Spaces before semicolons
[edit]Hello. Thanks very much for your contributions, it is really appreciated! I would just like to point out that the Wikisource formatting rules say that although we try to match the formatting of texts as close to the original as possible, there are some exceptions. One of them is that we should remove spaces before colon, semicolons etc., see Wikisource:Style guide#Formatting, point no. 7 Punctuation.
I am looking forward to more contributions of yours :-). Thanks again. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 11:28, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! I was wondering about the rules here.
- What about double-spacing after periods? That used to be standard, but in this internet age, a single space is now standard, at least for Americans. -- Valjean (talk) 15:29, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- The wikitext parser automatically collapses double spaces down to a single space. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:11, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- See also Help:Beginner's guide to typography#Paragraphs and sentences, part A single space is sufficient between sentences. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 17:55, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Quotation
[edit]Just FYI, in case this comes up again in that book: Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help#Weird blockquote formatting WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:13, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- Good to know. -- Valjean (talk) 00:45, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

The mysterious L.S.
[edit]LS#Latin seems to narrow it down to two options, but I don't know which one it means. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:09, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- WhatamIdoing, I would guess it's either the greeting or the place for a seal, but I tend to lean toward the seal, as it's in a box. See this source which describes the historical usage. Here are images, often in fancy circles, but this one in a square. This example looks like ours and mentions a seal. That one seals the deal for me, pun intended. ;)
- I think we should include the L.S. in a box. I'm not sure how to create it. Who is a good coder? -- Valjean (talk) 16:30, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- We could just ask for help at Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help. That seems to be the usual thing in this community – sort of like you'd ask at a WikiProject at enwiki. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:00, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes. Done. -- Valjean (talk) 20:21, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

- BTW, it appears that another contributor is willing to work on Index:The Federalist (1818).djvu. Let's see if we can make some progress? WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:12, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds good. -- Valjean (talk) 17:57, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- Do you feel like fixing the formatting on Page:The Federalist (1818).djvu/31 for me? I've mostly been skipping the chapter headings and proofreading the rest. WhatamIdoing (talk) 15:39, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- WhatamIdoing, take a look now. -- Valjean (talk) 21:45, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's much better. As you can see from the periodic red pages at Index:The Federalist (1818).djvu, I've been doing the easy pages. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:18, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
