Chapter 1

1There was a certain man in the land of Ausis, whose name was Job; and than man was true, blameless, righteous, and godly, abstaining from everything evil.	ανθρωπός τις ην εν γη Ους Ιωβ όνομα αυτώ και ην ο άνθρωπος εκείνος αληθινός άμωμος ανήρ απλούς και ευθύς και φοβούμενος τον θεόν απεχόμενος από παντός πονηρού πράγματος
2And he had seven sons and three daughters.	εγένοντο δε αυτώ υιοί επτά και θυγατέρες τρεις
3And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.	και ην τα κτήνη αυτού πρόβατα επτακισχίλια κάμηλοι τρισχίλιαι ζεύγη βοών πεντακόσια και όνοι θήλεια νομάδες πεντακόσιαι και υπηρεσία πολλή σφόδρα και έργα μεγάλα ην αυτώ επί της γης και ην άνθρωπος εκείνος μέγας των αφ΄ ηλίου ανατολών
4And his sons visiting one another prepared a banquet every day, taking with them also their three sisters to eat and drink with them.	συμπορευόμενοι δε οι υιοί αυτού προς αλλήλους εποίουν πότον έκαστος την εαυτού ημέραν συμπαραλαμβάνοντες άμα και τας τρεις αδελφάς αυτών εσθίειν και πίνειν μετ΄ αυτών
5And when the days of the banquet were completed, Job sent and purified them, having risen up in the morning, and offered sacrifices for them, according to their number, and one calf for a sin-offering for their souls: for Job said, Lest peradventure my sons have thought evil in their minds against God. Thus, then Job did continually.	και ως αν συνετελέσθησαν αι ημέραι του πότου απέστελλεν Ιωβ και εκαθάριζεν αυτούς ανιστάμενος τοπρωϊ και προσεφέρων περί αυτών θυσίας κατά τον αριθμόν αυτών έλεγε γαρ Ιωβ μήποτε ήμαρτον και ευλόγησαν θεόν επί καρδίας αυτών οι υιοί μου ούτως ουν εποίει Ιωβ πάσας τας ημέρας
6And it came to pass on a day, that behold, the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, and the devil came with them.	και εγένετο η ημέρα αύτη και ιδού ήλθον οι υιοί του θεού παραστήναι ενώπιον του κυρίου και ο διάβολος ήλθε εν μέσω αυτών
7And the Lord said to the devil, Whence art thou come? And the devil answered the Lord, and said, I am come from compassing the earth, and walking up and down in the world.	και είπεν ο κύριος τω διαβόλω πόθεν παραγέγονας και αποκριθείς ο διάβολος τω κυρίω είπε περιελθών την γην και εμπεριπατήσας την υπ΄ ουρανόν πάρειμι
8And the Lord said to him, Hast thou diligently considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a man blameless, true, godly, abstaining from everything evil?	και είπεν αυτώ ο κύριος προσέσχες ουν τη διανοία σου κατά του θεράποντός μου Ιωβ ότι ουκ έστιν αυτώ όμοιος των επί της γης άνθρωπος άμεμπτος ανήρ απλούς και ευθύς και φοβούμενος τον θεόν απεχόμενος από παντός πονηρού πράγματος
9Then the devil answered, and said before the Lord, Does Job worship the Lord for nothing?	απεκρίθη δε ο διάβολος και είπεν έναντι του κυρίου μη δωρεάν Ιωβ φοβείται τον θεόν
10Hast thou not made a hedge about him, and about his household, and all his possessions round about? and hast thou not blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his cattle upon the land?	ουχί συ περιέφραξας αυτού και τα έσω της οικίας αυτού και τα έξω και πάντων των όντων αυτώ κύκλω τα έργα των χειρών αυτού ευλόγησας και τα κτήνη αυτού πολλά εποίησας επί της γης
11But put forth thine hand, and touch all that he has: verily he will bless thee to thy face.	αλλά απόστειλον την χείρά σου και άψαι πάντων ων έχει ημήν εις πρόσωπόν σου ευλογήσει σε
12Then the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I give into thine hand all that he has, but touch not himself. So the devil went out from the presence of the Lord.	τότε είπεν ο κύριος τω διαβόλω ιδού πάντα όσα εστίν αυτώ δίδωμι εν τη χειρί σου αλλ΄ αυτού μη άψη και εξήλθεν ο διάβολος παρά του κυρίου
13And it came to pass on a certain day, that Job's sons and his daughters were drinking wine in the house of their elder brother.	και ην ως η ημέρα αύτη οι υιοί Ιωβ και αι θυγατέρες αυτού έπινον οίνον εν τη οικία του αδελφού αυτών του πρεσβυτέρου
14And, behold, there came a messenger to Job, and said to him, The yokes of oxen were ploughing, and the she-asses were feeding near them;	και ιδού άγγελος ήλθε προς Ιωβ και είπεν αυτώ τα ζεύγη των βοών ηροτρία και αι θήλειαι όνοι εβόσκοντο εχόμεναι αυτών
15and the spoilers came and took them for a prey, and slew the servants with the sword; and I having escaped alone am come to tell thee.	και επέπεσε Σαβά και ηχμαλώτευσαν αυτάς και τους παίδας απέκτειναν εν μαχαίραις σωθείς δε εγώ μόνος ήλθον του απαγγείλαί σοι
16While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, Fire has fallen from heaven, and burnt up the sheep, and devoured the shepherds like wise; and I having escaped alone am come to tell thee.	έτι τούτου λαλούντος ήλθεν έτερος και είπε προς Ιωβ πυρ παρά του θεού έπεσεν εκ του ουρανού και κατέκαυσε τα πρόβατα και τους ποιμένας κατέφαγεν όμοιως και σωθείς εγώ μόνος ήλθον του απαγγείλαί σοι
17While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, The horsemen formed three companies against us, and surrounded the camels, and took them for a prey, and slew the servants with the sword; and I only escaped, and am come to tell thee.	έτι τούτου λαλούντος ήλθεν έτερος άγγελος και είπε προς Ιωβ οι Χαλδαίοι επέθηκαν τρεις αρχάς και εκύκλωσαν τας καμήλους και ηχμαλώτευσαν αυτάς και τους παίδας απέκτειναν εν μαχαίραις εσώθην δε εγώ μόνος και ήλθον του απαγγείλαί σοι
18While he is yet speaking, another messenger comes, saying to Job, While thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking with their elder brother,	έτι τούτου λαλούντος άλλος άγγελος έρχεται λέγων τω Ιωβ των υιών σου και των θυγατέρων σου εσθιόντων και πινόντων παρά τω αδελφώ αυτών τω πρεσβυτέρω
19suddenly a great wind came on from the desert, and caught the four corners of the house, and the house fell upon thy children, and they are dead; and I have escaped alone, and am come to tell thee.	εξαίφνης πνεύμα μέγας επήλθεν εκ της ερήμου και ήψατο των τεσσάρων γωνιών της οικίας και έπεσεν η οικία επί τα παιδία σου και ετελεύτησαν εσώθην δε εγώ μόνος και ήλθον του απαγγείλαί σοι
20So Job arose, and rent his garments, and shaved the hair of his head, and fell on the earth, and worshipped,	ούτως αναστάς Ιωβ διέρρηξε τα ιμάτια αυτού και εκείρατο την κόμην της κεφαλής αυτού και πεσών χαμαί προσεκύνησε
21and said, I myself came forth naked from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither; the Lord gave, the Lord has taken away: as it seemed good to the Lord, so has it come to pass; blessed be the name of the Lord.	και είπεν αυτός γυμνός εξήλθον εκ κοιλίας μητρός μου γυμνός και απελεύσομαι εκεί ο κύριος έδωκεν ο κύριος αφείλατο ως τω κυρίω έδοξεν ούτως και εγένετο είη τον όνομα κυρίου ευλογημένον
22In all these events that befell him Job sinned not at all before the Lord, and did not impute folly to God.	εν τούτοις πάσι τοις συμβεβηκόσιν αυτώ ουδέν ήμαρτεν Ιωβ εναντίον του κυρίου και ουκ έδωκεν αφροσύνην τω θεώ

Chapter 2

1And it came to pass on a certain day, that the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, and the devil came among them to stand before the Lord.	εγένετο δε ως η ημέρα αύτη και ήλθον οι υιοί του θεού παραστήναι εναντίον του κυρίου και ο διάβολος ήλθεν εν μέσω αυτών παραστήναι εναντίον του κυρίου
2And the Lord, said to the devil, Whence comest thou? Then the devil said before the Lord, I am come from going through the world, and walking about the whole earth.	και είπεν ο κύριος τω διαβόλω πόθεν συ έρχη τότε είπεν ο διάβολος εναντίον του κυρίου διαπορευθείς την υπ΄ ουρανόν και εμπεριπατήσας την σύμπασαν πάρειμι
3And the Lord said to the devil, Hast thou then observed my servant Job, that there is none of men upon the earth like him, a harmless, true, blameless, godly man, abstaining from all evil? and he yet cleaves to innocence, whereas thou has told me to destroy his substance without cause?	είπε δε ο κύριος προς τον διάβολον προσέσχες ουν τω θεράποντί μου Ιωβ ότι ουκ έστι κατ΄ αυτόν των επί της γης άνθρωπος άκακος αληθινός άμεμπτος θεοσεβής απεχόμενος από παντός κακού έτι δε έχεται ακακίας συ δε είπας τα υπάρχοντα αυτού διακενής απολέσαι
4And the devil answered and said to the Lord, Skin for skin, all that a man has will he give as a ransom for his life.	υπολαβών δε ο διάβολος είπε τω κυρίω δέρμα υπέρ δέρματος και πάντα όσα υπάρχει ανθρώπω υπέρ της ψυχής αυτού δώσει
5Nay, but put forth thine hand, and touch his bones and his flesh: verily he will bless thee to thy face.	ου μην δε αλλά απόστειλον την χείρά σου άψαι των οστών αυτού και των σαρκών αυτού ημήν εις πρόσωπόν σε ευλογήσει
6And the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I deliver him up to thee; only save his life.	είπε δε ο κύριος τω διαβόλω ιδού παραδίδωμί σοι αυτόν μόνον την ψυχήν αυτού φύλαξον
7So the devil went out from the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from his feet to his head.	και εξήλθεν ο διάβολος από του κυρίου και έπαισε τον Ιωβ έλκει πονηρώ από ποδών έως κεφαλής
8And he took a potsherd to scrape away the discharge, and sat upon a dung-heap outside the city.	και έλαβεν εαυτώ όστρακον ίνα τον ιχώρα ξύη και αυτός εκάθητο εντός της σποδού
9And when much time had passed, his wife said to him, How long wilt thou hold out, saying, Behold, I wait yet a little while, expecting the hope of my deliverance? for, behold, thy memorial is abolished from the earth, even thy sons and daughters, the pangs and pains of my womb which I bore in vain with sorrows; and thou thyself sittest down to spend the nights in the open air among the corruption of worms, and I am a wanderer and a servant from place to place and house to house, waiting for the setting of the sun, that I may rest from my labours and my pangs which now beset me: but say some word against the Lord, and die.	και είπεν αυτώ η γυνή αυτού μέχρι τίνος καρτερήσεις αλλά είπον τι ρήμα προς θεόν και τελεύτα
10But he looked on her, and said to her, Thou hast spoken like one of the foolish women. If we have received good things of the hand of the Lord, shall we not endure evil things? In all these things that happened to him, Job sinned not at all with his lips before God.	ο δε εμβλέψας αυτή είπεν ινατί ώσπερ μία των αφρόνων γυναικών ελάλησας ει τα αγαθά εκδεξάμεθα εκ χειρός κυρίου τα κακά ουχ υποίσομεν εν πάσι τούτοις τοις συμβεβηκόσιν αυτώ ουδέν ήμαρτεν Ιωβ τοις χείλεσιν εναντίον του κύριον
11Now his three friends having heard of all the evil that was come upon him, came to him each from his own country: Eliphaz the king of the Thaemans, Baldad sovereign of the Saucheans, Sophar king of he Minaeans: and they came to him with one accord, to comfort and to visit him.	ακούσαντες δε οι τρεις φίλοι αυτού τα κακά πάντα τα επελθόντα αυτώ παρεγένοντο έκαστος εκ της ιδίας χώρας προς αυτόν Ελιφάζ ο Θαιμανών βασιλεύς Βαλδάδ ο Σαυχαίων τύραννος Σωφάρ ο Μιναίων βασιλεύς και παρεγένοντο προς αυτόν ομοθυμαδόν του παρακαλέσαι και επισκέψασθαι αυτόν
12And when they saw him from a distance they did not know him; and they cried with a loud voice, and wept, and rent every one his garment, and sprinkled dust upon their heads,	ιδόντες δε αυτόν πόρρωθεν ουκ επέγνωσαν και βοήσαντες φωνή μεγάλη έκλαυσαν ρήξαντες έκαστος την εαυτού στολήν και καταπασάμενοι γην
13and they sat down beside him seven days and seven nights, and no one of them spoke; for they saw that his affliction was dreadful and very great.	παρεκάθισαν αυτώ επτά ημέρας και επτά νύκτας και ουδείς αυτών ελάλησεν προς αυτόν λόγον εώρων γαρ την πληγήν δεινήν ούσαν και μεγάλην σφόδρα

Chapter 3

1After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed his day,	και μετά τούτο ήνοιξε Ιωβ το στόμα αυτού και κατηράσατο την ημέραν αυτού
2saying,	λέγων
3Let the day perish in which I was born, and that night in which they said, Behold a man-child!	απόλοιτο η ημέρα εν η εγεννήθην και η νυξ εν η είπαν ιδού άρσεν
4Let that night be darkness, and let not the Lord regard it from above, neither let light come upon it.	η νυξ εκείνη είη σκότος και μη αναζητήσαι αυτήν ο κύριος άνωθεν μηδέ έλθοι εις αυτήν φέγγος
5But let darkness and the shadow of death seize it; let blackness come upon it;	εκλάβοι δε αυτήν σκότος και σκιά θανάτου επέλθοι επ΄ αυτήν γνόφος και ταραχθείη η ημέρα εκείνη
6let that day and night be cursed, let darkness carry them away; let it not come into the days of the year, neither let it be numbered with the days of the months.	και η νυξ εκείνη απενέγκαιτο αυτήν σκότος μη είη εις ημέρας ενιαυτού μηδέ αριθμηθείη εις ημέρας μηνών
7But let that night be pain, and let not mirth come upon it, nor joy.	αλλά η νυξ εκείνη είη οδύνη και μη έλθοι επ΄ αυτήν ευφροσύνη μηδέ χαρμονή
8But let him that curses that day curse it, even he that is ready to attack the great whale.	αλλά καταράσαιτο αυτήν ο καταρώμενος την ημέραν εκείνην οι μέλλοντες διεγείρειν τον Λεβιαθάν
9Let the stars of that night be darkened; let it remain dark, and not come into light; and let it not see the morning star arise:	σκοτωθείη τα άστρα της νυκτός εκείνης και μη υπομείναι και εις φωτισμόν μη έλθοι και μη ίδοι Εωσφόρον ανατέλλοντα
10because it shut not up the gates of my mother's womb, for so it would have removed sorrow from my eyes.	ότι ου συνέκλεισε πύλας γαστρός μητρός μου απήλλαξε γαρ αν πόνον από οφθαλμών μου
11For why died I not in the belly? and why did I not come forth from the womb and die immediately?	διατί γαρ εν κοιλία ουκ ετελεύτησα εκ γαστρός δε εξήλθον και ουκ ευθύς απωλόμην
12and why did the knees support me? and why did I suck the breasts?	ινατί δε συνήντησάν μοι τα γόνατα ινατί δε μαστούς εθήλασα
13Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,	νυν αν κοιμηθείς ησύχασα υπνώσας δε ανεπαυσάμην
14with kings and councillors of the earth, who gloried in their swords;	μετά βασιλέων βουλευτών γης οι εγαυριώντο επί ξίφεσιν
15or with rulers, whose gold was abundant, who filled their houses with silver:	η μετά αρχόντων ων πολύς ο χρυσός οι έπλησαν τους οίκους αυτών αργυρίου
16or I should have been as an untimely birth proceeding from his mother's womb, or as infants who never saw light.	η ώσπερ έκτρωμα εκπορευόμενον εκ μήτρας μητρός η ώσπερ νήπιοι οι ουκ είδον φως
17There the ungodly have burnt out the fury of rage; there the wearied in body rest.	εκεί ασεβείς έπαυσαν θυμόν οργής εκεί ανεπαύσαντο κατάκοποι τω σώματι
18And the men of old time have together ceased to hear the exactor's voice.	ομοθυμαδόν δε οι δεδεμένοι ουκ ήκουσαν φωνήν φορολόγου
19The small and great are there, and the servant that feared his lord.	μικρός και μέγας εκεί εστι και θεράπων δεδοικώς τον κύριον αυτού
20For why is light given to those who are in bitterness, and life to those souls which are in griefs?	ινατί γαρ δέδοται τοις εν πικρία φως ζωή δε ταις εν οδύναις ψυχαίς
21who desire death, and obtain it not, digging for it as for treasures;	οι ιμείρονται του θανάτου και ου τυγχάνουσιν ανορύσσοντες ώσπερ θησαυρούς
22and would be very joyful if they should gain it?	περιχαρείς δε εγένοντο εάν κατατύχωσι θάνατος ανδρί ανάπαυσις
23Death is rest to such a man, for God has hedged him in.	ου η οδός απεκρύβη συνέκλεισε γαρ ο θεός κατ΄ αυτού
24For my groaning comes before my food, and I weep being beset with terror.	προ γαρ των σίτων μου στεναγμός ήκει μοι και χυθήσεται ως ύδατα βρυχήματα
25For the terror of which I meditated has come upon me, and that which I had feared has befallen me.	φόβος γαρ ον εφρόντισα ήλθέ μοι και ον εδεδοίκειν συνήντησέ μοι
26I was not at peace, nor quiet, nor had I rest; yet wrath came upon me.	ούτε ειρήνευσα ούτε ησύχασα ούτε ανεπαυσάμην ήλθε δε μοι οργή

Chapter 4

1Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ελιφάζ ο Θαιμανίτης λέγει
2Hast thou been often spoken to in distress? but who shall endure the force of thy words?	ει ληψόμεθα λαλήσαι προς σε κοπιάσεις ισχύν δε ρημάτων σου τις υποίσει
3For whereas thou hast instructed many, and hast strengthened the hands of the weak one,	ει γαρ συ ενουθέτησας πολλούς και χείρας ασθενούς παρεκάλεσας
4and hast supported the failing with words, and hast imparted courage to feeble knees.	ασθενούντάς τε εξανέστησας ρήμασι γόνασί τε αδυνατούσι θάρσος περιέθηκας
5Yet now that pain has come upon thee, and touched thee, thou art troubled.	νυν δε ήκει επί σε πόνος και ήψατό σου συ εσπούδασας
6Is not thy fear founded in folly, thy hope also, and the mischief of thy way?	πότερον ουχ ο φόβος σου εστίν εν αφροσύνη και η ελπίς σου και η κακία της οδού σου
7Remember then who has perished, being pure? or when were the true-hearted utterly destroyed?	μνήσθητι ουν τις ων καθαρός απώλετο η πότε αληθινοί ολόρριζοι απώλοντο
8Accordingly as I have seen men ploughing barren places, and they that sow them will reap sorrows for themselves.	καθ΄ ον τρόπον είδον τους αροτριώντας τα άτοπα οι δε σπείροντες αυτά οδύνας θεριούσιν εαυτοίς
9They shall perish by the command of the Lord, and shall be utterly consumed by the breath of his wrath.	από προστάγματος κυρίου απολούνται από δε πνεύματος οργής αυτού αφανισθήσονται
10The strength of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the exulting cry of serpents are quenched.	σθένος λέοντος φωνή δε λεαίνης γαυρίαμα δε δρακόντων εσβέσθη
11The old lion has perished for want of food, and the lions' whelps have forsaken one another.	μυρμηκολέων ώλετο παρά το μη έχειν θήραν σκύμνοι δε λεόντων έλιπον αλλήλους
12But if there had been any truth in thy words, none of these evils would have befallen thee. Shall not mine ear receive excellent revelations from him?	προς εμέ δε ελαλήθη λαθραίως εν κλοπή πότερον ου δέξεται μου το ους εξαίσια παρ΄ αυτού
13But as when terror falls upon men, with dread and a sound in the night,	εν εκπλήξει απ΄ οράματός μου νυκτερινού επιπίπτων φόβος επ΄ ανθρώπους
14horror and trembling seized me, and caused all my bones greatly to shake.	φρίκη δε μοι συνήντησε και τρόμος και μεγάλως μου τα οστά συνέσεισε
15And a spirit came before my face; and my hair and flesh quivered.	και πνεύμα επί πρόσωπόν μου επήλθεν έφριξαν δε μου τρίχες και σάρκες
16I arose and perceived it not: I looked, and there, was no form before my eyes: but I only heard a breath and a voice, saying,	ανέστην και ουκ επέγνων είδον και ουκ ην μορφή προ οφθαλμών μου αλλ΄ αύραν και φωνήν ήκουον
17What, shall a mortal be pure before the Lord? or a man be blameless in regard to his works?	τι γαρ μη καθαρός έσται βροτός εναντίον του κυρίου η από των έργων αυτού άμεμπτος ανήρ
18Whereas he trust not in his servants, and perceives perverseness in his angels.	ει κατά παίδων αυτού ου πιστεύει κατά δε αγγέλων αυτού σκολιόν τι επενόησε
19But as for them that dwell in houses of clay, of whom we also are formed of the same clay, he smites them like a moth.	τους δε κατοικούντας οικίας πηλίνας εξ ων και αυτοί εκ του αυτού πηλού εσμέν έπαισεν αυτούς σητός τρόπον
20And from the morning to evening they no longer exist: they have perished, because they cannot help themselves.	και από πρωϊθεν έως εσπέρας ουκ εισί παρά το μη δύνασθαι αυτούς εαυτοίς βοηθήσαι απώλοντο
21For he blows upon them, and they are withered: they have perished for lack of wisdom.	συνεξήρε το υπόλειμμα εν αυτοίς απώλοντο παρά το μη έχειν αυτούς σοφίαν

