Prayer of the witnesses at the Jordan

Mark Lidzbarski3807060Mandaïsche Liturgien — Prayer 211920Wikisource
XXI.
In the name of life.

Out of the Jordan I came up,
I met the tribe of souls.
I met the tribe of souls
who embraced our father Šitil.
They say to him:
"By your life, our father Šitil,
go with us to the Jordan River."
"If I go with you to the Jordan,
who will be a witness for you?"
"If the sun has risen,
it will be a witness for us".
"This is not what I desire,
this is not what my soul wants.
The sun, of which you speak,
rises in the morning, sets in the evening.
The sun, of which you speak,
the sun passes away.
Yes, the sun passes away,
its worshippers pass away".

I came up out of the Jordan,
I met the tribe of souls.
I met the tribe of souls
who embraced our father Šitil.
They say to him:
"By your life, our father Šitil.
go with us to the Jordan".
"If I go with you to the Jordan,
who will be a witness for you?"
"When the moon has risen,
he will be a witness for us".
"This is not what I desire,
that is not what my soul desires.
The moon, of which you speak,
rises in the evening, sets in the morning.
The moon, of which you speak,
the moon passes away.
Yes, the moon passes away,
its worshippers pass away".

I came up out of the Jordan,
and there I met the tribe of souls.
I met the tribe of souls
who embraced our father Šitil.
They say to him:
"By your life, our father Šitil
go with us to the Jordan."
"If I go with you to the Jordan,
who will be a witness for you?"
"If the fire flames,
it will be a witness for us".
"This is not what I desire,
this is not what my soul desires.
The fire, of which you speak,
goes out in its time (?) in the day.
The fire of which you speak,
the fire dies.
Yes, the fire passes away,
its worshippers pass away".

I went up from the Jordan,
there I met the tribe of the souls.
I met the tribe of souls
who embraced our father Šitil.
They say to him:
"By your life, our father Šitil,
go with us to the Jordan."
"If I go with you to the Jordan,
who will be a witness for you?"
"The Jordan with its two banks
will be a witness for us.
The Pihtā, the Kuštā and the Mambūgā
will be witnesses for us.
The Sunday and the almsgiving
will be witnesses for us.
The temple where we practice worship
will be a witness for us.
The alms in our hand
will be a witness for us.
Our father at our head
will be witness for us".
"This is what I desire,
this is what my soul wants.
"When I ascend to the house of life
and go to the light dwelling,
when life queries me,
witnesses will come and testify.
True witnesses they are,
true is all that they say."
And life is victorious.
