Page formatting

[edit]

Hi Sohom,

In cleaning out some maintenance categories I ran across Page:Login USENIX Newsletter feb1983.djvu/8, Page:Login USENIX Newsletter feb1983.djvu/9, and Page:Login USENIX Newsletter feb1983.djvu/10. I've removed the deprecated template that I was working on, but I also noticed that the way you've formatted these pages is very non-standard. We don't use raw HTML markup like <center> (use {{center}} instead), <span style="margin-left: 2em"> ({{left margin}}), or a lot of the generic wikimarkup like == headings == (do something like {{center|{{x-larger|headings}}}}, and :indentation (use {{left margin}}, {{gap}}, or {{em}}).

If we get the file undeleted at Commons (you should hopefully have gotten a ping from the request) these issues will have to be resolved in the Page:-namespace pages here. --Xover (talk) 11:15, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Xover Saw this now, sorry for taking over a year to respond :) (possibly dismissed the notification at some point of time last year and then forgot about it). I'll try and convert the pages over to the more templatey syntax and work on finishing the books that I started (probably adding a few more of these older computer magazine/newsletters as well). Sohom Datta (talk) 13:48, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
No worries; I do that occasionally as well (drowning in notifications, so some are inevitably lost). Let me know if you need any help or advice. Xover (talk) 08:40, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Global user pages

[edit]

Hi Sohom,

You may be interested in m:Global user pages. cf. this edit. Xover (talk) 08:39, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Xover I do have a global user page on meta, but since I've created a page here it stops the global user page from showing up, I'm not sure how to get rid of it. Sohom Datta (talk) 14:21, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Sohom data: You just request that it be deleted. Usually using {{sdelete|G7}}, but you can also just flag down an admin and ask them to do it. So since I have +sysop here I'll delete it imminently. :) Xover (talk) 14:35, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Filtering Special:LintErrors by contributors in history..

[edit]

Thanks for the the page status indicator, with a few tweaks I was able to remove un-proofread pages from the list shown entirely. (see User:ShakespeareFan00/pages.js for the version I am using. The changes are around line 37).

What I would now like is the ability to use a list I have in my common.js in resepct of another script that's been developed by User:Inductiveload ( User:Inductiveload/ActivePageAlert ) to help reduce editing conflicts. To hide pages that a "specfic" user had worked on. I lack the JS coding skills to implement this myself, but it would be a very powerful feature to have :). EIS: no OCR text

[edit]

I just had a quick look at EIS—just to get started—but I'm seeing what appears to be the OCR text disappearing from the editor at some point while EIS loads. I reproduced while logged out and in a different browser, so it's not obviously an incompatibility with a local gadget / user script or client-side issue. Unless it's an actual EIS bug that makes one of the enWS-local default gadgets the prime suspect. Can you confirm that EIS is supposed to be able to load the OCR and whether it works for you on enWS (I tried with Page:Options (1909).djvu/28, opened it from the Index and hit the "Edit pages in sequence" pseudo-tab), before I go digging too far down the rabbit hole debugging our Gadgets? Xover (talk) 16:26, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Xover OCR/Text layer support is still pending under review. I'm hoping to deploy it in the coming weeks :( Sohom (talk) 16:53, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Erm. Text layer support is pretty fundamental for the purpose of EIS. You typically wouldn't use EIS for tweaks to existing pages, and when creating new Page: pages the text layer is kinda important to have. Did nobody flag this at the three projects that beta tested it? Xover (talk) 17:28, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
It wasn't flagged, I assume they used the transcribe text feature which will also preload the OCRed text Sohom (talk) 23:11, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

New pageforward system

[edit]

I compared old and new page forward system and found the old way more direct : mouse to > (menu left), mouse to edit (menu center), computer page down bottom with left hand, save with mouse, back to menu > button. The new methode implies additional clics in an additional pop-up window, so that makes complex mouse movements without use of the other hand. And you do'nt have a read view of the texte before editing, to look for lay-out abnormalyties. In the new method, I see a third access to the page list, why? Just more clicks, clicks to make. I use only the one pagelist on the Pages Index. But it must have been quite a programming exercise for you. --Havang(nl) (talk) 18:02, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Try using it with the "Show this dialog every time "Save changes" is clicked" button unchecked Sohom (talk) 18:08, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I can do in the old system with three clicks for a new page, and four clics with existing pages. The new method is useless for me, and I will not use it. Its my opinion, I dont want to influence others opinion, so you may remove this message after reading. --Havang(nl) (talk) 18:34, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Old user subpage redirects

[edit]

When your account was renamed, a couple of the subpages of your old user page were turned into redirects, and because the bot that does the housekeeping doesn't have permissions for user CSS and JS these are now sitting as double redirects. Do you need the old redirects in Special:PrefixIndex/User:Sohom data/, or can I just nuke them? Xover (talk) 14:57, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oh. And User:Sohom Datta/openseadragonselection.js redirects to User:Sohom data/openseadragon minimap.js which redirects to User:Sohom Datta/openseadragon minimap.js. Could we just get rid of all the redirects under both old and new names to resolve this? Xover (talk) 15:05, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sure, feel free to remove those redirects. Sohom (talk) 15:59, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

How to run SodiumBot?

