Now that you're here, you're probably wondering...
Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikisource; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. We are a small community of approximately a hundred key people, with infinite help from random passersby. You might be wondering which of the two classes we consider you...well, I guess that's going to be up to you. You'll find we are own our little corner of the Wikimedia Foundation, free from all the drama, arguments and policy violations you may be used to seeing elsewhere. In fact, since we largely just republish exactly what others before us have already written, there is very little concern about "neutrality" for example. After all, if the text of a speech by Adolf Hitler is inflammatory and biased...wasn't that its purpose? If you're looking for a specific topic, you'll likely find it by navigating through Wikisource:Works, whether it's Portal:Islam or Portal:Mermaids. For overarching categories, you might be better looking at something like Category:Poems or Category:Novels. Of course, if you know the author's name, that's easiest of all, just plug in "Author:Rudyard Kipling" and you'll see everything he ever wrote (or was written about him!). |

Chances are, you have a favourite subject we don't cover very well...here's how to change that!
So, your favourite author or subject isn't very well represented on the project? Well as long as you make sure the texts fit the standards of Public Domain, you can add them yourself! (Like all rules, those are basic guidelines, if you want to play with exceptions to the rule, just ask any of the administrators for help) If the text doesn't already exist, just enter its name below and it will pre-load an editing page for you to set to work! Be sure to add {{no header}} to the top of the page, and then include categories so people can find it. If you can't think of any particular corners to improve on Wikisource, how about taking a look at Portal:Religious texts, Portal:Wars or Portal:Texts by Country for some ideas? Don't forget to list your contributions on those pages as well so others will find and read them in the future! |

Places to go, people to meet
 Well, if you've clicked all the way to this tab, you might as well plan on spending a few more hours acquainting yourself with our massive library. It's not perfect, sometimes there's an occasional misspelling or you'll see a text sorted incorrectly. So help us out, let us know, or fix it yourself! If you're bored and just wanting to grab a mop and bucket, then there are plenty of corners that need tidying. Works that need to be split into chapters, Works that need their licensing clarified, Works that need machine-read words corrected, Works that need page-numbers removed and Authors whose full names we don't know would all be a great place to start! |

Your account will be renamed

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Dcsohl. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Dcsohl~enwikisource that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

Preface to Letters from India
[edit]Hello. Thanks very much for your great work with the Letters from India. I have noticed that its Preface is transcluded twice: first as a part of the main page of the work, and then also on its own subpage, Letters from India Volume I/Preface. However, we transclude each page only once. Which of them would you prefer to keep? --Jan Kameníček (talk) 20:33, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Jan.Kamenicek: Here's what I was thinking ... in the book, the preface is before the TOC, so I kind of felt like it should stay that way in transclusion. But it's kind of annoying - most people will only read it once, but keep coming back to the TOC. So, if it's acceptable, I think it should be its own page ... maybe with an AuxTOC link? or have it be the automatic "Next" link from the main page? and get rid of it from the main page (though this is effectively reordering the pages of the original book...). As for linking from the work’s main page: Either we can make it similar to here (i. e. to add an AuxTOC bit containing only the Preface before the regular TOC), or we can put it only into the Navigation bar as "Next". In the latter case we should also add {{Hidden export TOC}} (similar as here), otherwise the export tools would not notice the Preface if somebody wanted to export the book to EPUB or something of that kind. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 22:01, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