Chapter 5

1But call, if any one will hearken to thee, or if thou shalt see any of the holy angels.	επικάλεσαι δε ει σοι υπακούσεται η ει αγγέλων αγίων όψει
2For wrath destroys the foolish one, and envy slays him that has gone astray.	και γαρ άφρονα αναιρεί οργή πεπλανημένον δε θανατοί ζήλος
3And I have seen foolish ones taking root: but suddenly their habitation was devoured.	εγώ δε εώρακα άφρονας ρίζας βάλλοντας και κατηρασάμην την ευπρέπειαν αυτών παραχρήμα
4Let their children be far from safety, and let them be crushed at the doors of vile men, and let there be no deliverer.	πόρρω γένοιντο οι υιοί αυτών από σωτηρίας και επιτριβήσονται επί θύραις ησσόνων και ουκ έσται ο εξαιρούμενος
5For what they have collected, the just shall eat; but they shall not be delivered out of calamities: let their strength be utterly exhausted.	α γαρ εκείνοι εθέρισαν πεινών φάγεται αυτοί δε προς ενόπλων αρθήσονται εκσιφωνισθείη αυτών η ισχύς
6For labour cannot by any means come out of the earth, nor shall trouble spring out of the mountains:	ου γαρ μη εξέλθη εκ της γης κόπος ουδέ εξ ορέων αναβλαστήσει πόνος
7yet man is born to labour, and even so the vulture's young seek the high places.	αλλά άνθρωπος γεννάται κόπω νεοσσοί δε αετών τα υψηλά πέτονται
8Nevertheless I will beseech the Lord, and will call upon the Lord, the sovereign of all;	ου μην δε αλλά εγώ δεηθήσομαι κυρίου κύριον δε των πάντων δεσπότην επικαλέσομαι
9who does great things and untraceable, glorious things also, and marvellous, of which there is no number:	τον ποιούντα μεγάλα και ανεξιχνίαστα ένδοξά τε και εξαίσια ων ουκ έστιν αριθμός
10who gives rain upon the earth, sending water on the earth:	τον διδόντα υετόν επί την γην αποστέλλοντα ύδωρ επί την υπ΄ ουρανόν
11who exalts the lowly, and raises up them that are lost:	τον ποιούντα ταπεινούς εις ύψος και απολωλότας εξεγείροντα
12frustrating the counsels of the crafty, and their hands shall not perform the truth:	διασκεδάζοντα βουλάς πανούργων και ου ποιήσωσιν αι χείρες αυτών αληθές
13who takes the wise in their wisdom, and subverts the counsel of the crafty	ο καταλαμβάνων σοφούς εν τη φρονήσει βουλήν δε πολυπλόκων εξέστησεν
14In the day darkness shall come upon them, and let them grope in the noon-day even as in the night:	ημέρας συναντήσεται αυτοίς σκότος το δε μεσημβρινόν ψηλαφήσαισαν ίσα νυκτί
15and let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty.	απόλοιντο δε εν πολέμω αδύνατος δε εξέλθοι εκ χειρός δυνάστου
16And let the weak have hope, but the mouth of the unjust be stopped.	είη δε πτωχώ ελπίς αδίκου δε στόμα εμφραχθείη
17But blessed is the man whom the Lord has reproved; and reject not thou the chastening of the Almighty.	μακάριος δε άνθρωπος ον ήλεγξεν ο κύριος νουθέτημα δε παντοκράτορος μη απαναίνου
18for he causes a man to be in pain, and restores him again: he smites, and his hands heal.	αυτός γαρ αλγείν ποιεί και πάλιν αποκαθίστησιν έπαισε και αι χείρες αυτού ιάσαντο
19Six time he shall deliver thee out of distresses: and in the seventh harm shall not touch thee.	εξάκις εξ αναγκών σε εξελείται εν δε τω εβδόμω ου άψηταί σου κακόν
20In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in war he shall free thee from the power of the sword.	εν λιμώ ρύσεταί σε εκ θανάτου εν πολέμω δε εκ χειρός σιδήρου λύσει σε
21He shall hide thee from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not be afraid of coming evils.	από μάστιγος γλώσσης σε κρύψει και ου φοβηθήση από κακών ερχομένων
22Thou shalt laugh at the unrighteous and the lawless: and thou shalt not be afraid of wild beasts.	αδίκων και ανόμων καταγελάση από δε θηρίων αγρίων ου φοβηθήση
23For the wild beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.	θήρες γαρ άγριοι ειρηνεύσουσί σοι
24Then shalt thou know that thy house shall be at peace, and the provision for thy tabernacle shall not fail.	είτα γνώση ότι ειρηνεύσει σου ο οίκος και επισκέψει ωραίοτητά σου και ου αμαρτήση
25And thou shalt know that thy seed shall be abundant; and thy children shall be like the herbage of the field.	γνώση δε ότι πολύ το σπέρμα σου τα δε έκγονά σου έσται ώσπερ το παμβότανον του αγρού
26And thou shalt come to the grave like ripe corn reaped in its season, or as a heap of the corn-flour collected in proper time.	ελεύση δε εν τάφω ώσπερ σίτος ώριμος κατά καιρόν θεριζόμενος η ώσπερ θιμωνία άλωνος καθ΄ ώραν συγκομισθείσα
27Behold, we have thus sought out these matters; these are what we have heard: but do thou reflect with thyself, if thou hast done anything wrong.	ιδού ταύτα ούτως εξιχνιάσαμεν ταύτα εστιν α ακηκόαμεν συ δε γνώθι σεαυτώ ει τι

Chapter 6

1But Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2Oh that one would indeed weigh the wrath that is upon me, and take up my griefs in a balance together!	ει γαρ τις ιστών στήσαί μου την οργήν τας δε οδύνας μου άραι εν ζυγώ ομοθυμαδόν
3And verily they would be heavier than the sand by the seashore: but, as it seems, my words are vain.	και δη άμμου παραλίας βαρυτέρα έσται επί τούτω τα ρήματά μου κατεπατήθησαν
4For the arrows of the Lord are in my body, whose violence drinks up my blood: whenever I am going to speak, they pierce me.	βέλη γαρ του ικανού εν τω σώματί μου εστίν ων ο θυμός αυτών εκπίνει μου το αίμα όταν άρξωμαι λαλείν κεντουσί με
5What then? will the wild ass bray for nothing, if he is not seeking food? or again, will the ox low at the manger, when he has a fodder?	τι γαρ μη διακενής κεκράξεται όνος άγριος αλλ΄ τα σίτα ζητών ει ρήξει φωνήν βους επί φάτνης έχων τα βρώματα
6Shall bread be eaten without salt? or again, is there taste in empty words?	ει βρωθήσεται άρτος άνευ αλός ει έστι γεύμα εν ρήμασι κενοίς
7For my wrath cannot cease; for I perceive my food as the smell of a lion to be loathsome.	ου δύναται γαρ μου παύσασθαι η ψυχή βρόμον γαρ ορώ τα σίτά μου ώσπερ οσμήν λέοντος
8For oh that he would grant my desire, and my petition might come, and the Lord would grant my hope!	ει γαρ δώη και έλθοι μου η αίτησις και την ελπίδα μου δώη ο κύριος
9Let the Lord begin and wound me, but let him not utterly destroy me.	αρξάμενος ο κύριος τρωσάτω εις τέλος δε μη με ανελέτω
10Let the grave be my city, upon the walls of which I have leaped: I will not shrink from it; for I have not denied the holy words of my God.	είη δε μου πόλις τάφος εφ΄ ης επί τειχέων ηλλόμην επ΄ αυτής ου φείσομαι ου γαρ εψευσάμην ρήματα άγια θεού μου
11For what is my strength, that I continue? what is my time, that my soul endures?	τις γαρ μου η ισχύς ότι υπομενώ η τις μου ο χρόνος ότι ανέχεταί μου η ψυχή
12Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?	μη ισχύς λίθων η ισχύς μου η αι σάρκες μου εισί χάλκειαι
13Or have I not trusted in him? but help is far from me.	η ουκ επ΄ αυτώ επεποίθειν βοήθεια δε απ΄ εμού απέστη
14Mercy has rejected me; and the visitation of the Lord has disregarded me.	απείπατό με έλεος επισκοπή δε κυρίου υπερείδε με
15My nearest relations have not regarded me; they have passed me by like a failing brook, or like a wave.	ου προσείδόν με οι αδελφοί μου ώσπερ χειμάρρους εκλείπων η ώσπερ κύμα παρήλθόν με
16They who used to reverence me, now have come against me like snow or congealed ice.	οίτινές με διευλαβούντο νυν επιπεπτώκασί μου ώσπερ χιών η κρύσταλλος πεπηγώς
17When it has melted at the approach of heat, it is not known what it was.	καθώς τακείσα θέρμης γενομένης ουκ επεγνώσθη όπου ην
18Thus I also have been deserted of all; and I am ruined, and become an outcast.	ούτως καγώ κατελείφθην υπό πάντων απωλόμην δε και έξοικος εγενόμην
19Behold the ways of the Thaemanites, ye that mark the paths of the Sabaeans.	ίδετε οδούς Θαιμανών ατραπούς Σαβών οι διορώντες
20They too that trust in cities and riches shall come to shame.	και αισχύνην οφειλήσουσιν οι επί πόλεσι και χρήμασι πεποιθότες
21But ye also have come to me without pity; so that beholding my wound ye are afraid.	ατάρ δε και υμείς επέβητέ μοι ανελεημόνως ώστε ιδόντες το εμόν τραύμα φοβήθητε
22What? have I made any demand of you? or do I ask for strength from you,	τι γαρ μήτι υμάς ήτησα η της παρ΄ υμών ισχύος επιδέομαι
23to deliver me from enemies, or to rescue me from the hand of the mighty ones?	ώστε σώσαί με εξ εχθρών η εκ χειρός δυναστών ρύσασθαί με
24Teach ye me, and I will be silent: if in anything I have erred, tell me.	διδάξατέ με εγώ δε κωφεύσω ει πεπλάνημαι φράσατέ μοι
25But as it seems, the words of a true man are vain, because I do not ask strength of you.	αλλ΄ ως έοικε φαύλα αληθινού ρήματα ου γαρ παρ΄ υμών ισχύν αιτούμαι
26Neither will your reproof cause me to cease my words, for neither will I endure the sound of your speech.	ουδέ ο έλεγχος υμών ρήμασί με παύσει ουδέ γαρ υμών φθέγμα ρήματος ανέξομαι
27Even because ye attack the fatherless, and insult your friend.	πλην ότι επ΄ ορφανώ επιπίπτετε ενάλλεσθε δε επί φίλω υμών
28But now, having looked upon your countenances, I will not lie.	νυνί δε εισβλέψας εις πρόσωπα υμών ου ψεύσομαι
29Sit down now, and let there not be unrighteousness; and unite again with the just.	καθίσατε δη και μη είη άδικον και πάλιν τω δικαίω συνέρχεσθε
30For there is no injustice in my tongue; and does not my throat meditate understanding?	ου γαρ εστιν εν γλώσση μου άδικον η ουχί ο λάρυγξ μου μελετά σύνεσιν

Chapter 7

1Is not the life of man upon earth a state of trial? and his existence as that of a hireling by the day?	πότερον ουχί πειρατήριόν εστιν ο βίος ανθρώπου επί της γης και ώσπερ μισθίου αυθημερινού η ζωή αυτού
2Or as a servant that fears his master, and one who has grasped a shadow? or as a hireling waiting for his pay?	η ώσπερ θεράπων δεδοικώς τον κύριον αυτού και τετευχώς σκιάς η ώσπερ μισθωτός αναμένων τον μισθόν αυτού
3So have I also endured months of vanity, and nights of pain have been appointed me.	ούτως καγώ υπέμεινα μήνας κενούς νύκτες δε οδυνών δεδομέναι μοι εισιν
4Whenever I lie down, I say, When will it be day? and whenever I rise up, again I say when will it be evening? and I am full of pains from evening to morning.	εάν κοιμηθώ λέγω πότε η ημέρα ως δ΄ αν αναστώ πάλιν πότε εσπέρα πλήρης δε γίνομαι οδυνών απ΄ εσπέρας έως πρωϊ
5And my body is covered with loathsome worms; and I waste away, scraping off clods of dust from my eruption.	φύρεται δε μου το σώμα εν σαπρία σκωλήκων τήκω δε βώλακας γης από ιχώρος ξύων
6And my life is lighter than a word, and has perished in vain hope.	ο δε βίος μου εστίν ελαφρότερος λαλιάς απόλωλε δε εν κενή ελπίδι
7Remember then that my life is breath, and mine eye shalt not yet again see good.	μνήσθητι ουν ότι πνεύμά μου η ζωή και ουκ επανελεύσεται οφθαλμός μου ιδείν αγαθόν
8The eye of him that sees me shall not see me again: thine eyes are upon me, and I am no more.	ου περιβλέψεται οφθαλμός ορώντός με οι οφθαλμοί σου εν εμοί και ουκ έτι
9I am as a cloud that is cleared away from the sky: for if a man go down to the grave, he shall not come up again:	ώσπερ νέφος αποκαθαρθέν απ΄ ουρανού εάν γαρ άνθρωπος καταβή εις άδην ουκ ου αναβή
10and he shall surely not return to his own house, neither shall his place know him any more.	ουδ΄ ου επιστρέψη εις τον ίδιον οίκον ουδ΄ ου επιγνώ αυτόν έτι ο τόπος αυτού
11Then neither will I refrain my mouth: I will speak being in distress; being in anguish I will disclose the bitterness of my soul.	ατάρ ουν ουδέ εγώ φείσομαι τω στόματί μου λαλήσω εν ανάγκη ων του πνεύματός μου ανοίξω πικρία ψυχής μου συνεχόμενος
12Am I a sea, or a serpent, that thou hast set a watch over me?	πότερον θάλασσά ειμι η δράκων ότι κατέταξας επ΄ εμέ φυλακήν
13I said that my bed should comfort me, and I would privately counsel with myself on my couch.	είπα ότι παρακαλέσει με η κλίνη μου ανοίσω δε προς εμαυτόν ιδία λόγον τη κοίτη μου
14Thou scarest me with dreams, and dost terrify me with visions.	εκφοβείς με ενυπνίοις και εν οράμασί με καταπλήσσεις
15Thou wilt separate life from my spirit; and yet keep my bones from death.	απαλλάξεις από πνεύματός μου την ψυχήν μου από δε θανάτου τα οστά μου
16For I shall not live for ever, that I should patiently endure: depart from me, for my life is vain.	ου γαρ εις τον αιώνα ζήσομαι ίνα μακροθυμήσω απόστα απ΄ εμού κενός γαρ μου ο βίος
17For what is man, that thou hast magnified him? or that thou givest heed to him?	τι γαρ εστιν άνθρωπος ότι εμεγάλυνας αυτόν η ότι προσέχεις τον νουν εις αυτόν
18Wilt thou visit him till the morning, and judge him till the time of rest?	η επισκοπήν αυτού ποιήση έως τοπρωϊ και εις ανάπαυσιν αυτον κρινείς
19How long dost thou not let me alone, nor let me go, until I shall swallow down my spittle?	έως τίνος ουκ εάς με ουδέ προϊη με έως αν καταπίω τον πτύελόν μου εν οδύνη
20If I have sinned, what shall I be able to do, O thou that understandest the mind of men? why hast thou made me as thine accuser, and why am I a burden to thee?	ει εγώ ήμαρτον τι δύναμαί σοι πράξαι ο επιστάμενος τον νουν των ανθρώπων διατί έθου με κατεντευκτήν σου ειμί δε επί σοι φορτίον
21Why hast thou not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? but now I shall depart to the earth; and in the morning I am no more.	και διατί ουκ εποιήσω της ανομίας μου λήθην και καθαρισμόν της αμαρτίας μου νυνί δε εις γην απελεύσομαι ορθρίζων δε ουκέτι ειμί

Chapter 8

1Then Baldad the Sauchite answered, and said,	υπολαβών δε Βαλδάδ ο Σαυχίτης λέγει
2How long wilt thou speak these things, how long shall the breath of thy mouth be abundant in words?	μέχρι τίνος λαλήσεις ταύτα πνεύμα πολύρημον του στόματός σου
3Will the Lord be unjust when he judges; or will he that has made all things pervert justice?	μη ο κύριος αδικήσει κρίνων η ο τα πάντα ποιήσας ταράξει το δίκαιον
4If thy sons have sinned before him, he has cast them away because of their transgression.	ει οι υιοί σου ήμαρτον εναντίον αυτού απέστειλεν εν χειρί ανομίας αυτών
5But be thou early in prayer to the Lord Almighty.	συ δε όρθριζε προς κύριον παντοκράτορα δεόμενος
6If thou art pure and true, he will hearken to thy supplication, and will restore to thee the habitation of righteousness.	ει καθαρός ει και αληθινός δεήσεως επακούσεταί σου αποκαταστήσει δε σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης
7Though then thy beginning should be small, yet thy end should be unspeakably great.	έσται ουν τα μεν πρώτά σου ολίγα τα δε έσχατά σου αμύθητα
8For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers:	επερώτησον γαρ γενεάν πρώτην εξιχνίασον δε κατά γένος πατέρων
9(for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:)	χθιζοί γαρ εσμεν και ουκ οίδαμεν σκιά γαρ ημών εστιν ο βίος επί της γης
10shall not these teach thee, and report to thee, and bring out words from their heart?	η ουχ ούτοί σε διδάξουσι και αναγγελούσι και εκ καρδίας εξάξουσι ρήματα
11Does the rush flourish without water, or shall the flag grow up without moisture?	μη θάλλει πάπυρος άνευ ύδατος η υψωθήσεται βούτομον άνευ πότου
12When it is yet on the root, and though it has not been cut down, does not any herb wither before it has received moisture?	έτι ον επί ρίζης και ου θερισθή προ του πιείν πάσα βοτάνη ουχί ξηρανθήσεται
13Thus then shall be the end of all that forget the Lord: for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.	ούτως τοίνυν έσται τα έσχατα πάντων των επιλανθανομένων του κυρίου ελπίς γαρ ασεβούς απολείται
14For his house shall be without inhabitants, and his tent shall prove a spider's web.	αοίκητος γαρ αυτού έσται ο οίκος ως αράχνη δε αυτού αποβήσεται η σκηνή
15If he should prop up his house, it shall not stand: and when he has taken hold of it, it shall not remain.	εάν υπερείση την οικίαν αυτού ου στη περιδραξαμένου δε αυτού ου υπομείνη
16For it is moist under the sun, and his branch shall come forth out of his dung-heap.	υγρός γαρ εστιν υπό ηλίου και εκ σαπρίας αυτού ο ράδαμνος αυτού εξελεύσεται
17He lies down upon a gathering of stones, and shall live in the mist of flints.	επί συναγωγήν λίθων κοιμάται εν δε μέσω χαλίκων ζήσεται
18If God should destroy him, his place shall deny him. Hast thou not seen such things,	εάν δε καταπίη ο τόπος ψεύσεται αυτόν ουχ εώρακας τοιαύτα
19that such is the overthrow of the ungodly? and out of the earth another shall grow.	ότι καταστροφή ασεβούς τοιαύτη εκ δε γης άλλον αναβλαστήσει
20For the Lord will by no means reject the harmless man; but he will not receive any gift of the ungodly.	ο γαρ κύριος ου αποποιήσηται τον άκακον παν δε δώρον ασεβούς ου δέξεται
21But he will fill with laughter the mouth of the sincere, and their lips with thanksgiving.	αληθινών δε στόμα εμπλήσει γέλωτος τα δε χείλη αυτών εξομολογήσεως
22But their adversaries shall clothe themselves with shame; and the habitation of the ungodly shall perish.	οι δε εχθροί αυτών ενδύσονται αισχύνην δίαιτα δε ασεβούς ουκ έσται

