The Music of the Spheres
The last time I uploaded to IA, everything was going fine, the files had their names changed and it said it was deriving, etc. However, when I go back to the upload, the names of the files are not changed and everything is as I uploaded it. I mention this all now because I have uploaded the scan of The Music of the Spheres tonight. The tar file is available at https://archive.org/details/musicofspheres
Perhaps you can ignore the fact that I have not been chatting on non-talk pages as promised and make a djvu of it any way. Thank you for your time.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 01:55, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- Probably the issue here is that your tar file isn't named ending in
_images.tar
, so it won't be treated as an image sequence, but rather just a binary blob file. See the documentation (such that a blog post can be called documentation). Inductiveload—talk/contribs 02:07, 1 January 2022 (UTC)- I tried that. That file change (the blog was from 2012, btw) caused the same thing as the last file. Here is a partial paste from the log:
[task_id] ==> [3060730024] [identifier] ==> [musicofspheres] [server] ==> [ia601405.us.archive.org] [cmd] ==> [bup.php] [args] ==> [dir=%2F31%2Fitems%2Fmusicofspheres&prevtask=3060729600] [submittime] ==> [2022-01-01 15:58:08.665814] [submitter] ==> [rabo] [priority] ==> [-3] [wait_admin] ==> [1] [finished] ==> [0]
- I think that [wait_admin] ==> [1] is the "problem" in combination with a priority of -3. I was also hoping that the whole "waiting" process could be skipped by making the djvu here.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 16:04, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, if you want I can upload the djvu with no text layer. I do not know how the local OCR will behave as pages are rotated and with a black gutter. Mpaa (talk) 17:06, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- Mpaa Of course I would like a DJVU uploaded! Thank you so much for the offer! I have some questions, however. When I prepared the files, I made them to match the processed jp2 I see at IA. Reading what you wrote, I all of a sudden am thinking that was a mistake. I can upload the unrotated files (I was so pleased with my script that put them all upright....) Whatever you need for me to do for this is just fine, it should take less than an hour for sure, only depending on real life "things". Maybe this is the problem at IA also. The question should be "Do you want them unrotated?" and also, "Do you think (or know) that IA want them unrotated also?" Thanks again!--RaboKarbakian (talk) 18:08, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- Maybe I was unclear, with "rotated" and with "gutter" I mean this: https://ia801405.us.archive.org/view_archive.php?archive=/31/items/musicofspheres/musicofspheres.tar&file=musicofspheres%2Fmos-0103.jp2&ext=jpg.
- So I do not know how the OCR will perform. Mpaa (talk) 18:51, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Notifying all members of Scan Lab (more info · opt out): Can somebody upload [2] for this MC. Languageseeker (talk) 04:23, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Languageseeker Doing…, though it would be a lot easier if you could make spreadsheet out of the rest of these.
- Also, it's good to note the copyright in cases like this. This is suitable for Commons only because it was published in the UK and US simultaneously (June 1926). If that couldn't be proved (as it often can't), it should be a local upload. Remember, the uploader is the one that will get hit with a deletion process at Commons if they assume you've already done the due diligence, look at the "New York" publisher city and just go to Commons (which in this case would be OK, but not for that reason). History of the Thirty Years’ War
Notifying all members of Scan Lab (more info · opt out): I would like to ask for uploading a djvu version of History of the Thirty Years’ War, volume 1 by Antonín Gindely (1829–1892), translated by Andrew Ten Brook (1814–1899), published in New York in 1884, under the {{PD-old}} license. There are also some copies in the Internet Archive, but they are much worse than this one. I could upload the original PDF version, but I am not able to transform it into DJVU. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 12:34, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

- @Inductiveload: I really thought I had checked it well, but now I see I had not: There are 2 extra pages after page no. 245 in the first volume (290 and 291 in the file). These two pages are repeated again after page no. 246 and so they should probably be removed. I really am sorry. I will fix the index afterwards. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 21:17, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- If they're just duplicate pages, as opposed to missing content, personally I'd be inclined to just page list them as "dup" or similar and set them as "without text". It won't affect the transcluded content. I probably can't address it today, though if someone else wants to wield

Fantasmagoriana
Notifying all members of Scan Lab (more info · opt out): Please could someone upload volume 2 of Fantasmagoriana from HathiTrust (scan here)? There is an existing Google Books scan, but it is very low quality, meaning that for Volume 1, I've been keeping HathiTrust open at all times to check if accents on letters are correct, whether a mark is punctuation or just a scanning artefact, etc. (normally at least one or two issues per page). I uploaded Volume 1 to Commons as Fantasmagoriana (tome 1).djvu; if at all possible, it would be great to have the HathiTrust version of Volume 1 uploaded as a new version of the same file too, to make completing the current proofread much easier, and make sure the validation stage is done against a high quality original (the HathiTrust scan is just a higher quality copy of the exact same Google scan, as can be seen by the covers, annotations on the title page, etc., so it should match exactly page for page without any page moves needed).
- Data for Volume 2:
- Filename suggestion Fantasmagoriana (tome 2).djvu
- Author: Jean-Baptiste Benoît Eyriès
- Pub date: 1812
- Description: Fantasmagoriana (volume 2 of 2) by various authors, translated by Jean-Baptiste Benoît Eyriès, Paris: F. Schoell (1812).
- Licenses:
This work was published before January 1, 1929, and is in the public domain worldwide because the author died at least 100 years ago.

- Also if you have the actual book to hand, and it's got that cover, could you scan that too? It turned out the cover art wasn't copyright via no-notice, but the IA copy has big old stickers on the front and back. Inductiveload—talk/contribs 23:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Inductiveload: Yes! When I saw this work sitting around with a few missing pages, I checked, and saw that my library has a copy. I was going to scan in the front cover as well, (as I did notice the large sticker,) but, unfortunately, my copy also has a large sticker, which covers the same spot. The book is too thin to have the sticker on the spine, so librarians put it in the bottom-left corner of the cover page. I will check the back cover, though. TE(æ)A,ea.
