Spacing
[edit]Adding wide spacing for æsthetic reasons only, is against the Manual of Style. Where it is needed to separate columns in a table, and the like, it would be better to use {{em}} or {{gap}} as these both are supported and widely used. The unnecessary invention of {{msp}} is not supported—particularly as it is very limited in its use, in comparison with the other two. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 04:59, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Reverted. I assume that applies equally to inserting Unicode spacing like emspace ( ) or HTML entites like   directly into the text? And not that I doubt you on this, but where's this in the Manual of Style? I must have missed it on a readthrough, and I want to ensure there isn't a part of the manual I've overlooked entirely! - This is not specifically covered as such, it's more a part of the ethos in the Formatting section. "… we are trying to reproduce works for modern readership, not provide facsimiles of the time and place." And the first bullet point under point 7 in the same section, which tells us to remove extra spaces around punctuation. By leaving it "simple", we then allow for readers to apply their own CSS to allow them to read in the way that suits them best. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 04:15, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Helpful Proofreading Tool
[edit]Hey, since we've both been working on The Story of Philosophy I figured I'd share a tool I've been using that saves me a lot of time editing and proofreading! It's called TemplateScript (by Inductiveload). I find that using the "Clean up OCR" button solves a majority of OCR quirks that would be annoying to solve by hand. Feel free to copy it from my JavaScript page if you'd like!

- Thanks! Glad to be working with you. I actually already stumbled upon TemplateScript and use it all the time to remove OCR linebreaks and the other fun things it does. Been using AutoWikiBrowser to also help with some large-scale cleanup.
- I threw a lot of stuff into User:Brad606/common.js about a year ago... I probably don't need all of it. Would welcome any other suggestions! Brad606 (talk) 23:22, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