Chapter 9

1Then Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2I know of a truth that it is so: for how shall a mortal man be just before the Lord?	επ΄ αληθείας οίδα ότι ούτως εστί πως γαρ έσται δίκαιος βροτός παρά κυρίω
3For if he would enter into judgment with him, God would not hearken to him, so that he should answer to one of his charges of a thousand.	εάν γαρ βούληται κριθήναι αυτώ ου υπακούση αυτώ ίνα μη αντείπη προς ένα λόγον αυτού εκ χιλιών
4For he is wise in mind, and mighty, and great: who has hardened himself against him and endured?	σοφός γαρ εστι διανοία κραταιός τε και μέγας τις σκληρός γενόμενος εναντίον αυτού και ειρήνευσεν
5Who wears out the mountains, and men know it not: who overturns them in anger.	ο παλαιών όρη και ουκ οίδασιν ο καταστρέφων αυτά οργή
6Who shakes the earth under heaven from its foundations, and its pillars totter.	ο σείων την υπ΄ ουρανόν εκ θεμελίων οι δε στύλοι αυτής σαλεύονται
7Who commands the sun, and it rises not; and he seals up the stars.	ο λέγων τω ηλίω και ουκ ανατέλλει κατά δε άστρων κατασφραγίζει
8Who alone has stretched out the heavens, and walks on the sea as on firm ground.	ο τανύσας τον ουρανόν μόνος και περιπατών ως επ΄ εδάφους επί θαλάσσης
9Who makes Pleias, and Hesperus, and Arcturus, and the chambers of the south.	ο ποιών Πλειάδα και Έσπερον και Αρκτούρον και ταμεία νότου
10Who does great and unsearchable things; glorious also and excellent things, innumerable.	ο ποιών μεγάλα και ανεξιχνίαστα ένδοξά τε και εξαίσια ων ουκ έστιν αριθμός
11If ever he should go beyond me, I shall not see him: if he should pass by me, neither thus have I known it.	εάν υπερβή με ου ίδω και εάν παρέλθη με ουδ΄ ως έγνων
12If he would take away, who shall turn him back? or who shall say to him, What hast thou done?	εάν απαλλάξη τις αποστρέψει η τις ερεί αυτώ τι εποίησας
13For if he has turned away his anger, the whales under heaven have stooped under him.	ο θεός ου αναπόστρεπτος η οργή υπ΄ αυτού δε εκάμφθησαν κήτη τα υπ΄ ουρανόν
14Oh then that he would hearken to me, or judge my cause.	εάν δε μου υπακούσεται η διακρίνει τα ρήματά μου
15For though I be righteous, he will not hearken to me: I will intreat his judgment.	εάν τε γαρ δίκαιος ω ουκ εισακούσεταί μου του κρίματος αυτού δεηθήσομαι
16And if I should call and he should not hearken, I cannot believe that he has listened to my voice.	εάν δε καλέσω και υπακούση ου πιστεύω ότι εισακήκοέ μου της φωνής
17Let him not crush me with a dark storm: but he has made by bruises many without cause.	μη γνόφω με εκτρίψη πολλά δε μου τα συντρίμματα πεποίηκε διακενής
18For he suffers me not to take breath, but he has filled me with bitterness.	ουκ εά γαρ με αναπνεύσαι ενέπλησε δε με πικρίας
19For indeed he is strong in power: who then shall resist his judgment?	ότι μεν γαρ ισχύϊ κρατεί τις ουν κρίματι αυτού αντιστήσεται
20For though I should seem righteous, my mouth will be profane: and though I should seem blameless, I shall be proved perverse.	εάν δε ω δίκαιος το στόμα μου ασεβήσει εάν δε ω άμεμπτος σκολιός αποβήσομαι
21For even if I have sinned, I know it not in my soul: but my life is taken away.	είτε γαρ ησέβησα ουκ οίδα τη ψυχή πλην αφαίρειταί μου η ζωή
22Wherefore I said, Wrath slays the great and mighty man.	διό είπον μέγαν και δυνάστην απολλύει η οργή
23For the worthless die, but the righteous are laughed to scorn.	ότι φαύλοι εν θανάτω εξαισίω αλλά δίκαιοι καταγελώνται
24For they are delivered into the hands of the unrighteous man: he covers the faces of the judges of the earth: but if it be not he, who is it?	παραδέδονται γαρ εις χείρας ασεβούς πρόσωπα κριτών αυτής συγκαλύπτει ει αυτός τις εστίν
25But my life is swifter than a post: my days have fled away, and they knew it not.	ο δε βίος μου εστίν ελαφρότερος δρομέως απέδρασαν και ουκ είδοσαν
26Or again, is there a trace of their path left by ships? or is there one of the flying eagle as it seeks its prey?	η και έστι ναυσίν ίχνος οδού η αετού πετομένου ζητούντος βοράν
27And if I should say, I will forget to speak, I will bow down my face and groan;	εάν τε γαρ είπω επιλήσομαι λαλών συγκύψας τω προσώπω στενάξω
28I quake in all my limbs, for I know that thou wilt not leave me alone as innocent.	σείομαι πάσι τοις μέλεσιν οίδα γαρ ότι ουκ αθώόν με εάσεις
29But since I am ungodly, why have I not died?	επειδή δε ειμί ασεβής εις τι τούτο μάτην κοπιώ
30For if I should wash myself with snow, and purge myself with pure hands,	εάν γαρ απολούσωμαι χιόνι και αποκαθάρωμαι χερσί καθαραίς
31thou hadst thoroughly plunged me in filth, and my garment had abhorred me.	ικανώς εν ρύπω με έβαψας εβδελύξατο δε με η στολή
32For thou art not man like me, with whom I could contend, that we might come together to judgment.	ου γαρ ει άνθρωπος κατ΄ εμέ ω αντικρινούμαι ίνα έλθωμεν ομοθυμαδόν εις κρίσιν
33Would that he our mediator were present, and a reprover, and one who should hear the cause between both.	είγε ην ο μεσίτης ημών και ελέγχων και διακούων αμαμέσον αμφοτέρων
34Let him remove his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:	απαλλαξάτω απ΄ εμού την ράβδον ο δε φόβος αυτού μη με στροβείτω
35so shall I not be afraid, but I will speak: for I am not thus conscious of guilt.	και ου φοβηθώ αλλά λαλήσω ου γαρ ούτως συνεπίσταμαι

Chapter 10

1Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul.	κάμνων τη ψυχή μου στένων επαφήσω επ΄ εμαυτόν τα ρήματά μου λαλήσω πικρία ψυχής μου συνεχόμενος
2And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore hast thou thus judged me?	και ερώ προς κύριον μη με ασεβείν δίδασκε και διατί με ούτως έκρινας
3Is it good before thee if I be unrighteous? for thou hast disowned the work of thy hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly.	η καλόν σοι εάν αδικήσω ότι απείπω έργα χειρών σου βουλή δε ασεβών προσέσχες
4Or dost thou see as a mortal sees? or wilt thou look as a man sees?	η ώσπερ βροτός ορά καθοράς η καθώς ορά άνθρωπος βλέψη
5Or is thy life human, or thy years the years of a man,	η ο βίος σου ανθρώπινός εστιν η τα έτη σου ανδρός
6that thou hast enquired into mine iniquity, and searched out my sins?	ότι ανεζήτησας τας ανομίας μου και τας αμαρτίας μου εξιχνίασας
7For thou knowest that I have not committed iniquity: but who is he that can deliver out of thy hands?	οίδας γαρ ότι ουκ ησέβησα αλλά τις εστίν ο εκ χειρών σου εξαιρούμενος
8Thy hands have formed me and made me; afterwards thou didst change thy mind, and smite me.	αι χείρες σου έπλασάν με και εποίησάν με μετά ταύτα μεταβαλών με έπαισας
9Remember that thou hast made me as clay, and thou dost turn me again to earth.	μνήσθητι ότι πηλόν με έπλασας εις δε γην με πάλιν αποστρέφεις
10Hast thou not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?	η ουχ ώσπερ γάλα με ήμελξας ετύρωσας δε με ίσα τυρώ
11And thou didst clothe me with skin and flesh, and frame me with bones and sinews.	δέρμα και κρέας με ενέδυσας οστέοις δε και νευροίς με ενειρας
12And thou didst bestow upon me life and mercy, and thy oversight has preserved my spirit.	ζωήν δε και έλεος έθου παρ΄ εμοί η δε επισκοπή σου εφύλαξέ μου το πνεύμα
13Having these things in thyself, I know that thou canst do all things; for nothing is impossible with thee.	ταύτα έχων εν σεαυτώ οίδα ότι πάντα δύνασαι αδυνατεί δε σοι ουδέν
14And if I should sin, thou watchest me; and thou hast not cleared me from iniquity.	εάν τε γαρ αμάρτω φυλάσσεις με από δε ανομίας ουκ αθώόν με πεποίηκας
15Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonour.	εάν τε γαρ ασεβής ω οίμοι εάν δε ω δίκαιος ου δύναμαι άραι κεφαλήν πλήρης γαρ ατιμίας ειμί
16For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again thou hast changed and art terribly destroying me;	αγρεύομαι γαρ ώσπερ λέων εις σφαγήν πάλιν δε μεταβαλών δεινώς με ολέκεις
17renewing against me my torture: and thou hast dealt with me in great anger, and thou hast brought trials upon me.	επανακαινίζων επ΄ εμέ την έτασίν μου οργή δε μεγάλη μοι εχρήσω επήγαγες δε επ΄ εμέ πειρατήρια
18Why then didst thou bring me out of the womb? and why did I not die, and no eye see me,	ινατί ουν εν κοιλίας με εξήγαγες και ουκ απέθανον οφθαλμός δε με ουκ είδε
19and I become as if I had not been? for why was I not carried from the womb to the grave?	και ώσπερ ουκ ων εγενόμην διατί γαρ εκ γαστρός εις μνήμα ουκ απηλλάγην
20Is not the time of my life short? suffer me to rest a little,	η ουκ ολίγος εστίν ο χρόνος του βίου μου έασόν με αναπαύσασθαι μικρόν
21before I go whence I shall not return, to a land of darkness and gloominess;	προ του με πορευθήναι όθεν ουκ αναστρέψω εις γην σκοτεινήν και γνοφεράν
22to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither can any one see the life of mortals.	εις γην σκότους αιωνίου ου ουκ έστι φέγγος ουδέ οράν ζωήν βροτών

Chapter 11

1Then Sophar the Minaean answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Σωφάρ ο Μιναίος λέγει
2He that speaks much, should also hear on the other side: or does the fluent speaker think himself to be righteous? blessed is the short lived offspring of woman.	ο τα πολλά λέγων και αντακούσεται η και ο εύλαλος οίεται είναι δίκαιος ευλογημένος γεννητός γυναικός ολιγόβιος
3Be not a speaker of many words; for is there none to answer thee?	μη πολύς εν ρήμασι γίνου ου γαρ εστιν ο αντικρινόμενός σοι
4For say not, I am pure in my works, and blameless before him.	μη γαρ λέγε ότι καθαρός ειμι τοις έργοις και άμεμπτος εναντίον αυτού
5But oh that the Lord would speak to thee, and open his lips to thee!	αλλά πως αν ο κύριος λαλήσαι προς σε και ανοίξει χείλη αυτού μετά σου
6Then shall he declare to thee the power of wisdom; for it shall be double of that which is with thee: and then shalt thou know, that a just recompence of thy sins has come to thee from the Lord.	είτα αναγγελεί σοι δύναμιν σοφίας ότι διπλούς έσται τω κατά σε και τότε γνώση ότι άξιά σοι απέβη παρά κυρίου ων ημάρτηκας
7Wilt thou find out the traces of the Lord? or hast thou come to the end of that which the Almighty has made?	η ίχνος κυρίου ευρήσεις η εις τα έσχατα αφίκου α εποίησεν ο παντοκράτωρ
8Heaven is high; and what wilt thou do? and there are deeper things than those in hell; what dost thou know?	υψηλός ο ουρανός και τι ποιήσεις βαθύτερα δε των εν άδου τι οίδας
9Or longer than the measure of the earth, or the breadth of the sea.	η μακρότερα μέτρου γης η εύρους θαλάσσης
10And if he should overthrow all things, who will say to him, What hast thou done?	εάν δε καταστρέψη τα πάντα τις ερεί αυτώ τι εποίησας
11For he knows the works of transgressors; and when he sees wickedness, he will not overlook it.	αυτός γαρ οίδεν έργα ανόμων ιδών δε άτοπα ου παρόψεται
12But man vainly buoys himself up with words; and a mortal born of woman is like an ass in the desert.	άνθρωπος δε άλλως θρασύνεται λόγοις βροτός δε γεννητός γυναικός ίσα όνω ερημίτη
13For if thou hast made thine heart pure, and liftest up thine hands towards him;	ει γαρ συ καθαράν έθου την καρδίαν σου υπτιάζεις δε χείρας προς αυτόν
14if there is any iniquity in thy hands, put if far from thee, and let not unrighteousness lodge in thy habitation.	ει άνομόν τι εστιν εν χερσί σου πόρρω ποίησον αυτό αδικία δε εν διαίτη σου μη αυλισθήτω
15For thus shall thy countenance shine again, as pure water; and thou shalt divest thyself of uncleanness, and shalt not fear.	ούτως γαρ αναλάμψει σου το πρόσωπον ώσπερ ύδωρ καθαρόν εκδύση δε ρύπον και ου φοβηθήση
16And thou shalt forget trouble, as a wave that has passed by; and thou shalt not be scared.	και τον κόπον επιλήση ώσπερ κύμα παρελθόν και ου πτοηθήση
17And thy prayer shall be as the morning star, and life shall arise to thee as from the noonday.	η δε ευχή σου ώσπερ Εωσφόρος εκ δε μεσημβρίας ανατελεί σοι ζωή
18And thou shalt be confident, because thou hast hope; and peace shall dawn to thee from out of anxiety and care.	πεποιθώς τε έση ότι εστί σοι ελπίς εκ δε μερίμνης και φροντίδος αναφανείταί σοι ειρήνη
19For thou shalt be at ease, and there shall be no one to fight against thee; and many shall charge, and make supplication to thee.	ησυχάσεις γαρ και ουκ έσται ο πολεμών σε μεταβαλόμενοι δε πολλοί σου δεηθήσονται
20But safety shall fail them; for their hope is destruction, and the eyes of the ungodly shall waste away.	σωτηρία δε αυτούς απολείψει η γαρ ελπίς αυτών απώλεια οφθαλμοί δε ασεβών τακήσονται

Chapter 12

1And Job answered and said,	υπολαβών Ιωβ λέγει
2So then ye alone are men, and wisdom shall die with you?	είτα υμείς εστέ άνθρωποι η μεθ΄ υμών τελευτήσει σοφία
3But I also have a heart as well as you.	καμοί μεν καρδία καθ΄ υμάς εστι
4For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery.	δίκαιος γαρ ανήρ και άμεμπτος εγεννήθη εις χλεύασμα
5For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however any one trust that, being evil, he shall be held guiltless,	εις χρόνον γαρ τακτόν ητοίμαστο πεσείν υπό άλλων οίκους τε αυτού εκπορθείσθαι υπό ανόμων ου μην δε αλλά μηθείς πεποιθέτω πονηρός ων αθώος έσεσθαι
6even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition made of them.	όσοι παροργίζουσι τον κύριον ως ουχί και έτασις αυτών έσται
7But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to thee; and the birds of the air, if they may declare to thee.	αλλά δη ερώτησον τετράποδα εάν σοι είπωσιν η πετεινά του ουρανού εάν σοι απαγγείλωσιν
8Tell the earth, if it may speak to thee: and the fishes of the sea shall explain to thee.	εκδιήγησαι δε γη εάν σοι φράση και εξηγήσονταί σοι οι ιχθύες της θαλάσσης
9Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them?	τις ουκ έγνω εν πάσι τούτοις ότι χειρ κυρίου εποίησε ταύτα
10Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand, and the breath of every man.	ει εν χειρί αυτού η ψυχή πάντων των ζώντων και πνεύμα παντός ανθρώπου
11For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats.	ους μεν γαρ ρήματα διακρίνει λάρυγξ δε σίτα γεύεται
12In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge.	εν πολλώ χρόνω σοφία εν δε πολλώ βίω επιστήμη
13With him are wisdom and power, with him counsel and understanding.	παρ΄ αυτώ σοφία και δύναμις αυτώ βουλή και σύνεσις
14If he should cast down, who will build up? if he should shut up against man, who shall open?	εάν καταβάλη τις οικοδομήσει εάν κλείση κατά ανθρώπων τις ανοίξει
15If he should withhold the water, he will dry the earth: and if he should let it loose, he overthrows and destroys it.	εάν κωλύση το ύδωρ ξηρανεί την γην εάν δε επαφή απώλεσεν αυτήν καταστρέψας
16With him are strength and power: he has knowledge and understanding.	παρ΄ αυτώ κράτος και ισχύς αυτώ επιστήμη και σύνεσις
17He leads counsellors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth.	διάγων βουλευτάς αιχμαλώτους κριτάς δε γης εξέστησε
18He seats kings upon thrones, and girds their loins with a girdle.	καθιζάνων βασιλείς επί θρόνους και περιέδησε ζώνην οσφύας αυτών
19He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth.	εξαποστέλλων ιερείς αιχμαλώτους δυνάστας δε γης κατέστρεψε
20He changes the lips of the trusty, and he knows the understanding of the elders.	διαλλάσσων χείλη πιστών σύνεσιν δε πρεσβυτέρων έγνω
21He pours dishonour upon princes, and heals the lowly.	εκχέων ατιμίας επ΄ άρχοντας ταπεινούς δε ιάσατο
22Revealing deep things out of darkness: and he has brought into light the shadow of death.	ανακαλύπτων βαθέα εκ σκότους εξήγαγε δε εις φως σκιάν θανάτου
23Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them away.	πλανών έθνη και απολλύων αυτά καταστρωννύων έθνη και καθοδηγών αυτά
24Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth: and he causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, saying,	διαλλάσσων καρδίας αρχόντων γης επλάνησε δε αυτούς εν οδώ η ουκ ήδεισαν
25Let them grope in darkness, and let there be no light, and let them wander as a drunken man.	ψηλαφήσαισαν σκότος και μη φως πλανηθείησαν δε ώσπερ ο μεθύων

Chapter 13

1Behold, mine eye has seen these things, and mine ear has heard them.	ιδού ταύτα εωρακέ μου ο οφθαλμός και ακήκοε το ους μου
2And I know all that ye too know; and I have not less understanding than you.	και οίδα όσα και υμείς επίστασθε και ουκ ασυνετώτερός ειμι υμών
3Nevertheless I will speak to the Lord, and I will reason before him, if he will.	ου μην δε αλλ εγώ προς κύριον λαλήσω ελέγξω δε εναντίον αυτού εάν βούληται
4But ye are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases.	υμείς δε εστέ ιατροί άδικοι και ιαταί κακών πάντες
5But would that ye were silent, and it would be wisdom to you in the end.	είη δε υμίν κωφεύσαι και αποβήσεται υμίν εις σοφίαν
6But hear ye the reasoning of my mouth, and attend to the judgment of my lips.	ακούσατε έλεγχον στόματός μου κρίσιν δε χειλέων μου προσέχετε
7Do ye not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before him?	πότερον ου κατέναντι κυρίου λαλείτε έναντι δε αυτού φθέγγεσθε δόλον
8Or will ye draw back? nay do, ye yourselves be judges.	η υποστελείσθε υμείς δε αυτοί κρίται γίνεσθε
9For it were well if he would thoroughly search you: for though doing all things in your power ye should attach yourselves to him,	καλόν γε εάν εξιχνιάση υμάς ει γαρ τα πάντα ποιούντες προστεθήσεσθε αυτώ
10he will not reprove you at all the less: but if moreover ye should secretly respect persons,	ουδέν τι ήσσον ελέγξει υμάς ει δε και κρυφή πρόσωπα θαυμάσετε
11shall not his whirlpool sweep you round, and terror from him fall upon you?	πότερον ουχ η δίνα αυτού στροβήσει υμάς φόβος δε παρ΄ αυτού επιπεσείται υμίν
12And your glorying shall prove in the end to you like ashes, and your body like a body of clay.	αποβήσεται δε υμών το γαυρίαμα ίσον σποδώ το δε σώμα πήλινον
13Be silent, that I may speak, and cease from mine anger,	κωφεύσατε ίνα λαλήσω και αναπαύσωμαι θυμού
14while I may take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand.	αναλαβών τας σάρκας μου τοις οδούσι ψυχήν δε μου θήσω εν χειρί μου
15Though the Mighty One should lay hand upon me, forasmuch as he has begun, verily I will speak, and plead before him.	εάν με χειρώσηται ο δυνάστης επεί και ήρκται η μην λαλήσω και ελέγξω εναντίον αυτού
16And this shall turn to me for salvation; for fraud shall have no entrance before him.	και τούτό μοι αποβήσεται εις σωτηρίαν ου γαρ εναντίον αυτού δόλος εισελεύσεται
17Hear, hear ye my words, for I will declare in your hearing.	ακούσατε ακούσατε τα ρήματά μου αναγγελώ γαρ υμών ακουόντων
18Behold, I am near my judgment: I know that I shall appear evidently just.	ιδού εγώ εγγύς ειμι του κρίματός μου οίδα εγώ ότι δίκαιος αναφανούμαι
19For who is he that shall plead with me, that I should now be silent, and expire?	τις γαρ εστιν ο κριθησόμενός μοι ότι νυν κωφεύσω και εκλείψω
20But grant me two things: then I will not hide myself from thy face.	δυείν δε μοι χρήση τότε από του προσώπου σου ου κρυβήσομαι
21Withhold thine hand from me: and let not thy fear terrify me.	την χείρα απ΄ εμού απέχου και ο φόβος σου μη με καταπλησσέτω
22Then shalt thou call, and I will hearken to thee: or thou shalt speak, and I will give thee an answer.	είτα καλέσεις εγώ δε σοι υποακούσομαι η λαλήσεις εγώ δε σοι δώσω ανταπόκρισιν
23How many are my sins and my transgressions? teach me what they are.	πόσαι εισίν αι αμαρτίαι μου και αι ανομίαι μου δίδαξόν με τίνες εισί
24Wherefore hidest thou thyself from me, and deemest me thine enemy?	διατί απ΄ εμού κρύπτη ήγησαι δε με υπεναντίον σου
25Wilt thou be startled at me, as at a leaf shaken by the wind? or wilt thou set thyself against me as against grass borne upon the breeze?	η ως φύλλον κινούμενον υπό ανέμου ευλαβηθήση η ως χόρτω φερομένω υπό πνεύματος αντίκεισαί μοι
26for thou hast written evil things against me, and thou hast compassed me with the sins of my youth.	ότι κατέγραψας κατ΄ εμού κακά περιέθηκας δε μοι νεότητος αμαρτίας
27And thou hast placed my foot in the stocks; and thou hast watched all my works, and hast penetrated my heels.	έθου δε μου τον πόδα εν κωλύματι εφύλαξας δε μου πάντα τα έργα εις δε ρίζας ποδών μου αφίκου
28I am as that which waxes old like a bottle, or like a moth-eaten garment.	ο παλαιούται ίσα ασκώ η ώσπερ ιμάτιον σητόβρωτον

