by some volumes of Pickering's edition?) , A sequence for pre 1707 Scottish Acts, and a sequence for pre 1800 Irish Acts. The template may need updating to accommodate that there are various sequences of volumes. ( I will also mention that User:Fæ seems to be doing some kind of mass pull from legislation.gov.uk as well. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also IIRC, there's a table in Volume 1 of Statutes of the Realm, which lists a number of collected editions prior to 1800?... ( Some of these early collections will most likely not have scans ). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:40, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm not quite sure what you're asking me to look over here, and I'm not sure I have any time to work on this at the moment, sorry. Andrew Gray (talk) 21:44, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Just a quick check, With respect to the later items, What is the status of the additional content in the scanned works? And can Wikisource/Commons actually host them? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:19, 29 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