[edit]

Hi! I was wondering how to use the SodiumBot to help me populate pages for Index:The Royal Book of Oz.djvu. A different user recently utilized it and it helped me get through 60~ pages much quicker than if I was doing it by hand. It also highly increases my motivation to just proofread instead of also working to format/transcribe. I'd love to learn how to utilize the bot, or if you just wanted to help run it to populate some more pages that would be great. Whatever is easiest for you!

Best, SDudley (talk) 03:10, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@SDudley The activity that you saw was SodiumBot running Match and split jobs that another editor requested. You should be able to run them yourself through toolforge:matchandsplit :) Sohom (talk) 03:20, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I can't figure out how to make the toolforge work or the split jobs work with how its explained. Are you able to try and explain it a bit more? SDudley (talk) 17:33, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
I'm interesting too, to have more information. I have a page as exemple [here]. How to match & split it?
Thank you for the help and this great tool coming back. CyrMatt (talk) 11:41, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@CyrMatt I did see your job right now, there were some server issues yesterday which I fixed. You will need to go to match endpoint (https://matchandsplit.toolforge.org/match) and put in the language and just the name of the page (i.e. 'fr' and 'Traduction_de_la_Septante_et_du_Nouveau_Testament/Ruth') and the bot should theoretically do its job. Pagelist widget not working on Tewiki

[edit]

@Sohom Datta, @Rajasekhar1961 brought to my attention the lack of preview pagelist command on index pages on tewiki. I tried to investigate but could not solve it. Can you address the issue? (Sample index page on Tewiki) Arjunaraoc (talk) 09:30, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Arjunaraoc Sorry for the rather late reply, the preview widget seems to be showing up, is there a chance it got fixed in the mean time? Maybe @Rajasekhar1961 Could you provide a screenshot of what is wrong? Sohom (talk) 19:09, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sohom Datta, I checked again on Firefox (126.0.1 Firefox snap for ubuntu) and Chrome (125.0.6422.112 (Official Build) (64-bit)) on Ubuntu 22.04. I disabled all gadget preferences as well. Still the pagelist widget is not displayed on sample index pages. The console messages I got for a sample page are

Hope that helps you to debug the issue. Arjunaraoc (talk) 00:34, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
That seems fine imo, can you describe (or post a screenshot) what you see when you go to [1] in the "పుటలు" field ? (Do you see anything/is it broken?) Sohom (talk) 01:18, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sohom Datta, I am sorry, I forgot that menu shows up when trying to edit the page. Arjunaraoc (talk) 03:37, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah no issues :) Sohom (talk) 04:11, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Adding gadgets to Malay Wikisource

[edit]

Hi Sohom,

Could I request for your help to import the gadgets listed on the Preferences from English Wikisource to Malay Wikisource (https://ms.wikisource.org)? It seems like only interface administrators are able to import MediaWiki gadgets but not the local administrator. Among the gadgets, the most important one would be HotCat since it is crucial for works related to categorization.

Regards, Hakimi97 (talk) 13:08, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sure, will be happy to do that. Sohom (talk) 13:59, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Sohom.
Thank you for helping me to import some of the necessary gadgets. However it seems like the gadgets are still not displayed properly on the Preferences (Malay Wikisource), perhaps it is related to MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition and MediaWiki:Common.js? I appreciate if you could configure these pages as well so that the gadgets could be displayed properly, just like on the Preferences (English Wikisource).
Regards, Hakimi97 (talk) 00:56, 16 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Hakimi97 Hey, sorry about that, I've configured things properly for now (I got pulled away on something in real life yesterday). Let me know if you need any other gadgets from enwikisource. Btw, if you wanted to translate any of the strings on the gadgets page, feel free to let me know :) Sohom (talk) 14:31, 16 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Sohom. Sure! If our community needs any other gadgets I will contact you later. For translation part I think it is managable because I am temporarily an administrator. Hakimi97 (talk) 23:45, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Sohom,
Could you help to add on another gadget called "Display Options" for Malay Wikisource? This is for the page numbers to appear normally on the transclusion page.

Job ID stalled

I've tried to run https://matchandsplit.toolforge.org/ on pt.Wikisource but my task, with Job ID 582, got stalled. Could you please take a look at it? Lugusto 19:01, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