Chapter 14

1For a mortal born of a woman is short lived, and full of wrath.	βροτός γαρ γεννητός γυναικός ολιγόβιος και πλήρης οργής
2Or he falls like a flower that has bloomed; and he departs like a shadow, and cannot continue.	η ώσπερ άνθος ανθήσαν εξέπεσεν απέδρα δε ώσπερ σκιά και ου στη
3Hast thou not taken account even of him, and caused him to enter into judgment before thee?	ουχί και τούτου λόγον εποιήσω και τούτον εποίησας εισελθείν ενώπιόν σου εν κρίματι
4For who shall be pure from uncleanness? not even one;	τις γαρ καθαρός έσται από ρύπου αλλ΄ ουδείς
5if even his life should be but one day upon the earth: and his months are numbered by him: thou hast appointed him for a time, and he shall by no means exceed it.	εάν και μία ημέρα ο βίος αυτού επί της γης αριθμητοί δε μήνες αυτού παρά σοι εις χρόνον έθου και ου υπερβή
6Depart from him, that he may be quiet, and take pleasure in his life, though as a hireling.	απόστα απ΄ αυτού ίνα ησυχάση και ευδοκήσει τον βίον ώσπερ ο μισθωτός
7For there is hope for a tree, even if it should be cut down, that it shall blossom again, and its branch shall not fail.	έστι γαρ δένδρω ελπίς εάν γαρ εκκοπή έτι επανθήσει και ο ράδαμνος αυτού ου εκλείπη
8For though its root should grow old in the earth, and its stem die in the rock;	εάν γαρ γηράση εν γη η ρίζα αυτού εν δε πέτρα τελευτήση το στέλεχος αυτού
9it will blossom from the scent of water, and will produce a crop, as one newly planted.	από οσμής ύδατος ανθήσει ποιήσει δε θερισμόν ώσπερ νεόφυτον
10But a man that has died is utterly gone; and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more.	ανήρ δε τελευτήσας ώχετο πεσών δε βροτός ουκ έτι
11For the sea wastes in length of time, and a river fails and is dried up.	χρόνω γαρ σπανίζεται θάλασσα ποταμός δε ερημωθείς εξηράνθη
12And man that has lain down in death shall certainly not rise again till the heaven be dissolved, and they shall not awake from their sleep.	άνθρωπος δε κοιμηθείς ου μην αναστή έως αν ο ουρανός ου συρραφή και ουκ εξυπνισθήσονται εξ ύπνου αυτών
13For oh that thou hadst kept me in the grave, and hadst hidden me until thy wrath should cease, and thou shouldest set me a time in which thou wouldest remember me!	ει γαρ όφελον εν άδη με εφύλαξας έκρυψας δε με έως αν παύσηταί σου η οργή και τάξη μοι χρόνον εν ω μνείαν μου ποιήση
14For if a man should die, shall he live again, having accomplished the days of his life? I will wait till I exist again?	εάν γαρ αποθάνη άνθρωπος ζήσεται συντελέσας τας ημέρας του βίου αυτού υπομενώ έως πάλιν γένωμαι
15Then shalt thou call, and I will hearken to thee: but do not thou reject the work of thine hands.	είτα καλέσεις εγώ δε σοι υπακούσομαι τα δε έργα των χειρών σου μη αποποιού
16But thou hast numbered my devices: and not one of my sins shall escape thee?	ηρίθμησας δε μου τα επιτηδεύματα και ου παρέλθη σε ουδέν των αμαρτιών μου
17An thou hast sealed up my transgressions in a bag, and marked if I have been guilty of any transgression unawares.	εσφράγισας δε μου τας ανομίας εν βαλαντίω επεσημήνω δε είτι άκων παρέβην
18And verily a mountain falling will utterly be destroyed, and a rock shall be worn out of its place.	και πλην όρος πίπτον διαπεσείται και πέτρα παλαιωθήσεται εκ του τόπου αυτής
19The waters wear the stones, and waters falling headlong overflow a heap of the earth: and thou destroyest the hope of man.	λίθους ελέαναν ύδατα και κατέκλυσεν ύδατα ύπτια του χώματος της γης και υπομονήν ανθρώπου απώλεσας
20Thou drivest him to an end, and he is gone: thou settest thy face against him, and sendest him away;	ώσας αυτόν εις τέλος και ώχετο επέστησας αυτώ το πρόσωπον και εξαπέστειλας
21and though his children be multiplied, he knows it not; and if they be few, he is not aware.	πολλών δε γενομένων των υιών αυτού ουκ οίδεν εάν τε ολίγοι γένωνται ουκ επίσταται
22But his flesh is in pain, and his soul mourns.	αλλ΄ αι σάρκες αυτού ήλγησαν η δε ψυχή αυτού επένθησεν

Chapter 15

1Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and said,	υπολαβών Ελιφάζ ο Θαιμανίτης λέγει
2Will a wise man give for answer a mere breath of wisdom? and does he fill up the pain of his belly,	πότερον σοφός απόκρισιν δώσει συνέσεως πνεύματος και ενέπλησε πόνον γαστρός
3reasoning with improper sayings, and with words wherein is no profit?	ελέγχων εν ρήμασιν οις ου δει εν λόγοις οις ουδέν όφελος
4Hast not thou moreover cast off fear, and accomplished such words before the Lord?	ου και συ απεποιήσω φόβον συνετελέσω δε ρήματα τοιαύτα εναντίον του κυρίου
5Thou art guilty by the words of thy mouth, neither hast thou discerned the words of the mighty.	ένοχος ει ρήμασι στόματός σου ου διέκρινας ρήματα δυναστών
6Let thine own mouth, and not me, reprove thee: and thy lips shall testify against thee.	ελέγξαι σε το σον στόμα και μη εγώ τα δε χείλη σου καταμαρτυρήσαισάν σου
7What! art thou the first man that was born? or wert thou established before the hills?	τι γαρ μη πρώτος ανθρώπων εγεννήθης η προ θινών επάγης
8Or hast thou heard the ordinance of the Lord? or has God used thee as his counsellor? and has wisdom come only to thee?	σύνταγμα κυρίου ακήκοας εις δε σε αφίκετο σοφία
9For what knowest thou, that, we know not? or what understandest thou, which we do not also?	τι γαρ οίδας ο ουκ οίδαμεν η τι συνιείς ο ουχί και ημείς
10Truly among us are both the old and very aged man, more advanced in days than thy father.	και γε πρεσβύτης και γε παλαιός εν ημίν βαρύτερος του πατρός σου ημέραις
11Thou hast been scourged for but few of thy sins: thou hast spoken haughtily and extravagantly.	ολίγα ων ημάρτηκας μεμαστίγωσαι μεγάλως υπερβαλλόντως λελάληκας
12What has thine heart dared? or what have thine eyes aimed at,	τι ετόλμησεν η καρδία σου η τι επήνεγκαν οι οφθαλμοί σου
13that thou hast vented thy rage before the Lord, and delivered such words from thy mouth?	ότι θυμόν έρρηξας έναντι του κυρίου εξήγαγες δε εκ στόματος ρήματα τοιαύτα
14For who, being a mortal, is such that he shall be blameless? or, who that is born of a woman, that he should be just?	τις γαρ ων βροτός ότι έσται άμεμπτος η ως εσόμενος δίκαιος γεννητός γυναικός
15Forasmuch as he trusts not his saints; and the heaven is not pure before him.	ει κατά αγίων ου πιστεύει ουρανός δε ου καθαρός εναντίον αυτού
16Alas then, abominable and unclean is man, drinking unrighteousness as a draught.	έα δε εβδελυγμένος και ακάθαρτος ανήρ πίνων αδικίας ίσα ποτώ
17But I will tell thee, hearken to me; I will tell thee now what I have seen;	αναγγελώ δε σοι άκουέ μου α δη εώρακα αναγγελώ σοι
18things wise men say, and their fathers have not hidden.	α σοφοί ερούσι και ουκ έκρυψαν πατέρες αυτών
19To them alone the earth was given, and no stranger came upon them.	αυτοίς μόνοις εδόθη η γη και ουκ ήλθεν αλλογενής επ΄ αυτούς
20All the life of the ungodly is spent in care, and the years granted to the oppressor are numbered.	πας ο βίος ασεβούς εν φροντίδι έτη δε αριθμητά δεδομένα δυνάστη
21And his terror is in his ears: just when he seems to be at peace, his overthrow will come.	ο δε φόβος αυτού εν ωσίν αυτού όταν δοκή ήδη ειρηνεύειν ήξει αυτού η καταστροφή
22Let him not trust that he shall return from darkness, for he has been already made over to the power of the sword.	μη πιστευέτω αποστραφήναι από σκότους εντέταλται γαρ ήδη εις χείρας σιδήρου
23And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind.	κατατέτακται δε εις σίτα γυψίν οίδε δε εν εαυτώ ότι μένει εις πτώμα ημέρα δε σκοτεινή αυτόν στροβήσει
24Distress also and anguish shall come upon him: he shall fall as a captain in the first rank.	ανάγκη δε και θλίψις αυτόν καθέξει ώσπερ στρατηγός πρωτοστάτης πίπτων
25For he has lifted his hands against the Lord, and he has hardened his neck against the Almighty Lord.	ότι ήρκε χείρας εναντίον του κυρίου έναντι δε παντοκράτορος ετραχηλίασεν
26And he has run against him with insolence, on the thickness of the back of his shield.	έδραμε δε εναντίον αυτού ύβρει εν πάχει νώτου ασπίδος αυτού
27For he has covered his face with his fat, and made layers of fat upon his thighs.	ότι εκάλυψε το πρόσωπον αυτού εν στέατι αυτού και εποίησε περιστόμιον επί των μηρίων
28And let him lodge in desolate cities, and enter into houses without inhabitant: and what they have prepared, others shall carry away.	αυλισθείη δε πόλεις ερήμους εισέλθοι δε οίκους αοικήτους α δε εκείνοι ητοίμασαν άλλοι αποίσονται
29Neither shall he at all grow rich, nor shall his substance remain: he shall not cast a shadow upon the earth.	ούτε μη πλουτισθή ούτε μη μείνη αυτού τα υπάρχοντα ου βάλη επί γης σκιάν
30Neither shall he in any wise escape the darkness: let the wind blast his blossom, and let his flower fall off.	ουδέ εκφύγη το σκότος τον βλαστόν αυτού μαράναι άνεμος εκπέσοι δε αυτού το άνθος
31Let him not think that he shall endure; for his end shall be vanity.	μη πιστευέτω ότι υπομενεί κενά γαρ αποβήσεται αυτώ
32His harvest shall perish before the time, and his branch shall not flourish.	η τομή αυτού προ ώρας φθαρήσεται και ο ράδαμνος αυτού ου πυκάση
33And let him be gathered as the unripe grape before the time, and let him fall as the blossom of the olive.	τρυγηθείη δε ώπερ όμφαξ προ ώρας εκπέσοι δε ως άνθος ελαίας
34For death is the witness of an ungodly man, and fire shall burn the houses of them that receive gifts.	μαρτύριον γαρ ασεβούς θάνατος πυρ δε καύσει οίκους δωροδεκτών
35And he shall conceive sorrows, and his end shall be vanity, and his belly shall bear deceit.	εν γαστρί δε λήψεται οδύνας αποβήσεται δε αυτώ κενά η δε κοιλία αυτού υποίσει δόλον

Chapter 16

1But Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2I have heard many such things: poor comforters are ye all.	ακήκοα τοιαύτα πολλά παρακλήτορες κακών πάντες
3What! is there any reason in vain words? or what will hinder thee from answering?	τι γαρ μη τάξις εστί ρήμασι πνεύματος η τι παρενοχλήσει σοι ότι αποκρίνη
4I also will speak as ye do: if indeed your soul were in my soul's stead,	καγώ καθ΄ υμάς λαλήσω ει υπέκειτο γε η ψυχή υμών αντί της εμής ειτ΄ εναλούμαι υμίν ρήμασι κινήσω δε καθ΄ υμών κεφαλήν
5then would I insult you with words, and I would shake my head at you.	είη δε ισχύς εν τω στόματί μου κίνησιν δε χειλέων ου φείσομαι
6And would there were strength in my mouth, and I would not spare the movement of my lips.	εάν γαρ λαλήσω ουκ αλγήσω το τραύμα εάν δε και σιωπήσω τι έλαττον τρωθήσομαι
7For if I should speak, I shall not feel the pain of my wound: and if I should be silent, how shall I be wounded the less?	νυν δε κατάκοπόν με πεποίηκε μωρόν σεσηπότα και επελάβετό μου
8But now he has made me weary, and a worn-out fool; and thou hast laid hold of me.	εις μαρτύριον εγενήθην και ανέστη εν εμοί το ψεύδός μου κατά πρόσωπόν μου ανταπεκρίθη
9My falsehood has become a testimony, and has risen up against me: it has confronted me to my face.	οργή χρησάμενος κατέβαλέ με έβρυξεν επ΄ εμέ τους οδόντας βέλη πειρατών αυτού επ΄ εμοί επέπεσαν
10In his anger he has cast me down; he has gnashed his teeth upon me: the weapons of his robbers have fallen upon me.	ακίσιν οφθαλμών ενήλατο οξεί έπαισέ με εις τα γόνατα ομοθυμαδόν δε κατέδραμον επ΄ εμοί
11He has attacked me with the keen glances of his eyes; with his sharp spear he has smitten me down upon my knees; and they have run upon me with one accord.	παρέδωκε γαρ με ο κύριος εις χείρας αδίκων επί δε ασεβέσιν έρριψέ με
12For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of unrighteous men, and thrown me upon the ungodly.	ειρηνεύοντα διεσκέδασέ με λαβών με της κόμης διέτιλε κατέστησέ με ώσπερ σκοπόν
13When I was at peace he distracted me: he took me by the hair of the head, and plucked it out: he set me up as a mark.	εκύκλωσάν με λόγχαις βάλλοντες εις νεφρούς μου ου φειδόμενοι εξέχεαν εις την γην την χολήν μου
14They surrounded me with spears, aiming at my reins: without sparing me they poured out my gall upon the ground.	κατέβαλόν πτώμα επί πτώματι έδραμον προς εμέ δυνάμενοι
15They overthrew me with fall upon fall: they ran upon me in their might.	σάκκον έρραψαν επί βύρσης μου το δε σθένος μου εν γη εσβέσθη
16They sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and my strength has been spent on the ground.	η γαστήρ μου συγκέκαυται από κλαυθμού επι δε βλεφάροις σκιά θανάτου
17My belly has been parched with wailing, and darkness is on my eyelids.	άδικον δε ουδέν ην εν χερσί μου ευχή δε μου καθαρά
18Yet there was no injustice in my hands, and my prayer is pure.	γη μη επικαλύψης εφ΄ αίματι της σαρκός μου μηδέ είη τόπος τη κραυγή μου
19Earth, cover not over the blood of my flesh, and let my cry have no place.	και νυν ιδού εν ουρανοίς ο μάρτυς μου ο δε συνίστωρ μου εν υψίστοις
20And now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my advocate is on high.	αφίκοιτό μου η δέησις προς κύριον έναντι δε αυτού στάζοι μου ο οφθαλμός
21Let my supplication come to the Lord, and let mine eye weep before him.	είη δε έλεγχος ανδρί εναντίον κυρίου και υιώ ανθρώπου τω πλησίον αυτού
22Oh that a man might plead before the Lord, even as the son of man with his neighbor!	έτη δε αριθμητά ήκασιν οδώ δε η ουκ επαναστραφήσομαι πορεύσομαι
23But my years are numbered and their end come, and I shall go by the way by which I shall not return.

Chapter 17

1I perish, carried away by the wind, and I seek for burial, and obtain it not.	ολέκομαι πνεύματι φερόμενος δέομαι δε ταφής και ου τυγχάνω
2Weary I intreat; and what have I done? and strangers have stolen my goods.	λίσσομαι κάμνων και τι ποιήσω έκλεψαν δε μου τα υπάρχοντα αλλότριοι
3Who is this? let him join hands with me.	τις εστίν ούτος τη χειρί μου συνδεθήτω
4For thou hast hid their heart from wisdom; therefore thou shalt not exalt them.	ότι καρδίαν αυτών έκρυψας από φρονήσεως διά τούτο ου υψώσης αυτούς
5He shall promise mischief to his companions: but their eyes have failed for their children.	τη μερίδι αναγγελεί κακίας οφθαλμοί δε εφ΄ υιοίς ετάκησαν
6But thou has made me a byword amount the nations, and I am become a scorn to them.	έθου δε με θρύλλημα εν έθνεσι γέλως δε αυτοίς απέβην
7For my eyes are dimmed through pain; I have been grievously beset by all.	πεπώρωνται γαρ από οργής οι οφθαλμοί μου πεπολιόρκημαι μεγάλως υπό πάντων
8Wonder has seized true men upon this; and let the just rise up against the transgressor.	θαύμα έσχεν αληθινούς επί τούτοις δίκαιος δε επί παρανόμω επανασταίη
9But let the faithful hold on his own way, and let him that is pure of hands take courage.	σχοίη δε πιστός την εαυτού οδόν καθαρός δε χείρας αναλάβοι θάρσος
10Howbeit, do ye all strengthen yourselves and come now, for I do not find truth in you.	ου μην δε αλλά πάντες ερείδετε και δεύτε δη ου γαρ ευρίσκω εν υμίν αληθές
11My days have passed in groaning, and my heart-strings are broken.	αι ημέραι μου παρήλθον εν βρόμω ερράγη δε τα άρθρα της καρδίας μου
12I have turned the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.	νύκτα εις ημέραν έθηκα φως εγγύς από προσώπου σκότους
13For if I remain, Hades is my habitation: and my bed has been made in darkness.	εάν γαρ υπομείνω άδης μου ο οίκος εν δε γνόφω έστρωταί μου η στρωμνή
14I have called upon death to be my father, and corruption to be my mother and sister.	θάνατον επεκαλεσάμην πατέρα μου είναι μητέρα δε μου είναι και αδελφήν σαπρίαν
15Where then is yet my hope? or where shall I see my good?	που ουν μου εστίν η ελπίς η τα αγαθά μου όψομαι
16Will they go down with me to Hades, or shall we go down together to the tomb?	η μετ΄ εμού εις άδην καταβησονται η ομοθυμαδόν επί χώματος καταβησόμεθα

Chapter 18

1Then Baldad the Sauchite answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Βαλδάδ ο Σαυχίτης λέγει
2How long wilt thou continue? forbear, that we also may speak.	μέχρι τίνος ου παύση επίσχες ίνα και αυτοί λαλήσωμεν
3For wherefore have we been silent before thee like brutes?	διατί ώσπερ τετράποδα σεσιωπήκαμεν ενώπιόν σου
4Anger has possessed thee: for what if thou shouldest die; would the earth under heaven be desolate? or shall the mountains be overthrown from their foundations?	κέχρηταί σε οργή τι γαρ εάν συ αποθάνης αοίκητος η υπ΄ ουρανόν η καταστραφήσεται όρη εκ θεμελίων
5But the light of the ungodly shall be quenched, and their flame shall not go up.	και φως ασεβών σβεσθήσεται και ουκ αποβήσεται αυτών η φλοξ
6His light shall be darkness in his habitation, and his lamp shall be put out with him.	το φως αυτού σκότος εν διαίτη ο δε λύχνος επ΄ αυτώ σβεσθήσεται
7Let the meanest of men spoil his goods, and let his counsel deceive him.	θηρεύσαισαν ελάχιστοι τα υπάρχοντα αυτού σφάλαι δε αυτού η βουλή
8His foot also has been caught in a snare, and let it be entangled in a net.	εμβληθείη δε ο πους αυτού εν παγίδι εν δικτύω ελιχθείη
9And let snares come upon him: he shall strengthen those that thirst for his destruction.	έλθοισαν δε επ΄ αυτόν παγίδες κατισχύσει επ΄ αυτόν διψώντας
10His snare is hid in the earth, and that which shall take him is by the path.	κέκρυπται εν τη γη σχοινίον αυτού και η σύλληψις αυτού επί τρίβων
11Let pains destroy him round about, and let many enemies come about him,	κύκλω ολέσαισαν αυτόν οδύναι πολλοί δε περί πόδα αυτού έλθοισαν
12vex him with distressing hunger: and a signal destruction has been prepared for him.	εν λιμώ στενώ πτώμα δε αυτώ ητοίμασται εξαίσιον
13Let the soles of his feet be devoured: and death shall consume his beauty.	βρωθείησαν δε αυτού κλώνες ποδών κατέδεται δε αυτού τα ωραία θάνατος
14And let health be utterly banished from his tabernacle, and let distress seize upon him with a charge from the king.	εκραγείη δε εκ διαίτης αυτού ίασις σχοίη δε αυτόν ανάγκη αιτία βασιλική
15It shall dwell in his tabernacle in his night: his excellency shall be sown with brimstone.	κατασκηνώσει εν τη σκηνή αυτού εν νυκτί αυτού κατασπαρήσονται τα ευπρεπή αυτού εν θείω
16His roots shall be dried up from beneath, and his crop shall fall away from above.	υποκάτωθεν αι ρίζαι αυτού ξηρανθήσονται και επάνωθεν επιπεσείται θερισμός αυτού
17Let his memorial perish out of the earth, and his name shall be publicly cast out.	το μνημόσυνον αυτού απόλοιτο εκ γης και υπάρξει όνομα αυτώ επί πρόσωπον εξωτέρω
18Let one drive him from light into darkness.	απώσειεν αυτόν εκ φωτός εις σκότος και από της οικουμένης μετώκισαν αυτόν
19He shall not be known among his people, nor his house preserved on the earth.	ουκ έσται επιγνωστός εν λαω αυτού ουδέ σεσωσμένος εν τη υπ΄ ουρανόν ο οίκος αυτού
20But strangers shall dwell in his possessions: the last groaned for him, and wonder seized the first.	αλλ΄ εν τοις αυτού ζήσονται έτεροι επ΄ αυτώ εστέναξαν έσχατοι πρώτους δε έσχε θαύμα
21These are the houses of the unrighteous, and this is the place of them that know not the Lord.	ούτοι εισίν οι οίκοι αδίκων ούτος δε ο τόπος των μη ειδότων τον κύριον

Chapter 19

1Then Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2How long will ye vex my soul, and destroy me with words? only know that the Lord has dealt with me thus.	έως τίνος έγκοπον ποιήσετε την ψυχήν μου και καθαιρείτέ με λόγοις γνώτε μόνον ότι ο κύριος εποίησέ με ούτως
3Ye speak against me; ye do not feel for me, but bear hard upon me.	καταλαλείτέ μου ουκ αισχυνόμενοί με επίκεισθέ μοι
4Yea verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it was not right to speak; and my words err, and are unreasonable.	ναι δη επ΄ αληθείας εγώ επλανήθην παρ΄ εμοί δε αυλίζεται πλάνος λαλήσαι ρήμα α ουκ έδει τα δε ρήματά μου πλανάται και ουκ επί καιρού
5But alas! for ye magnify yourselves against me, and insult me with reproach.	έα δε ότι επ΄ εμοί μεγαλύνεσθε ενάλλεσθε δε μοι ονείδει
6Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, and has raised his bulwark against me.	γνώτε ουν ότι ο κύριος εστιν ο ταράξας οχύρωμα δε αυτού επ΄ εμέ ύψωσεν
7Behold, I laugh at reproach; I will not speak: or I will cry out, but there is nowhere judgment.	ιδού γελώ ονείδει και ου λαλήσω κεκράξομαι και ουδαμού κρίμα
8I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: he has set darkness before my face.	κύκλω περιωκοδόμημαι και ου διαβώ επί πρόσωπου μου σκότος έθετο
9And he has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head.	την δε δόξαν μου απ΄ εμού εξέδυσεν αφείλε δε στέφανον από κεφαλής μου
10He has torn me around about, and I am gone: and he has cut off my hope like a tree.	διέσπασέ με κύκλω και ωχόμην εξέκοψε δε ώσπερ δένδρον την ελπίδα μου
11And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy.	δεινώς δε μοι οργή εχρήσατο ηγήσατο δε με ώσπερ εχθρόν
12His troops also came upon me with one accord, liars in wait compassed my ways.	ομοθυμαδόν δε ήλθον τα πειρατήρια αυτού επ΄ εμοί τοις οδοίς μου εκύκλωσάν με εγκάθετοι
13My brethren have stood aloof from me; they have recognized strangers rather than me: and my friends have become pitiless.	απ΄ εμού αδελφοί μου απέστησαν έγνωσαν αλλοτρίους η εμέ φίλοι δε μου ανελεήμονες γεγόνασιν
14My nearest of kin have not acknowledged me, and they that knew my name, have forgotten me.	ου προσεποιήσαντό με οι εγγύτατοί μου και οι ειδότες μου το όνομα επελάθοντό μου
15As for my household, and my maid-servants, I was a stranger before them.	γείτονες οικίας θεράπαιναι τε μου αλλογενής ήμην εναντίον αυτών
16I called my servant, and he hearkened not; and my mouth intreated him.	θεράποντά μου εκάλεσα και ουχ υπήκουσε στόμα δε μου εδέετο
17And I besought my wife, and earnestly intreated the sons of my concubines.	και ικέτευον την γυναίκά μου προσεκαλούμην δε κολακεύων υιούς παλλακίδων μου
18But they rejected me for ever; whenever I rise up, they speak against me.	οι δε εις τον αιώνά με απεποιήσαντο όταν αναστώ κατ΄ εμού λαλούσιν
19They that saw me abhorred me: the very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me.	εβδελύξαντό με οι ειδότες με ους δη ηγαπήκειν επανέστησάν μοι
20My flesh is corrupt under my skin, and my bones are held in my teeth.	εν δέρματί μου εσάπησαν αι σάρκες μου τα δε οστά μου εν οδούσιν έχεται
21Pity me, pity me, O friends; for it is the hand of the Lord that has touched me.	ελεήσατέ με ελεήσατέ με ω φίλοι χειρ γαρ κυρίου η αψαμένη μου εστί
22Wherefore do ye persecute me as also the Lord does, and are not satisfied with my flesh?	διατί δε με διώκετε ώσπερ και ο κύριος από δε σαρκών μου ουκ εμπίπλασθε
23For oh that my words were written, and that they were recorded in a book forever,	τις γαρ αν δοίη γραφήναι τα ρήματά μου τεθήναι δε αυτά εν βιβλίω εις τον αιώνα
24with an iron pen and lead, or graven in the rocks!	εν γραφείω σιδηρώ και μολίβδω η εν πέτραις εγγλυφήναι
25For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me,	οίδα γαρ ότι αένναος εστιν ο εκλύειν με μέλλων επί γης
26and to raise up upon the earth my skin that endures these sufferings: for these things have been accomplished to me of the Lord;	αναστήσαι το δέρμα μου το αναντλούν ταύτα παρά γαρ κυρίου ταύτά μοι συνετελέσθη
27which I am conscious of in myself, which mine eye has seen, and not another, but all have been fulfilled to me in my bosom.	α εγώ εμαυτώ συνεπίσταμαι α οφθαλμός μου εώρακε και ουκ άλλος πάντα δε μοι συντετέλεσται εν κόλπω
28But if ye shall also say, What shall we say before him, and so find the root of the matter in him?	ει ερείτε τι ερούμεν εναντίον αυτού και ρίζαν λόγου ευρήσομεν εν αυτώ
29Do ye also beware of deceit: for wrath will come upon transgressors; and then shall they know where their substance is.	ευλαβήθητε και υμείς από επικαλύμματος θυμός γαρ επί ανόμους επελεύσεται και τότε γνώσονται που εστιν αυτών η ύλη

Chapter 20

1Then Sophar the Minaean answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Σωφάρ ο Μιναίος λέγει
2I did not suppose that thou wouldest answer thus: neither do ye understand more than I.	ουχ ούτως υπελάμβανον αντερείν σε ταύτα και ουχί συνίετε μάλλον η εγώ
3I will hear my shameful reproach; and the spirit of my understanding answers me.	παιδείαν εντροπής μου ακούσομαι και πνεύμα εκ της συνέσεως αποκρίνεταί μοι
4Hast thou not known these things of old, from the time that man was set upon the earth?	μη ταύτα έγνως από του έτι αφ΄ ου ετέθη άνθρωπος επί της γης
5But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:	ευφροσύνη γαρ ασεβών πτώμα εξαίσιον χαρμονή δε παρανόμων απώλεια
6although his gifts should go up to heaven, and his sacrifice reach the clouds.	εάν αναβή εις ουρανόν αυτού τα δώρα η δε θυσία αυτού νεφών άψηται
7For when he shall seem to be now established, then he shall utterly perish: and they that knew him shall say, Where is he?	όταν γαρ δοκή ήδη κατεστηρίχθαι τότε εις τέλος απολείται οι δε ειδότες αυτόν ερούσι που εστιν
8Like a dream that has fled away, he shall not be found; and he has fled like a vision of the night.	ώσπερ ενύπνιον εκπετασθέν ου ευρεθή έπτη δε ώσπερ φάσμα νυκτερινόν
9The eye has looked upon him, but shall not see him again; and his place shall no longer perceive him.	οφθαλμός παρέβλεψε και ου προσθήσει και ουκ προσνοήσει αυτόν ο τόπος αυτού
10Let his inferiors destroy his children, and let his hands kindle the fire of sorrow.	τους υιούς αυτού ολέσαισαν ήττονες αι δε χείρες αυτού πυρσεύσαισαν οδύνας
11His bones have been filled with vigour of his youth, and it shall lie down with him in the dust.	οστά αυτού ενεπλήσθησαν νεότητος αυτού και μετ΄ αυτού επί χώματος κοιμηθήσεται
12Though evil be sweet in his mouth, though he will hide it under his tongue;	εάν γλυκανθή εν στόματι αυτού κακία κρύψει αυτήν υπό την γλώσσαν αυτού
13though he will not spare it, and will not leave it, but will keep it in the midst of his throat:	ου φείσεται αυτής και ουκ εγκαταλείψει αυτήν και συνάξει αυτήν εν μέσω του λάρυγγος αυτού
14yet he shall not at all be able to help himself; the gall of an asp is in his belly.	και ου δυνηθή βοηθήσαι εαυτώ χολή ασπίδος εν γαστρί αυτού
15His wealth unjustly collected shall be vomited up; a messenger of wrath shall drag him out of his house.	πλούτος αδίκως συναγόμενος εξεμεθήσεται εξ οικίας αυτού εξελκύσει αυτόν άγγελος
16And let him suck the poison of serpents, and let the serpent's tongue slay him.	θυμόν δε δρακόντων θηλάσειεν ανέλοι δε αυτόν γλώσσα όφεως
17Let him not see the milk of the pastures, nor the supplies of honey and butter.	μη ίδοι άμελξιν νομάδων μηδέ νομάς μέλιτος και βουτύρου
18He has laboured unprofitably and in vain, for wealth of which he shall not taste: it is as a lean thing, unfit for food, which he cannot swallow.	εις κενά και μάταια εκοπίασε πλούτον εξ ου ου γεύσεται ώσπερ στρίφνος αμάσητος ακατάποτος
19For he has broken down the houses of many mighty men: and he has plundered an habitation, though he built it not.	πολλών γαρ αδυνάτων οίκους έθλασε δίαιταν δε ήρπασε και ουκέστησεν
20There is no security to his possessions; he shall not be saved by his desire.	ουκ έστιν αυτού σωτηρία τοις υπάρχουσιν εν επιθυμία αυτού ου σωθήσεται
21There is nothing remaining of his provisions; therefore his goods shall not flourish.	ουκ εστιν υπόλειμμα τοις βρώμασιν αυτού διά τούτο ουκ ανθήσει αυτού τα αγαθά
22But when he shall seem to be just satisfied, he shall be straitened; and all distress shall come upon him.	όταν δε δοκή ήδη πεπληρώσθαι θλιβήσεται πάσα δε ανάγκη επ΄ αυτόν επελεύσεται
23If by any means he would fill his belly, let God send upon him the fury of wrath; let him bring a torrent of pains upon him.	ει πως πληρώσαι γαστέρα αυτού επαποστείλαι επ΄ αυτόν θυμόν οργής νίψαι επ΄ αυτόν οδύνας
24And he shall by no means escape from the power of the sword; let the brazen bow wound him.	και ου σωθή εκ χειρός σιδήρου τρώσαι αυτόν τόξον χάλκειον
25And let the arrow pierce through his body; and let the stars be against his dwelling-place: let terrors come upon him.	διεξέλθοι δε διά σώματος αυτού βέλος άστρα δε εν διαίταις αυτού περιπατήσαισαν επ΄ αυτώ φόβοι
26And let all darkness wait for him: a fire that burns not out shall consume him; and let a stranger plague his house.	παν δε σκότος αυτώ υπομείναι κατέδεται αυτόν πυρ άκαυστον κακώσαι δε αυτού επήλυτος τον οίκον
27And let the heaven reveal his iniquities, and the earth rise up against him.	ανακαλύψαι δε αυτού ο ουρανός τας ανομίας γη δε επανασταίη αυτώ
28Let destruction bring his house to an end; let a day of wrath come upon him.	ελκύσαι τον οίκον αυτού απώλεια εις τέλος ημέρα οργής επέλθοι αυτώ
29This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of his goods appointed him by the all-seeing God.	αύτη η μερίς ανθρώπου ασεβούς παρά κυρίου και κτήμα υπαρχόντων αυτώ παρά του επισκόπου

Chapter 21

1But Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2Hear ye, hear ye my words, that I may not have this consolation from you.	ακούσατε ακούσατέ μου των λόγων ίνα η μοι παρ΄ υμών αύτη η παράκλησις
3Raise me, and I will speak; then ye shall not laugh me to scorn.	άρατέ με εγώ δε λαλήσω ειτ΄ ου καταγελάσετέ μου
4What! is my reproof of man? and why should I not be angry?	τι γαρ μη ανθρώπου μου η έλεγξις η διατί ου θυμωθήσομαι
5Look upon me, and wonder, laying your hand upon your cheek.	εισβλέψαντες εις εμέ θαύμασετε χείρα θέντες επί σιαγόνι
6For even when I remember, I am alarmed, and pains seize my flesh.	εάν τε γαρ μνησθώ εσπούδακα έχουσι δε μου τας σάρκας οδύναι
7Wherefore do the ungodly live, and grow old even in wealth?	διατί ασεβείς ζώσι πεπαλαίωνται δε και εν πλούτω
8Their seed is according to their desire, and their children are in their sight.	ο σπόρος αυτών κατά ψυχήν τα δε τέκνα αυτών εν οφθαλμοίς
9Their houses are prosperous, neither have they any where cause for fear, neither is there a scourge from the Lord upon them.	οι οίκοι αυτών ευθηνούσι φόβος δε ουδαμού μάστιξ δε παρά κυρίου ουκ έστιν επ΄ αυτοίς
10Their cow does not cast her calf, and their beast with young is safe, and does not miscarry.	η βους αυτών ουκ ωμοτόκησε διεσώθη δε αυτών εν γαστρί έχουσα και ουκ έσφαλε
11And they remain as an unfailing flock, and their children play before them, taking up the psaltery and harp;	μένουσι δε ώσπερ πρόβατα αιώνια τα δε παιδία αυτών προσπαίζουσιν
12and they rejoice at the voice of a song.	αναλαβόντες ψαλτήριον και κιθάραν και ευφραίνονται φωνή ψαλμού
13And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave.	συνετέλεσαν δε εν αγαθοίς τον βίον αυτών εν δε αναπαύσει άδου εκοιμήθησαν
14Yet such a man says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know thy ways.	λέγει δε κυρίω απόστα απ΄ εμού οδούς σου ειδέναι ου βούλομαι
15What is the Mighty One, that we should serve him? and what profit is there that we should approach him?	τι ικανός ότι δουλεύσομεν αυτώ και τις ωφέλεια ότι απαντήσομεν αυτώ
16For their good things were in their hands, but he regards not the works of the ungodly.	εν χερσί γαρ ουκ ην αυτώ τα αγαθά έργα δε ασεβών ουκ εφορά
17Nevertheless, the lamp of the ungodly also shall be put out, and destruction shall come upon them, and pangs of vengeance shall seize them.	ου μην δε αλλά και ασεβών λύχνος σβεσθήσεται επελεύσεται δε αυτοίς η καταστροφή ωδίνες δε αυτούς έξουσιν από οργής
18And they shall be as chaff before the wind, or as dust which the storm has taken up.	έσονται δε ώσπερ άχυρα προ ανέμου η ώσπερ κονιορτός ον υφείλετο λαίλαψ
19Let his substance fail to supply his children: God shall recompense him, and he shall know it.	εκλείποι υιούς υπάρχοντα αυτού ανταποδώσει προς αυτόν και γνώσεται
20Let his eyes see his own destruction, and let him not be saved by the Lord.	ίδοισαν οι οφθαλμοί αυτού την εαυτού σφαγήν από δε κυρίου μη διασωθείη
21For his desire is in his house with him, and the number of his months has been suddenly cut off.	ότι το θέλημα αυτού εν οίκω αυτού μετ΄ αυτού και αριθμοί μηνών αυτού διηρέθησαν
22Is it not the Lord who teaches understanding and knowledge? and does not he judge murders?	πότερον ουχ ο κύριος εστιν ο διδάσκων σύνεσιν και επιστήμην αυτός δε σοφούς διακρινεί
23One shall die in his perfect strength, and wholly at ease and prosperous;	ούτος αποθανείται εν κράτει απλοσύνης αυτού όλος δε ευπαθών και ευθηνών
24and his inwards are full of fat, and his marrow is diffused throughout him.	τα δε έγκατα αυτού πλήρη στέατος μυελός δε αυτού διαχείται
25And another dies in bitterness of soul, not eating any good thing.	ο δε τελευτά υπό πικρίας ψυχής ου φαγών ουδέν αγαθόν
26But they lie down in the earth together, and corruption covers them.	ομοθυμαδόν δε επί γης κοιμώνται σαπρία δε αυτούς εκάλυψεν
27So I know you, that ye presumptuously attack me:	ώστε οίδα υμάς ότι τόλμη επίκεισθέ μοι
28so that ye will say, Where is the house of the prince? and where is the covering of the tabernacles of the ungodly?	ότι ερείτε που εστίν οίκος άρχοντος και που εστίν η σκέπη των σκηνωμάτων των ασεβών
29Ask those that go by the way, and do not disown their tokens.	ερωτήσατε παραπορευομένους οδόν και τα σημεία αυτών ουκ απαλλοτριώσετε
30For the wicked hastens to the day of destruction: they shall be led away for the day of his vengeance.	ότι εις ημέραν απωλείας κουφίζεται ο πονηρός εις ημέραν οργής αυτού απαχθήσεται
31Who will tell him his way to his face, whereas he has done it? who shall recompense him?	τις απαγγελεί επί προσώπου αυτού την οδον αυτού και αυτός εποίησε τις ανταποδώσει αυτώ
32And he has been led away to the tombs, and he has watched over the heaps.	και αυτός εις τάφους απηνέχθη και επί σωρών ηγρύπνησεν
33The stones of the valley have been sweet to him, and every man shall depart after him, and there are innumerable ones before him.	εγλυκάνθησαν αυτώ χάλικες χειμάρρου και οπίσω αυτού πας άνθρωπος απελεύσεται και έμπροσθεν αυτού αναρίθμητοι
34How then do ye comfort me in vain? whereas I have no rest from your molestation.	πως δε παρακαλείτέ με κενά το δε εμέ καταπαύσασθαι αφ΄ υμών ουδέν

Chapter 22

1Then Eliphaz the Thaemanite answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ελιφάζ ο Θαιμανίτης λέγει
2Is it not the Lord that teaches understanding and knowledge?	πότερον ουχί ο κύριός εστιν ο διδάσκων σύνεσιν και επιστήμην
3For what matters it to the Lord, if thou wert blameless in thy works? or is it profitable that thou shouldest perfect thy way?	τι γαρ μέλει τω κυρίω εάν συ ήσθα τοις έργοις άμεμπτος η ωφέλεια ότι απλώσης την οδόν σου
4Wilt thou maintain and plead thine own cause? and will he enter into judgment with thee?	η λόγον σου ποιούμενος ελέγξει σε και συνεισελεύσεταί σοι εις κρίσιν
5Is not thy wickedness abundant, and thy sins innumerable?	πότερον ουχ η κακία σου εστί πολλή αναρίθμητοι δε σου εισίν αι αμαρτίαι
6And thou hast taken security of thy brethren for nothing, and hast taken away the clothing of the naked.	ηνεχύραζες δε τους αδελφούς σου διακενής αμφίασιν δε γυμνών αφείλου
7Neither hast thou given water to the thirsty to drink, but hast taken away the morsel of the hungry.	ουδέ ύδωρ διψώντας επότισας αλλά πεινώντων εστέρησας ψωμόν
8And thou hast accepted the persons of some; and thou hast established those that were already settled on the earth.	εθαύμασας δε τινών πρόσωπα ώκισας δε πτωχούς επί της γης
9But thou hast sent widows away empty, and has afflicted orphans.	χήρας δε εξαπέστειλας κενάς ορφανούς δε εκάκωσας
10Therefore snares have compassed thee, and disastrous war has troubled thee.	τοιγαρούν εκύκλωσάν σε παγίδες και εσπούδασε σε πόλεμος εξαίσιος
11The light has proved darkness to thee, and water has covered thee on thy lying down.	το φως σοι σκότος απέβη κοιμηθέντα δε ύδωρ σε εκάλυψε
12Does not he that dwells in the high places observe? and has he not brought down the proud?	μη ο τα υψηλά ναίων εφορά τους δε ύβρει φερομένους εταπείνωσε
13And thou has said, What does the Mighty One know? does he judge in the dark?	και είπας τι έγνω ο ισχυρός η κατά του γνόφου κρινεί
14A cloud is his hiding-place, and he shall not be seen; and he passes through the circle of heaven.	νεφέλη αποκρυφή αυτού και ουχ οραθήσεται και γύρον ουρανού διαπορεύεται
15Wilt thou not mark the old way, which righteous men have trodden?	μη τρίβον αιώνιον φυλάξεις ην επάτησαν άνδρες άδικοι
16who were seized before their time: their foundations are as an overflowing stream.	οι συνελήφθησαν άωροι ποταμός επιρρέων οι θεμέλιοι αυτών
17Who say, What will the Lord do to us? or what will the Almighty bring upon us?	οι λέγοντες κύριος τι ποιήσει ημίν η τι επάξεται ημίν ο παντοκράτωρ
18Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel for the wicked is far from him.	ος δε ενέπλησε τους οίκους αυτών αγαθών βουλή δε ασεβών πόρρω αυτού
19The righteous have seen it, and laughed, and the blameless one has derided them.	ιδόντες δίκαιοι εγέλασαν άμεμπτος δε εμυκτήρισεν αυτούς
20Verily their substance has been utterly destroyed, and the fire shall devour what is left of their property.	ει ηφανίσθη η υπόστασις αυτών και το κατάλειμμα αυτών καταφάγεται πυρ
21Be firm, I pray thee, if thou canst endure; then thy fruit shall prosper.	γενού δη σκληρός εάν υπομείνης είτα ο καρπός σου έσται εν αγαθοίς
22And receive a declaration from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.	έκλαβε δε εκ στόματος εξηγορίαν και ανάλαβε τα ρήματα αυτού εν καρδία σου
23And if thou shalt turn and humble thyself before the Lord, thou hast thus removed unrighteousness far from thy habitation.	εάν δε επιστραφής και ταπεινώσης σεαυτόν έναντι κυρίου πόρρω εποίησας από διαίτης σου άδικον
24Thou shalt lay up for thyself treasure in a heap on the rock; and Sophir shall be as the rock of the torrent.	θήση επί χώματι εν πέτρα και ως πέτρα χειμάρρου Ωφείρ
25So the Almighty shall be thy helper from enemies, and he shall bring thee forth pure as silver that has been tried by fire.	έσται ουν σου ο παντοκράτωρ βοηθός από εχθρών καθαρόν δε αποδώσει σε ώσπερ αργύριον πεπυρωμένον
26Then shalt thou have boldness before the Lord, looking up cheerfully to heaven.	είτα παρρησιασθήση έναντι κυρίου αναβλέψας εις τον ουρανόν ιλαρώς
27And he shall hear thee when thou prayest to him, and he shall grant thee power to pay thy vows.	ευξαμένου δε σου προς αυτόν εισακούσεταί σου δώσει δε σοι αποδούναι τας ευχάς
28And he shall establish to thee again a habitation of righteousness and there shall be light upon thy paths.	αποκαταστήσει δε σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης επί δε οδοίς σου έσται φέγγος
29Because thou hast humbled thyself; and thou shalt say, Man has behaved proudly, but he shall save him that is of lowly eyes.	ότι εταπείνωσεν εαυτόν και ερείς υπερηφανεύσατο και κύφοντα τοις οφθαλμοίς σώσει
30He shall deliver the innocent, and do thou save thyself by thy pure hands.	ρύσεται αθώον και διασώθητι εν καθαραίς χερσί σου

Chapter 23

1Then Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2Yea, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning.	και δη οίδα ότι εκ χειρός μου η έλεγξις μου εστί και η χειρ αυτού βαρεία γέγονεν επ΄ εμώ στεναγμώ
3Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end of the matter?	τις δ΄ άρα γνοίη ότι εύροιμι αυτόν και έλθοιμι εις τέλος
4And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments.	είποιμι δε εμαυτού κρίμα το δε στόμα μου εμπλήσω ελέγχων
5And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me.	γνοίην δε ίαμα α μοι ερεί αισθοίμην δε τίνα μοι απαγγελεί
6Though he should come on me in his great strength, then he would not threaten me;	και ει εν πολλή ισχύϊ επελεύσεταί μοι είτα εν απειλή μοι ου χρήσεται
7for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end.	αλήθεια γαρ και έλεγχος παρ΄ αυτού εξαγαγοι δε εις τέλος μου το κρίμα
8For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know concerning the latter end?	εις γαρ πρώτα πορεύσομαι και ουκέτι ειμί τα δε επ΄ εσχάτοις τι οίδα
9When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed it not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it.	αριστερά ποιήσαντος αυτού ου κατέσχον περιβαλεί δεξιά και ουκ όψομαι
10For he knows already my way; and he has tried me as gold.	οίδε γαρ ήδη οδόν διέκρινε με ώσπερ το χρυσίον
11And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments,	εξελεύσομαι δε εν εντάλμασιν αυτού οδούς γαρ αυτού εφύλαξα και ου εκκλίνω από ενταλμάτων αυτού
12neither shall I transgress; but I have hid his words in my bosom.	και ου παρέλθω εν δε κόλπω μου έκρυψα τα ρήματα αυτού
13And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed a thing and done it.	ει αυτός έκρινεν ούτως τις εστίν ο αντειπών αυτώ ο γαρ αυτός ηθέλησε και εποίησε
14Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him. Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him.	διά τούτο επ΄ αυτώ εσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δε εφρόντισα αυτού
15But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me.	επί τούτω από προσώπου αυτού κατασπουδασθώ κατανοήσω και πτοηθήσομαι εξ αυτού
16For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face.	κυριός δε εμαλάκυνε την καρδίαν μου ο δε παντοκράτωρ εσπούδασέ με
17	ου γαρ ήδειν ότι επελεύσεταί μοι σκότος προ προσώπου δε μου εκάλυψε γνόφος

Chapter 24

1But why have the seasons been hidden from the Lord,	διατί δε κύριον ουκ έλαθον ώραι
2while the ungodly have passed over the bound, carrying off the flock with the shepherd?	ασεβείς δε όριον υπερέβησαν ποίμνιον συν ποιμένι αρπάσαντες
3They have led away, the ass of the fatherless, and taken the widow's ox for a pledge.	υποζύγιον δε ορφανών απήγαγον και βουν χήρας ηνεχύρασαν
4They have turned aside the weak from the right way: and the meek of the earth have hidden themselves together.	εξέκλιναν αδυνάτους εξ οδού δικαίας ομοθυμαδόν εκρύβησαν πραείς γης
5And they have departed like asses in the field, having gone forth on my account according to their own order: his bread is sweet to his little ones.	απέβησαν δε ώσπερ όνοι εν αγρώ υπέρ εμού εξελθόντες την εαυτών πράξιν ηδύνθη αυτών άρτος εις νεωτέρους
6They have reaped a field that was not their own before the time: the poor have laboured in the vineyards of the ungodly without pay and without food.	αγρόν προ ώρας ουκ αυτών όντα εθέρισαν αδύνατοι δε αμπελώνας ασεβών αμισθί και ασιτοί ειργάσαντο
7They have caused many naked to sleep without clothes, and they have taken away the covering of their body.	γυμνούς πολλούς εκοίμισαν άνευ ιματίων αμφίασιν δε ψυχής αυτών αφείλαντο
8They are wet with the drops of the mountains: they have embraced the rock, because they had no shelter.	από ψεκάδων ορέων υγραίνονται παρά το μη έχειν αυτοίς σκέπην πέτραν περιεβάλοντο
9They have snatched the fatherless from the breast, and have afflicted the outcast.	ήρπασαν ορφανόν από μαστού εκπεπτωκότα δε εταπείνωσαν
10And they have wrongfully caused others to sleep without clothing, and taken away the morsel of the hungry.	γυμνούς δε εκοίμισαν αδίκως πεινώντων δε τον ψωμόν αφείλαντο
11They have unrighteously laid wait in narrow places, and have not known the righteous way.	εν στενοίς αδίκως ενήδρευσαν οδόν δε δικαίαν ουκ ήδεισαν
12Who have cast forth the poor from the city and their own houses, and the soul of the children has groaned aloud.	οι εκ πόλεως και οίκων ιδίων εξεβάλοντο ψυχή δε νηπίων εστέναξε μέγα
13Why then has he not visited these? forasmuch as they were upon the earth, and took no notice, and they knew not the way of righteousness, neither have they walked in their appointed paths?	αυτός δε διατί τούτων επισκοπήν ου πεποίηται επί γης όντων αυτών και ουκ επέγνωσαν οδόν δε δικαιοσύνης ουκ ήδεισαν ουδέ ατραπούς αυτών επορεύθησαν
14But having known their works, he delivered them into darkness: and in the night one will be as a thief:	γνους δε αυτών τα έργα παρέδωκεν αυτούς εις σκότος και νυκτός έσται ως κλέπτης
15and the eye of the adulterer has watched for the darkness, saying, Eye shall not perceive me, and he puts a covering on his face.	και οφθαλμός μοιχού εφύλαξε σκότος λέγων ου προνοήσει με οφθαλμός και αποκρυβήν προσώπου έθετο
16In darkness he digs through houses: by day they conceal themselves securely: they know not the light.	διώρυξεν εν σκότει οικίας ημέρας εσφράγισαν εαυτούς ουκ επέγνωσαν φως
17For the morning is to them all as the shadow of death, for each will be conscious of the terror of the shadow of death.	ότι ομοθυμαδόν αυτοίς τοπρωϊ σκιά θανάτου ότι επιγνώσεται ταραχάς σκιάς θανάτου
18He is swift on the face of the water: let his portion be cursed on the earth; and let their plants be laid bare.	ελαφρός εστιν επί πρόσωπον ύδατος καταραθείη η μερίς αυτών επί γης αναφανείη δε τα φυτά αυτών
19Let them be withered upon the earth; for they have plundered the sheaves of the fatherless.	επί γης ξηρά αγκαλίδα γαρ ορφανών ήρπασαν
20Then is his sin brought to remembrance, and he vanishes like a vapour of dew: but let what he has done be recompensed to him, and let every unrighteous one be crushed like rotten wood.	ειτ΄ ανεμνήσθη αυτού η αμαρτία ώσπερ δε ομίχλη δρόσου αφανής εγένετο αποδοθείη δε αυτώ α έπραξε συντριβείη δε πας άδικος ίσα ξύλω ανιάτω
21For he has not treated the barren woman well, and has had no pity on a feeble woman.	στείραν γαρ ουκ ευ εποίησε και γύναιον ουκ ηλέησε
22And in wrath he has overthrown the helpless: therefore when he has arisen, a man will not feel secure of his own life.	θυμώ δε κατέστρεψεν αδυνάτους αναστάς τοιγαρούν ου πιστεύση κατά της εαυτού ζωής
23When he has fallen sick, let him not hope to recover: but let him perish by disease.	μαλακισθείς μη ελπιζέτω υγιασθήναι αλλά πεσείται νόσω
24For his exaltation has hurt many; but he has withered as mallows in the heat, or as an ear of corn falling off of itself from the stalk.	πολλούς γαρ εκάκωσε το ύψωμα αυτού εμαράνθη δε ώσπερ μολόχη εν καύματι η ώσπερ στάχυς από καλάμης αυτόματος αποπεσών
25But if not, who is he that says I speak falsely, and will make my words of no account?	ει τις εστίν ο φάμενος ψευδή με λέγειν και θήσει εις ουθέν τα ρήματά μου

Chapter 25

1Then Baldad the Sauchite answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Βαλδάδ ο Σαυχίτης λέγει
2What beginning or fear is his—even he that makes all things in the highest?	τι γαρ προοίμιον η φόβος παρ΄ αυτού ο ποιών την σύμπασαν εν υψίστω
3For let none think that there is a respite for robbers: and upon whom will there not come a snare from him?	μη γαρ τις υπολάβοι ότι έστι παρέλκυσις πειραταίς επί τίνας δε ουκ επελεύσεται ένεδρα παρ΄ αυτού
4For how shall a mortal be just before the Lord? or who that is born of a woman shall purify himself?	πως γαρ έσται δίκαιος βροτός έναντι κυρίου η τις αν αποκαθαρίσαι εαυτόν γεννητός γυναικός
5If he gives an order to the moon, then it shines not; and the stars are not pure before him.	ει σελήνη συντάσσει και ουκ επιφαύσκει άστρα δε ου καθαρά εναντίον αυτού
6But alas! man is corruption, and the son of man a worm.	έα δε άνθρωπος σαπρία και υιός ανθρώπου σκώληξ

Chapter 26

1But Job answered and said,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει
2To whom dost thou attach thyself, or whom art thou going to assist? is it not he that has much strength, and he who has a strong arm?	τίνι πρόσκεισαι η τίνι μέλλεις βοηθείν πότερον ουχ ω πολλή ισχύς και ω βραχίων κραταίος εστι
3To whom hast thou given counsel? is it not to him who has all wisdom? whom wilt thou follow? is it not one who has the greatest power?	τίνι συμβεβούλευσαι ουχ ω πάσα σοφία η τίνι επακολουθήσεις ουχ ω μεγίστη δύναμις
4To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose breath is it that has come forth from thee?	τίνι ανήγγειλας ρήματα πνοή δε τίνος εστίν η εξελθούσα εκ σου
5Shall giants be born from under the water and the inhabitants thereof?	μη γίγαντες μαιωθήσονται υποκάτωθεν ύδατος και των γειτόνων αυτού
6Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.	γυμνός ο άδης ενώπιον αυτού και ουκ έστι περιβόλαιον τη απωλεία
7He stretches out the north wind upon nothing, and he upon nothing hangs the earth;	εκτείνων βορέαν επ΄ ουδέν κρεμάζων γην επί ουδενός
8binding water in his clouds, and the cloud is not rent under it.	δεσμεύων ύδωρ εν νεφέλαις αυτού και ουκ ερράγη νέφος υποκάτω αυτού
9He keeps back the face of his throne, stretching out his cloud upon it.	ο κρατών πρόσωπον θρόνου εκπετάζων επ΄ αυτόν νέφος αυτού
10He has encompassed the face of the water by an appointed ordinance, until the end of light and darkness.	πρόσταγμα εγύρωσεν επί πρόσωπον ύδατος μέχρι συντελείας φωτός μετά σκότους
11The pillars of heaven are prostrate and astonished at his rebuke.	στύλοι ουρανού επετάσθησαν και εξέστησαν από της επιτιμήσεως αυτού
12He has calmed the sea with his might, and by his wisdom the whale has been overthrown.	ισχύϊ κατέπαυσε την θάλασσαν επιστήμη δε έστρωσε το κήτος
13And the barriers of heaven fear him, and by a command he has slain the apostate dragon.	κλείθρα δε ουρανού δεδοίκασιν αυτόν προστάγματι δε αυτού εθανάτωσε δράκοντα αποστάτην
14Behold, these are parts of his way; and we will hearken to him at the least intimation of his word: but the strength of his thunder who knows, when he shall employ it?	ιδού ταύτα μέρη οδού αυτού και επί ικμάδα λόγου ακουσόμεθα εν αυτώ σθένος δε βροντής αυτού τις οίδεν οπότε ποιήσει

Chapter 27

1And Job further continued and said in his parable,	έτι δε προσθείς Ιωβ είπε τω προοιμίω
2As God lives, who has thus judge me; and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul;	ζη ο θεός ος ούτω με κέκρικε και ο παντοκράτωρ ο πικράνας μου την ψυχήν
3verily, while my breath is yet in me, and the breath of God which remains to me is in my nostrils,	ει έτι της πνοής μου ενούσης πνεύμα δε θείον το περιόν μοι εν ρισί
4my lips shall not speak evil words, neither shall my soul meditate unrighteous thoughts.	μη λαλήσει τα χείλη μου άνομα ουδέ η ψυχή μου μελετήσει άδικα
5Far be it from me that I should justify you till I die; for I will not let go my innocence,	μη μοι είη δικαίους υμάς αποφήναι έως αν αποθάνω ου γαρ απαλλάξω μου την ακακίαν μου
6but keeping fast to my righteousness I will by no means let it go: for I am not conscious to myself of having done any thing amiss.	δικαιοσύνη δε προσέχων ου πρόωμαι ου γαρ σύνοιδα εμαυτώ άτοπα πράξας
7Nay rather, but let mine enemies be as the overthrow of the ungodly, and they that rise up against me, as the destruction of transgressors.	ου μην δε αλλά είησαν οι εχθροί μου ώσπερ η καταστροφή των ασεβών και οι επ΄ εμέ επανιστάμενοι ώσπερ η απώλεια των παρανόμων
8For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved?	και τις γαρ εστιν ελπίς ασεβεί ότι επέχει πεποιθώς επί κύριον άρα σωθήσεται
9Will God hear his prayer? or, when distress has come upon him,	η την δέησιν αυτού εισακούσεται ο θεός η επελθούσης αυτώ ανάγκης
10has he any confidence before him? or will God hear him as he calls upon him?	μη έχει τινά παρρησίαν εναντίον αυτού η ως επικαλεσαμένου αυτού εισακούσεται αυτού
11Yet now I will tell you what is in the hand of the Lord: I will not lie concerning the things which are with the Almighty.	αλλά δη αναγγελώ υμίν τι εστιν εν χειρί κυρίου α εστι παρά παντοκράτορι ου ψεύσομαι
12Behold, ye all know that ye are adding vanity to vanity.	ιδού πάντες οίδατε ότι κενά κενοίς επιβάλλετε
13This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of oppressors shall come upon them from the Almighty.	αύτη η μερίς ανθρώπου ασεβούς παρά κυρίου κτήμα δε δυναστών ελεύσεται παρά παντοκράτορος επ΄ αυτούς
14And if their children be many, they shall be for slaughter: and if they grow up, they shall beg.	εάν δε πολλοί γένωνται οι υιοί αυτού εις σφαγήν έσονται εάν δε και ανδρωθώσι προσαιτήσουσιν
15And they that survive of him shall utterly perish, and no one shall pity their widows.	οι δε περιόντες αυτού θανάτω τελευτήσουσι χήρας δε αυτών ουδείς ελεήσει
16Even if he should gather silver as earth, and prepare gold as clay;	εάν συναγάγη ώσπερ γην αργύριον ίσα δε πηλώ ετοιμάση χρυσίον
17All these things shall the righteous gain, and the truehearted shall possess his wealth.	ταύτα πάντα δίκαιοι περιποιήσονται τα δε χρήματα αυτού αληθινοί καθέξουσιν
18And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web.	απέβη δε ο οίκος αυτού ώσπερ σήτες και ώσπερ αράχνη
19The rich man shall lie down, and shall not continue: he has opened his eyes, and he is not.	πλούσιος κοιμηθήσεται και ου προσθήσει οφθαλμούς αυτού διήνοιξε και ουκ έστι
20Pains have come upon him as water, and darkness has carried him away by night.	συνήντησαν αυτώ ώσπερ ύδωρ αι οδύναι νυκτί δε υφείλετο αυτόν γνόφος
21And a burning wind shall catch him, and he shall depart, and it shall utterly drive him out of his place.	αναλήψεται αυτόν καύσων και απελεύσεται και λικμήσει αυτόν εκ του τόπου αυτού
22And God shall cast trouble upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.	και επιρρίψει επ΄ αυτόν και ου φείσεται εκ χειρός αυτού φυγή φεύξεται
23He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place.	κροτήσει επ΄ αυτόν χείρας αυτού και συριεί αυτόν εκ του τόπου αυτού

Chapter 28

1For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.	εστι γαρ αργυρίω τόπος όθεν γίνεται τόπος δε χρυσίω όθεν διηθείται
2For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.	σίδηρος μεν γαρ εκ γης γίνεται χαλκός δε ίσα λίθω λατομείται
3He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone is darkness, and the shadow of death.	τάξιν έθετο σκότει και παν πέρας αυτός εξακριβάζεται λίθος σκοτία και σκιά θανάτου
4There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from among men.	διακοπή χειμάρρου από κονίας οι δε επιλανθανόμενοι οδόν δικαίαν ησθένησαν εκ βροτών εσαλεύθησαν
5As for the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.	γη εξ αυτής εξελεύσεται άρτος υποκάτω αυτής εστράφη ωσεί πυρ
6Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and her dust supplies man with gold.	τόπος σαπφείρου οι λίθοι και χώμα χρυσίον αυτής
7There is a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:	τρίβος ουκ έγνω αυτήν πετεινόν και ου παρέβλεψεν αυτήν οφθαλμός γυπός
8neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.	ουκ επάτησαν αυτήν υιοί αλαζόνων ου παρήλθεν επ΄ αυτής λέων
9He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp rock, and turned up mountains by the roots:	εν ακροτόμω εξέτεινε χείρα αυτού κατέστρεψε δε εκ ριζών όρη
10and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.	θίνας δε ποταμών διέρρηξε παν δε έντιμον είδέ μου ο οφθαλμός
11And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.	βάθη δε ποταμών ανεκάλυψεν έδειξε δε αυτού δύναμιν εις φως
12But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?	η δε σοφία πόθεν ευρέθη ποίος δε τόπος εστί της επιστήμης
13A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.	ουκ οίδε βροτός οδόν ουδέ μη ευρεθή εν ανθρώποις
14The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.	άβυσσος είπεν ουκ έστιν εν εμοί και η θάλασσα είπεν ουκ έστι μετ΄ εμού
15One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.	ου δώσει συγκλεισμόν αντ΄ αυτής και ου σταθήσεται αργύριον αντάλλαγμα αυτής
16Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.	και ου συμβασταχθήσεται χρυσίω Ωφείρ εν όνυχι τιμίω και σαπφείρω
17Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.	ουκ ισωθήσεται αυτή χρυσίον και ύαλος και το άλλαγμα αυτής σκεύη χρυσά
18Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do thou esteem wisdom above the most precious things.	μετέωρα και γαβίς ου μνησθήσεται και έλκυσον σοφίαν υπέρ τα εσώτατα
19The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.	ουκ ισωθήσεται αυτή τοπάζιον Αιθιοπίας χρυσίω καθαρώ ου συμβασταχθήσεται
20Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?	η δε σοφία πόθεν ευρέθη ποίος δε τόπος εστί της συνέσεως
21It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.	λέληθε πάντα άνθρωπον και από πετεινών του ουρανού εκρύβη
22Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.	η απώλεια και ο θάνατος είπαν ακηκόαμεν αυτής το κλέος
23God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.	ο θεός ευ συνέστησεν αυτής την οδόν αυτός δε οίδε τον τόπον αυτής
24For he surveys the whole earth under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:	αυτός γαρ την υπ΄ ουρανόν πάσαν εφορά ειδώς τα εν τη γη
25all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.	πάντα α εποίησεν ανέμων σταθμόν ύδατος μέτρα
26When he made them, thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.	ότε εποίησεν ούτως ιδών ηρίθμησε και οδόν εν τινάγματι φωνής
27Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it and traced it out.	τότε είδεν αυτήν εξηγήσατο αυτήν ετοιμάσας εξιχνίασεν
28And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.	είπε δε ανθρώπω ιδού η θεοσέβεια εστί σοφία το δε απέχεσθαι από κακών εστίν επιστήμη

Chapter 29

1And Job continued and said in his parable,	έτι δε προσθείς Ιωβ είπε τω προοιμίω
2Oh that I were as in months past, wherein God preserved me!	τις αν με θείη κατά μήνα έμπροσθεν ημερών ων με ο θεός εφύλαξεν
3As when his lamp shone over my head; when by his light I walked through darkness.	ως ότε ηύγει ο λύχνος αυτού υπέρ κεφαλής μου ότε τω φωτί αυτού επορευόμην εν σκότει
4As when I steadfastly pursued my ways, when God took care of my house.	ότε ήμην εν ημέραις νεότητός μου ότε ο θεός επισκοπήν εποιείτο του οίκου μου
5When I was very fruitful, and my children were about me;	ότε ήμην υλώδης λίαν κύκλω δε μου οι παίδες μου
6when my ways were moistened with butter, and the mountains flowed for me with milk.	ότε εχέοντο αι οδοί μου βουτύρω τα δε όρη μου εχέοντο γάλακτι
7When I went forth early in the city, and the seat was placed for me in the streets.	ότε εξεπορευόμην όρθριος εν πόλει εν δε πλατείαις ετίθετό μου ο δίφρος
8The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and all the old men stood up.	ιδόντες με νεανίσκοι εκρύβησαν πρεσβύται δε πάντες έστησαν
9And the great men ceased speaking, and laid their finger on their mouth.	αδροί δε επαύσαντο λαλούντες δάκτυλον επιθέντες επί στόματι
10And they that heard me blessed me, and their tongue clave to their throat.	οι δε ακούσαντες εμακάρισάν με και γλώσσα αυτών τω λάρυγγι αυτών εκολλήθη
11For the ear heard, and blessed me; and the eye saw me, and turned aside.	ότι ωτίον ήκουσε και εμάκαρισέ με οφθαλμός δε ιδών με εξέκλινε
12For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, and helped the fatherless who had no helper.	διέσωσα γαρ πτωχόν εκ χειρός δυνάστου και ορφανώ ω ουκ ην βοηθός εβοήθησα
13Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me.	ευλογία απολλυμένου επ΄ εμέ έλθοι στόμα δε χήρας με ευλόγησε
14Also I put on righteousness, and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle.	δικαιοσύνην δε ενεδεδύκειν ημφιασάμην δε κρίμα ίσα διπλοϊδι
15I was the eye of the blind, and the foot of the lame.	οφθαλμός ήμην τυφλών πους δε χωλών
16I was the father of the helpless; and I searched out the cause which I knew not.	εγώ ήμην πατήρ αδυνάτων δίκην δε ην ουκ ήδειν εξιχνίασα
17And I broke the jaw-teeth of the unrighteous; I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth.	συνέτριψα δε μύλας αδίκων εκ δε μέσων των οδόντων αυτών άρπαγμα εξέσπασα
18And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm-tree; I shall live a long while.	είπα δε η ηλικία μου γηράσει ώσπερ στέλεχος φοίνικος πολύν χρόνον βιώσω
19My root was spread out by the water, and the dew would lodge on my crop.	η ρίζα διήνοικται επί ύδατος και δρόσος αυλισθήσεται εν τω θερισμώ μου
20My glory was fresh in me, and by bow prospered in his hand.	η δόξα μου καινή μετ΄ εμού και το τόξον μου εν χειρί πορεύεται
21Men heard me, and gave heed, and they were silent at my counsel.	εμού ακούσαντες προσέσχον εσιώπησαν δε επί τη εμή βουλή
22At my word they spoke not again, and they were very gland whenever I spoke to them.	επί τω εμώ ρήματι ου προσέθεντο περιχαρείς δε εγίνοντο οπόταν αυτοίς ελάλουν
23As the thirsty earth expecting the rain, so they waited for my speech.	ώσπερ γη διψώσα προσδεχομένη τον υετόν ούτως ούτοι την εμήν λαλιάν
24Were I to laugh on them, they would not believe it; and the light of my face has not failed.	εάν γελάσω προς αυτούς ου πιστεύσωσι και φως του προσώπου μου ουκ απέπιπτεν
25I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors, as one comforting mourners.	εξελεξάμην οδόν αυτών και εκάθισα άρχων και κατεσκήνουν ωσεί βασιλεύς εν μονοζώνοις ον τρόπον παθεινούς παρεκάλουν

Chapter 30

1But now the youngest have laughed me to scorn, now they reprove me in their turn, whose fathers I set at nought; whom I did not deem worthy to be with my shepherd dogs.	νυνί δε κατεγέλασάν μου ελάχιστοι νυν νουθετούσι με εν μέρει ων εξουδένουν τους πατέρας ους ουχ ηγησάμην είναι αξίους κυνών των εμών νομάδων
2Yea, why had I the strength of their hands? for them the full term of life was lost.	και γε ισχύς χειρών αυτών ινατί μοι επ΄ αυτούς απώλετο συντέλεια
3One is childless in want and famine, such as they that fled but lately the distress and misery of drought.	εν ενδεία και λιμώ άγονος οι φεύγοντες άνυδρον εχθές συνοχήν και ταλαιπωρίαν
4Who compass the salt places on the sounding shore, who had salt herbs for their food, and were dishonorable and of no repute, in want of every good thing; who also ate roots of trees by reason of great hunger.	οι περικυκλούντες άλιμα επί ηχούντι οίτινες άλιμα ην αυτών τα σίτα άτιμοι δε και πεφαυλισμένοι ενδεείς παντός αγαθού και οι ριζας ξύλων εμασσώντο υπό λιμού μεγάλου
5Thieves have risen up against me,	επανέστησάν μοι κλέπται
6whose houses were the caves of the rocks, who lived under the wild shrubs.	ων οι οίκοι αυτών ήσαν τρώγλαι πετρών
7They will cry out among the rustling bushes.	αναμέσον ευήχων βοήσονται οι υπό φρύγανα άγρια διητώντο
8They are sons of fools and vile men, whose name and glory are quenched from off the earth.	αφρόνων υιοί και ατίμων όνομα και κλέος εσβεσμένον από γης
9But now I am their music, and they have me for a by-word.	νυνί δε κιθάρα εγώ ειμι αυτών και εμέ θρύλλημα έχουσιν
10And they stood aloof and abhorred me, and spared not to spit in my face.	εβδελύξαντο δε με αποστάντες μακράν από δε προσώπου ουκ εφείσαντο πτύελον
11For he has opened his quiver and afflicted me: they also have cast off the restraint of my presence.	ανοίξας γαρ φαρέτραν αυτού εκάκωσέ με και χαλινόν του προσώπου μου εξαπέστειλεν
12They have risen up against me on the right hand of their offspring; they have stretched out their foot, and directed against me the ways of their destruction.	επί δεξιών βλαστού επανέστησαν πόδας αυτού εξέτεινεν και ωδοποίησεν επ΄ εμέ τρίβους απωλείας αυτών
13My paths are ruined; for they have stripped off my raiment: he has shot at me with his weapons.	εξετρίβησαν τρίβοι μου εξέδυσε γαρ μου την στολήν βέλεσιν αυτού κατηκόντισέ με
14And he has pleaded against me as he will: I am overwhelmed with pains.	κέκριται δε μου ως βούλεται εν οδύναις πέφυρμαι
15My pains return upon me; my hope is gone like the wind, and my safety as a cloud.	επιστρέφονταί μου αι οδύναι ωχετό μου η ελπίς ώσπερ πνεύμα και ώσπερ νέφος η σωτηρία μου
16Even now my life shall be poured forth upon me; and days of anguish seize me.	και νυν επ΄ εμέ εκχυθήσεται η ψυχή μου έχουσι δε με ημέραι οδυνών
17And by night my bones are confounded; and my sinews are relaxed.	νυκτί δε τα οστά μου συγκέκαυται τα δε νεύρά μου διαλέλυται
18With great force my disease has taken hold of my garment: it has compassed me as the collar of my coat.	εν πολλή ισχύϊ επελάβετό μου της στολής ώσπερ το περιστόμιον του χιτώνός μου περιέσχε με
19And thou hast counted me as clay; my portion in dust and ashes.	ήγησαι δε με ίσα πηλώ εν γη και σποδώ μου η μερίς
20And I have cried to thee, but thou hearest me not: but they stood still, and observed me.	κέκραγα δε προς σε και ουκ ακούεις με έστησαν και κατενοήσάν με
21They attacked me also without mercy: thou hast scourged me with a strong hand.	επέβης δε μοι ανελεημόνως χειρί κραταιά με εμαστίγωσας
22And thou hast put me to grief, and hast cast me away from safety.	έταξας δε μοι εν οδύναις και απέρριψάς με από σωτηρίας
23For I know that death will destroy me: for the earth is the house appointed for every mortal.	οίδα γαρ ότι θάνατός με εκτρίψει οικία γαρ παντί θνητώ γη
24Oh then that I might lay hands upon myself, or at least ask another, and he should do this for me.	ει γαρ όφελον δυναίμην εμαυτόν διαχειρώσασθαι η δεηθείς γε ετέρου και ποιήσει μοι τούτο
25Yet I wept over every helpless man; I groaned when I saw a man in distress.	εγώ δε επί παντί αδυνάτω έκλαυσα εστέναξα δε ιδών άνδρα εν ανάγκαις
26But I, when I waited for good things, behold, days of evils came the more upon me.	εγώ επέχων αγαθοίς ιδού συνήντησάν μοι μάλλον ημέραι κακών
27My belly boiled, and would not cease: the days of poverty prevented me.	η κοιλία μου εξέζεσε και ου σιωπήσεται προέφθασάν με ημέραι πτωχείας
28I went mourning without restraint: and I have stood and cried out in the assembly.	στένων πορεύομαι άνευ φιμού έστηκα δε εν εκκλησία κεκραγώς
29I am become a brother of monsters, and a companion of ostriches.	αδελφός γέγονα σειρήνων εταίρος δε στρουθών
30And my skin has been greatly blackened, and my bones are burned with heat.	το δέρμα μου εσκότωται μεγάλως τα δε οστά μου από καύματος
31My harp also has been turned into mourning, and my song into my weeping.	απέβη δε εις πένθος μου η κιθάρα ο δε ψαλμός μου εις κλαυθμόν εμοί

Chapter 31

1I made a covenant with mine eyes, and I will not think upon a virgin.	διαθήκην εθέμην τοις οφθαλμοίς μου και ου συνήσω επί παρθένω
2Now what portion has God given from above? and is there an inheritance given of the Mighty One from the highest?	και τι εμέρισεν ο θεός άνωθεν και κληρονομία ικανού εξ υψίστων
3Alas! destruction to the unrighteous, and rejection to them that do iniquity.	ουαί απώλεια τω αδίκω και απαλλοτρίωσις τοις ποιούσιν ανομίαν
4Will he not see my way, and number all my steps?	ουχί αυτός όψεται οδόν μου και πάντα τα διαβήματά μου εξαριθμήσει
5But if I had gone with scorners, and if too my foot has hasted to deceit:	ει δε ήμην πεπορευμένος μετά γελοιαστών ει εσπούδακεν ο πους μου εις δόλον
6(for I am weighed in a just balance, and the Lord knows my innocence:)	έσταμαι γαρ εν ζυγώ δικαίω ειδε δε ο κύριος την ακακίαν μου
7if my foot has turned aside out of the way, or if mine heart has followed mine eye, and if too I have touched gifts with my hands;	ει εξέκλινεν ο πους μου εκ της οδού ει τω οφθαλμώ επηκολούθησεν η καρδία μου ει ταις χερσί μου ηψάμην δώρων
8then let me sow, and let others eat; and let me be uprooted on the earth.	σπείραιμι άρα και άλλοι φάγοισαν άρριζος δε γενοίμην επί γης
9If my heart has gone forth after another man's wife, and if I laid wait at her doors;	ει εξηκολούθησεν η καρδία μου γυναικί ανδρός ετέρου ει εγκάθετος εγενόμην επί θύραις αυτής
10then let my wife also please another, and let my children be brought low.	αρέσαι άρα και η γυνή μου ετέρω τα δε νήπιά μου ταπεινωθείη
11For the rage of anger is not to be controlled, in the case of defiling another man's wife.	θυμός γαρ οργής ακατάσχετος το μιάναι ανδρός γυναίκα
12For it is a fire burning on every side, and whomsoever it attacks, it utterly destroys.	πυρ γαρ εστι καιόμενον επί πάντων των μερών ουδ΄ αν επέλθοι εκ ριζών απώλεσεν
13And if too I despised the judgment of my servant or my handmaid, when they pleaded with me;	ει εφαύλισα κρίμα θεράποντός μου η θεραπαίνης κρινομένων αυτών προς με
14what then shall I do if the Lord should try me? and if also he should at all visit me, can I make an answer?	τι γαρ ποιήσω εάν έτασίν μου ποιήσηται ο κύριος εάν δε και επισκοπήν τίνα απόκρισιν ποιήσομαι
15Were not they too formed as I also was formed in the womb? yea, we were formed in the same womb.	πότερον ουκ ως και εγώ εγενόμην εν γαστρί και εκείνοι γεγόνασι γεγόναμεν δε εν τη αυτή κοιλία
16But the helpless missed not whatever need they had, and I did not cause the eye of the widow to fail.	αδύνατοι δε χρείαν ην ποτε είχον ουκ απέτυχον χήρας δε τον οφθαλμόν ουκ εξέτηξα
17And if too I ate my morsel alone, and did not impart of it to the orphan;	ει τον ψωμόν μου έφαγον μόνος και ουχί ορφανώ μετέδωκα εξ αυτού
18(for I nourished them as a father from my youth and guided them from my mother's womb.)	ότι εκ νεότητός μου εξέτρεφον ως πατήρ και εκ γαστρός μητρός μου ωδήγησα
19And if too I overlooked the naked as he was perishing, and did not clothe him;	ει υπερείδον γυμνόν απολλύμενον και ουκ ημφίασα
20and if the poor did not bless me, and their shoulders were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs;	αδύνατοι δε ει ευλόγησαν με από δε κουράς αμνών μου εθερμάνθησαν οι ώμοι αυτών
21if I lifted my hand against an orphan, trusting that my strength was far superior to his:	ει επήρα ορφανώ χείρα πεποιθώς ότι πολλή μοι βοήθεια περίεστιν
22let them my shoulder start from the blade-bone, and my arm be crushed off from the elbow.	αποσταίη άρα ο ώμός μου από της κλειδός ο δε βραχίων μου από του αγκώνος συντριβείη
23For the fear of the Lord constrained me, and I cannot bear up by reason of his burden.	φόβος γαρ κυρίου συνέσχε με από του λήμματος αυτού ουχ υποίσω
24If I made gold my treasure, and if too I trusted the precious stone;	ει έταξα χρυσίον εις ισχύν μου ει λίθω πολυτελεί επεποίθησα
25and if too I rejoiced when my wealth was abundant, and if too I laid my hand on innumerable treasures:	ει ευφράνθην πολλού πλούτου μοι γενομένου ει δε και επ΄ αναριθμήτοις εθέμην χείρά
26(do we not see the shining sun eclipsed, and the moon waning? for they have not power to continue:)	η ουχ ορώμεν ήλιον τον επιφαύσκοντα εκλείποντα σελήνην δε φθίνουσαν ου γαρ επ΄ αυτοίς εστι
27and if my heart was secretly deceived, and if I have laid my hand upon my mouth and kissed it:	και ει ηπατήθη λάθρα η καρδία μου ει δε χείρά μου επιθείς επί στόματι μου εφίλησα
28let this also then be reckoned to me as the greatest iniquity: for I should have lied against the Lord Most High.	και τούτό μοι άρα ανομία η μεγίστη λογισθείη ότι εψευσάμην έναντι κυρίου του υψίστου
29And if too I was glad at the fall of mine enemies, and mine heart said, Aha!	ει επιχαρής εγενόμην πτώματι εχθρών μου και είπεν η καρδία μου εύγε
30let then mine ear hear my curse, and let me be a byword among my people in my affliction.	ακούσαι άρα το ους μου την κατάραν μου θρυλληθείην δε άρα υπό λαού μου κακούμενος
31And if too my handmaids have often said, Oh that we might be satisfied with his flesh; (whereas I was very kind:	ει πολλάκις είπον αι θεράπαιναί μου τις αν δώη ημίν των σαρκών αυτού εμπλησθήναι λίαν μου χρηστού οντος
32for the stranger did not lodge without, and my door was opened to every one that came:)	έξω δε ουκ ηυλίζετο ξένος η δε θύρα μου παντί ελθόντι ανέωκτο
33or if too having sinned unintentionally, I hid my sin;	ει αμαρτών ακουσίως έκρυψα την αμαρτίαν μου
34(for I did not stand in awe of a great multitude, so as not to declare boldly before them:) and if too I permitted a poor man to go out of my door with an empty bosom:	ου γαρ διετράπην πολυοχιλίαν πλήθους του μη εξαγορεύσαι ενώπιον αυτών ει είασα αδύνατον εξελθείν την θύραν μου κόλπω κενώ
35(Oh that I had a hearer,) and if I had not feared the hand of the Lord; and as to the written charge which I had against any one,	τις δώη ακούοντά μου χείρα δε κυρίου ει εδεδοίκειν συγγραφήν δε ην είχον κατά τινος
36I would place it as a chaplet on my shoulders, and read it.	επ΄ ώμοις αν περιθέμενος στέφανον ανεγίνωσκον
37And if I did not read it and return it, having taken nothing from the debtor:	και ει ρήξας αυτήν απέδωκα ουθέν λαβών παρά χρεωφειλέτου
38If at any time the land groaned against me, and if its furrows mourned together;	ει επ΄ εμοί ποτέ η γη εστέναξεν ει οι αύλακες αυτής έκλαυσαν ομοθυμαδόν
39and if I ate its strength alone without price, and if I too grieved the heart of the owner of the soil, by taking aught from him:	ει την ισχύν αυτής έφαγον μόνος άνευ τιμής ει ψυχήν κυρίου της γης εκλαβών ελύπησα
40then let the nettle come up to me instead of wheat, and a bramble instead of barley. And Job ceased speaking.	αντί πυρού άρα εξέλθοι μοι κνίδη αντί δε κριθής βάτος και επαύσατο Ιωβ ρήμασιν

Chapter 32

1And his three friends also ceased any longer to answer Job: for Job was righteous before them.	ησύχασαν δε και οι τρεις φίλοι αυτού έτι αντειπείν Ιωβ ην γαρ Ιωβ δίκαιος εναντίον αυτών
2Then Elius the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the country of Ausis, was angered: and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.	ωργίσθη δε Ελιού ο του Βαραχιήλ ο Βουζίτης εκ της συγγενείας Αραμ της Αυσίτιδος χώρας ωργίσθη δε τω Ιωβ σφόδρα διότι απέφηνεν εαυτόν δίκαιον εναντίον του κυρίου
3And he was also very angry with his three friends, because they were not able to return answers to Job, yet set him down for an ungodly man.	και κατά των τριών δε φίλων ωργίσθη σφόδρα ότι ουκ ηδυνήθησαν αποκριθήναι αντίθετα Ιωβ και έθεντο αυτόν είναι ασεβή
4But Elius had forborne to give an answer to Job, because they were older than he.	Ελιού δε υπέμεινε δούναι απόκρισιν Ιωβ ότι πρεσβύτεροι αυτού εισίν ημέραις
5And Elius saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men; and he was angered in his wrath.	και είδεν Ελιού ότι ουκ έστιν απόκρισις εν στόματι των τριών ανδρών και εθυμώθη οργη αυτού
6And Elius the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, I am younger in age, and ye are elder, wherefore I kept silence, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge.	υπολαβών δε Ελιού ο του Βαραχιήλ ο Βουζίτης είπε νεώτερος μεν ειμι τω χρόνω υμείς δε εστέ πρεσβύτεροι διό ησύχασα φοβηθείς του υμίν αναγγείλαι την εμαυτού επιστήμην
7And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom:	είπα δε ουχ ο χρόνος εστίν ο λαλών εν πολλοίς δε έτεσιν ουκ οίδασι σοφίαν
8but there is a spirit in mortals; and the inspiration of the Almighty is that which teaches.	αλλά πνεύμά εστιν εν βροτοίς πνοή δε παντοκράτορός εστιν η διδάσκουσα
9The long-lived are not wise as such; neither do the aged know judgment.	ουχ οι πολυχρόνιοί εισι σοφοί ουδ΄ οι γέροντες οίδασι κρίμα
10Wherefore I said, Hear me, and I will tell you what I know.	διό είπα ακούσατέ μου και αναγγελώ υμίν α οίδα
11Hearken to my words; for I will speak in your hearing, until ye shall have tried the matter with words:	ενωτίζεσθέ μου τα ρήματα ερώ γαρ υμών ακουόντων άχρι ου ετάσητε λόγους
12and I shall understand as far as you; and, behold, there was no one of you that answered Job his words in argument,	και μέχρι υμών συνήσω και ιδού ουκ ην τω Ιωβ ελέγχων ανταποκρινόμενος ρήματα αυτού εξ υμών
13lest ye should say, We have found that we have added wisdom to the Lord.	ίνα μη είπητε εύρομεν σοφίαν κυρίω προσθέμενοι
14And ye have commissioned a man to speak such words.	ανθρώπω δε επετρέψατε λαλήσαι τοιαύτα ρήματα
15They were afraid, they answered no longer; they gave up their speaking.	επτοήθησαν ουκ απεκρίθησαν έτι επαλαίωσαν εξ αυτών λόγους
16I waited, (for I had not spoken,) because they stood still, they answered not.	υπέμεινα ου γαρ ελάλησα ότι έστησαν ουκ απεκρίθησαν
17And Elius continued, and said, I will again speak,	υπολαβών δε Ελιού λέγει πάλιν λαλήσω
18for I am full of words, for the spirit of my belly destroys me.	πλήρης γαρ ειμι ρημάτων ολέκει γαρ με το πνεύμα της γαστρός
19And my belly is as a skin of sweet wine, bound up and ready to burst; or as a brazier's labouring bellows.	η δε γαστήρ μου ώσπερ ασκός γλεύκους ζέων δεδεμένος και ώσπερ φυσητήρ χαλκέως ερρηγώς
20I will speak, that I may open my lips and relieve myself.	λαλήσω ίνα αναπαύσωμαι ανοίξας τα χείλη
21For truly I will not be awed because of man, nor indeed will I be confounded before a mortal.	άνθρωπον γαρ ου αίσχυνθω αλλά μην ουδέ βροτόν ου μη
22For I know not how to respect persons: and if otherwise, even the moths would eat me.	ου γαρ επίσταμαι θαυμάσαι πρόσωπον ει και εμέ σήτες έδονται

Chapter 33

1Howbeit hear, Job, my words, and hearken to my speech.	ου μην δε αλλά άκουσον Ιωβ τα ρήματά μου και λαλιάν ενωτίζου μου
2For behold, I have opened my mouth, and my tongue has spoken.	ιδού γαρ ήνοιξα το στόμα μου και ελάλησεν η γλώσσά μου
3My heart shall be found pure by my words; and the understanding of my lips shall meditate purity.	καθαρά μου η καρδία ρήμασι σύνεσις δε χειλέων μου καθαρά νοήσει
4The Divine Spirit is that which formed me, and the breath of the Almighty that which teaches me.	πνεύμα θείον το ποιήσάν με πνοή δε παντοκράτορός εστιν η διδάσκουσά με
5If thou canst, give me an answer: wait therefore; stand against me, and I will stand against thee.	εάν δύνη δος μοι απόκρισιν προς ταύτα υπόμεινον στήθι κατ΄ εμέ και εγώ κατά σε
6Thou art formed out of the clay as also I: we have been formed out of the same substance.	εκ πηλού διήρτισαι συ ως και εγώ εκ του αυτού διηρτίσμεθα
7My fear shall not terrify thee, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.	ουχ ο φόβος μου σε εκθαμβήσει ουδέ η χειρ μου βαρεία έσται επί σοι
8But thou hast said in mine ears, (I have heard the voice of thy words;) because thou sayest, I am pure, not having sinned;	πλην είπας εν ωσί μου φωνήν ρημάτων σου ακήκοα διότι λέγεις
9I am blameless, for I have not transgressed.	καθαρός ειμι ουχ αμαρτών άμεμπτος γαρ ειμί ου γαρ ηνόμησα
10Yet he has discovered a charge against me, and he has reckoned me as an adversary.	μέμψιν δε κατ΄ εμού εύρεν ήγηται δε με ώσπερ υπεναντίον
11And he has put my foot in the stocks, and has watched all my ways.	έθετο δε εν ξύλω τον πόδα μου εφύλαξε δε μου πάσας τας οδους
12For how sayest thou, I am righteous, yet he has not hearkened to me? for he that is above mortals is eternal.	πως γαρ λέγεις δίκαιός ειμί και ουκ επακήκοέ μου αιώνιος γαρ εστιν ο επάνω βροτών
13But thou sayest, Why has he not heard every word of my cause?	λέγεις δε διατί της δικαιοσύνης μου ουκ επακήκοε παν ρήμα
14For when the Lord speaks once, or a second time,	εν γαρ τω άπαξ λαλήσαι ο κύριος εν δε τω δευτέρω
15sending a dream, or in the meditation of the night; (as when a dreadful alarm happens to fall upon men, in slumberings on the bed:)	ενύπνιον η εν μελέτη νυκτερινή η ως όταν επιπίπτη δεινός φόβος επ΄ ανθρώπους επί νυσταγμάτων επί κοίτης
16then opens he the understanding of men: he scares them with such fearful visions:	τότε ανακαλύπτει νουν ανθρώπων εν είδεσι φόβου τοιούτοις αυτοίς εξεφόβησεν
17to turn a man from unrighteousness, and he delivers his body from a fall.	αποστρέψαι άνθρωπον εξ αδικίας το δε σώμα αυτού από πτώματος ερρύσατο
18He spares also his soul from death, and suffers him not to fall in war.	εφείσατο δε της ψυχής αυτού από θανάτου και μη πεσείν αυτόν εν πολέμω
19And again, he chastens him with sickness on his bed, and the multitude of his bones is benumbed.	πάλιν δε ήλεγξεν αυτόν επί μαλακία επί κοίτης και πλήθος οστών αυτού ενάρκησε
20And he shall not be able to take any food, though his soul shall desire meat;	παν δε βρωτόν σίτου ου δύνηται προσδέξασθαι και η ψυχή αυτού βρώσιν επιθυμήσει
21until his flesh shall be consumed, and he shall shew his bones bare.	έως αν σαπώσιν αυτού αι σάρκες και αποδείξη τα οστά αυτού κενά
22His soul also draws nigh to death, and his life is in Hades.	ήγγισε δε εις θάνατον η ψυχή αυτού η δε ζωή αυτού εν άδη
23Though there should be a thousand messengers of death, not one of them shall wound him: if he should purpose in his heart to turn to the Lord, and declare to man his fault, and shew his folly;	εάν ώσι χίλιοι άγγελοι θανατηφόροι εις αυτών ου τρώσει αυτόν εάν νοήση τη καρδία επιστραφήναι προς κύριον αναγγείλη δε ανθρώπω την εαυτού μέμψιν την δε ανομίαν δείξη
24he will support him, that he should not perish, and will restore his body as fresh plaster upon a wall; and he will fill his bones with morrow.	ανθέξεται του μη πεσείν εις θάνατον ανανεώσει δε αυτού το σώμα ώσπερ αλοιφήν επί τοίχου τα δε οστά αυτού εμπλήσει μυελού
25And he will make his flesh tender as that of a babe, and he will restore him among men in his full strength.	απαλυνεί αυτού τας σάρκας ώσπερ νηπίου αποκαταστήσει δε αυτόν ανδρωθέντα εν ανθρώποις
26And he shall pray to the Lord, and his prayer shall be accepted of him; he shall enter with a cheerful countenance, with a full expression of praise: for he will render to men their due.	ευξάμενος δε προς κύριον και δεκτά αυτώ έσται εισελεύσεται δε προσώπω καθαρώ συν εξηγορία αποδώσει δε ανθρώποις δικαιοσύνην
27Even then a man shall blame himself, saying, What kind of things have I done? and he has not punished me according to the full amount of my sins.	είτα τότε απομέμψεται άνθρωπος αυτός εαυτώ λέγων οία συνετέλουν και ουκ άξια ήτασέ με ων ήμαρτον
28Deliver my soul, that it may not go to destruction, and my life shall see the light.	σώσον ψυχήν μου του μη ελθείν εις διαφθοράν και η ζωή μου φως όψεται
29Behold, all these things, the Mighty One works in a threefold manner with a man.	ιδού ταύτα πάντα εργάται ο ισχυρός οδούς τρεις μετά ανδρός
30And he has delivered my soul from death, that my life may praise him in the light.	και ερρύσατο την ψυχήν μου εκ θανάτου ίνα η ζωή μου εν φωτί αινή αυτόν
31Hearken, Job, and hear me: be silent, and I will speak.	ενωτίζου Ιωβ και άκουέ μου κώφευσον και εγώ ειμι λαλήσω
32If thou hast words, answer me: speak, for I desire thee to be justified.	ει εισί σοι λόγοι αποκρίθητί μοι λάλησον θέλω γαρ δικαιωθήναί σε
33If not, do thou hear me: be silent, and I will teach thee.	ει συ άκουσόν μου κώφευσον και διδάξω σε σοφίαν

Chapter 34

1And Elius continued, and said,	υπολαβών δε Ελιού λέγει
2Hear me, ye wise men; hearken, ye that have knowledge.	ακούσατέ μου σοφοί επιστάμενοι ενωτίζεσθε το καλόν
3For the ear tries words, and the mouth tastes meat.	ότι ους λόγους δοκιμάζει και λάρυγξ γεύεται βρώσιν
4Let us choose judgment to ourselves: let us know amount ourselves what is right.	κρίσιν ελώμεθα εαυτοίς γνώμεν αναμέσον εαυτών ο τι καλόν
5For Job has said, I am righteous: the Lord has removed my judgment.	ότι είρηκεν δίκαιός ειμι ο κύριος απήλλαξέ μου το κρίμα
6And he has erred in my judgment: my wound is severe without unrighteousness of mine.	εψεύσατο δε τω κρίματί βίαιον το βέλος μου άνευ αδικίας
7What man is as Job, drinking scorning like water?	τις ανήρ ώσπερ Ιωβ πίνων μυκτηρισμόν ώσπερ ύδωρ
8saying, I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness, nor had fellowship with workers of iniquity, to go with the ungodly.	ουκ αμαρτών ουδέ ασεβήσας ουδ΄ όλως κοινωνήσαι μετά ποιούντων τα άνομα του πορευθήναι μετά ασεβών
9For thou shouldest not say, There shall be no visitation of a man, whereas there is a visitation on him from the Lord.	μη γαρ είπης ότι ουκ έσται επισκοπή ανδρός και επισκοπή αυτώ παρά κυρίου
10Wherefore hear me, ye that are wise in heart: far be it from me to sin before the Lord, and to pervert righteousness before the almighty.	διό συνετοί καρδίας ακούσατέ μου μη μοι είη έναντι κυρίου ασεβήσαι και έναντι παντοκράτορος ταράξαι το δίκαιον
11Yea, he renders to a man accordingly as each of them does, and in a man's path he will find him.	αλλά αποδιδοί ανθρώπω καθά ποιεί έκαστος αυτών και εν τρίβω ανδρός ευρήσει αυτόν
12And thinkest thou that the Lord will do wrong, or will the Almighty who made the earth wrest judgment?	οίει δε τον κύριον άτοπα ποιήσειν η ο παντοκράτωρ ταράξει κρίσιν ος εποίησε την γην
13And who is he that made the whole world under heaven, and all things therein?	τις δε εστίν ο ποιών την υπ΄ ουρανόν και τα ενόντα πάντα
14For if he would confine, and restrain his spirit with himself;	ει γαρ βούλοιτο συσχείν και το πνεύμα παρ΄ αυτώ κατασχείν
15all flesh would die together, and every mortal would return to the earth, whence also he was formed.	τελευτήσει πάσα σαρξ ομοθυμαδόν πας βροτός εις γην απελεύσεται όθεν και επλάσθη
16Take heed lest he rebuke thee: hear this, hearken to the voice of words.	ει δε μη νουθετή άκουε ταύτα ενωτίζου φωνήν ρημάτων
17Behold then the one that hates iniquities, and that destroys the wicked, who is for ever just.	ίδε συ τον μισούντα άνομα και τον ολλύντα τους πονηρούς όντα αιώνιον δίκαιον
18He is ungodly that says to a king, Thou art a transgressor, that says to princes, O most ungodly one.	ασεβής ο λέγων βασιλεί παρανομείς ασεβέστατος τοις άρχουσιν
19Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honourable man, neither knows how to give honour to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.	ος ουκ επαισχύνθη πρόσωπον εντίμου ουδέ οίδε τιμήν θέσθαι αδροίς θαυμασθήναι πρόσωπα αυτών
20But it shall turn out vanity to them, to cry and beseech a man; for they dealt unlawfully, the poor being turned aside from their right.	κενά δε αυτοίς αποβήσεται το κεκραγέναι και δείσθαι ανδρός εχρήσαντο γαρ παρανόμως εκκλεινομένων αδυνάτων
21For he surveys the works of men, and nothing of what they do has escaped him.	αυτός γαρ ορατής εστιν έργων ανθρώπων λέληθε δε αυτόν ουδέν ων πράσσουσιν
22Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.	ουδέ εστι τόπος του κρυβήναι τους ποιούντας τα άνομα
23For he will not lay upon a man more than right.	ότι ουκ επ΄ άνδρα θήσει έτι
24For the Lord looks down upon all men, who comprehends unsearchable things, glorious also and excellent things without number.	ο κύριος πάντας εφορά ο καταλαμβάνων ανεξιχνίαστα ένδοξά τε και εξαίσια ων ουκ έστιν αριθμός
25Who discovers their works, and will bring night about upon them, and they shall be brought low.	ο γνωρίζων αυτών τα έργα και στρέψει νύκτα και ταπεινωθήσονται
26And he quite destroys the ungodly, for they are seen before him.	έσβεσε δε ασεβείς ορατοί δε εναντίον αυτού
27Because they turned aside from the law of God, and did not regard his ordinances,	ότι εξέκλιναν εκ νόμου θεού δικαιώματα αυτού ουκ επέγνωσαν
28so as to bring before him the cry of the needy; for he will hear the cry of the poor.	του επαγαγείν επ΄ αυτόν κραυγήν πενήτων και κραυγήν πτωχών εισακούσεται
29And he will give quiet, and who will condemn? and he will hide his face, and who shall see him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man also:	και αυτός ησυχίαν παρέξεται και τις καταδικάσεται και κρύψει πρόσωπον και τις όψεται αυτόν και κατά έθνους και κατά ανθρώπου ομού
30causing a hypocrite to be king, because of the waywardness of the people.	βασιλεύων άνθρωπον υποκριτήν από δυσκολίας λαού
31For there is one that says to the Mighty One, I have received blessings; I will not take a pledge:	ότι προς τον ισχυρόν ο λέγων είληφα ουκ ενεχυράσω
32I will see apart from myself: do thou shew me if I have done unrighteousness; I will not do so any more.	άνευ εμαυτού όψομαι συ δείξόν μοι ει αδικίαν ειργασάμην ου προσθήσω
33Will he take vengeance for it on thee, whereas thou wilt put it far from thee? for thou shalt choose, and not I; and what thou knowest, speak thou.	μη παρά σου αποτίσει αυτήν ότι συ απώση ότι συ εκλέξη και ουκ εγώ και τι έγνως λάλησον
34Because the wise in heart shall say this, and a wise man listens to my word.	διό συνετοί καρδίας ερούσι ταύτα ανήρ δε σοφός ακήκοέ μου το ρήμα
35But Job has not spoken with understanding, his words are not uttered with knowledge.	Ιωβ δε ουκ εν συνέσει ελάλησε τα δε ρήματα αυτού ουκ εν επιστήμη
36Howbeit do thou learn, Job: no longer make answer as the foolish:	ου μην δε αλλά μάθε Ιωβ μη δως έτι ανταπόκρισιν ώσπερ οι άφρονες
37that we add not to our sins: for iniquity will be reckoned against us, if we speak many words before the Lord.	ίνα μη προσθώμεν εφ΄ αμαρτίαις ημών ανομία δε εφ΄ ημίν λογισθείη πολλά λαλούντων ρήματα εναντίον του κυρίου

Chapter 35

1And Elius resumed and said,	υπολαβών δε Ελιού λέγει
2What is this that thou thinkest to be according to right? who art thou that thou hast said, I am righteous before the Lord?	τι τούτο ηγήσω εν κρίσει συ τις ει ότι είπας δίκαιός ειμι εναντίον κυρίου
3I will answer thee, and thy three friends.	οτι ερείς τι ποιήσω αμαρτών
4Look up to the sky and see; and consider the clouds, how high they are above thee.	εγώ σοι δώσω απόκρισιν και τοις τρισί φίλοις σου
5If thou hast sinned, what wilt thou do?	ανάβλεψον εις τον ουρανόν και ίδε κατάμαθε νέφη ως υψηλά από σου
6and if too thou hast transgressed much, what canst thou perform?	ει ήμαρτες τι πράξεις ει πολλά ηνόμησας τι δύνασαι ποιήσαι
7And suppose thou art righteous, what wilt thou give him? or what shall he receive of thy hand?	επεί ουν δίκαιος ει τι δώσεις αυτώ η τι εκ χειρός σου λήψεται
8Thy ungodliness may affect a man who is like to thee; or thy righteousness a son of man.	ανδρί τω ομοίω σου η ασέβειά σου και υιώ ανθρώπου η δικαιοσύνη σου
9They that are oppressed of a multitude will be ready to cry out; they will call for help because of the arm of many.	από πλήθους συκοφαντούμενοι κεκράξονται βοήσονται από βραχίονος πολλών
10But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night-watches;	και ουκ είπε που εστιν ο θεός ο ποιήσας με ο κατατάσσων φυλακάς νυκτερινάς
11who makes me to differ from the four-footed beasts of the earth, and from the birds of the sky?	ο διορίζων με από τετραπόδων γης από δε πετεινών ουρανού
12There they shall cry, and none shall hearken, even because of the insolence of wicked men.	εκεί κεκράξονται και ου εισακούση και από ύβρεως πονηρών
13For the Lord desires not to look on error, for he is the Almighty One.	άτοπα γαρ βούλεται ου ιδείν ο κύριος αυτός γαρ ο παντοκράτωρ
14He beholds them that perform lawless deeds, and he will save me: and do thou plead before him, if thou canst praise him, as it is possible even now.	ορατής εστι των συντελούντων τα άνομα και σώσει με κρίθητι δε εναντίον αυτού ει δύνασαι αινέσαι αυτόν ως έστι
15For he is not now regarding his wrath, nor has he noticed severely any trespass.	και νυν ότι ουκ έστιν επισκεπτόμενος οργήν αυτού και ουκ έγνω παραπτώματι σφόδρα
16Yet Job vainly opens his mouth, in ignorance he multiplies words.	και Ιωβ ματαίως ανοίγει το στόμα αυτού εν αγνωσία ρήματα βαρύνει

Chapter 36

1And Elius further continued, and said,	προσθείς δε έτι Ελιού λέγει
2Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach thee: for there is yet speech in me.	μείνόν με μικρόν έτι ίνα διδάξω σε έτι γαρ εν εμοί εστι λέξις
3Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,	αναλαβών την επιστήμην μου μακράν έργοις δε μου
4I will speak just things truly, and thou shalt not unjustly receive unjust words.	δίκαια ερώ επ΄ αληθείας και ουκ άδικα ρήματα αδίκως συνιείς
5But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,	γίνωσκε δε ότι ο κύριος ου αποποιήσηται τον άκακον δυνατός ισχύϊ καρδίαν
6he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgment of the poor.	ασεβή ου ζωοποιήση και κριμα πτωχών δώσει
7He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but they shall be with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.	ουκ αφελεί από δικαίου οφθαλμούς αυτού και μετά βασιλέων εις θρόνον καθιεί αυτούς εις νίκος και υψωθήσονται
8But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.	και οι πεπεδημένοι εν χειροπέδαις συσχεθήσονται εν σχοινίοις πενίας
9And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.	και αναγγελεί αυτοίς τα έργα αυτών και τα παραπτώματα αυτών ότι ισχύσουσιν
10But he will hearken to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.	αλλά του δικαίου εισακούσεται και είπεν ότι επιστραφήσονται εξ αδικίας
11If they should hear and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour.	εάν ακούσωσι και δουλεύσωσι συντελέσουσι τας ημέρας αυτών εν αγαθοίς και τα έτη αυτών εν ευπρεπείαις
12But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.	ασεβείς δε ου διασώζει παρά το μη βούλεσθαι αυτούς ειδέναι τον κύριον και διότι νουθετούμενοι ανήκοοι ήσαν
13And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath against themselves; they will not cry, because he has bound them.	και υποκριταί καρδία τάξουσι θυμόν ου βοήσονται ότι έδησεν αυτούς
14Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers of death.	αποθάνοι τοίνυν εν νεότητι η ψυχή αυτών η δε ζωή αυτών τιτρωσκομένη υπό αγγέλων
15Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek.	ανθ΄ έθλιψαν ασθενή και αδύνατον κρίμα δε πραέων εκθήσει
16And he has also enticed thee out of the mouth of the enemy:	και προς επεί ηπάτησεν εκ στόματος εχθρού άβυσσος κατάχυσις υποκάτω αυτής και κατέβη τράπεζά σου πλήρης πιότητος
17there is a deep gulf and a rushing stream beneath it, and thy table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous;	ουχ υστερήσει δε από δικαίων κρίμα
18but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.	θυμός δε επ΄ ασεβείς έσται δι΄ ασεβείας δώρων ων εδέχοντο επ΄ αδικίαις
19Let not thy mind willingly turn thee aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.	μη σε εκκλινάτω εκών ο νους δεήσεως εν ανάγκη όντων αδυνάτων και πάντας τους κραταιούντας ισχύν
20And draw not forth all the mighty men by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.	μη εξελκύσης την νύκτα του αναβήναι άλλους αντ΄ αυτών
21But take heed lest thou do that which is wrong: for of this thou has made choice because of poverty.	αλλά φύλαξαι μη πράξης άτοπα από τούτων γαρ εξείλου από πτωχείας
22Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?	ιδού ο ισχυρός κραταιώσει εν ισχύϊ αυτού τις γαρ εστι κατ΄ αυτόν δυνάστης
23And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, he has wrought injustice?	τις δε εστιν ο ετάζων αυτού τα έργα η τις ο είπας έπραξεν άδικα
24Remember that his works are great beyond those which men have attempted.	μνήσθητι ότι μεγάλα τα έργα αυτού εστιν ων ήρξαν άνδρες
25Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.	πας άνθρωπος είδεν εν εαυτώ όσοι τιτρωσκόμενοί εισι βροτοί
26Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know him: the number of his years is even infinite.	ιδού ο ισχυρός πολύς και ου γνωσόμεθα αριθμός ετών αυτού και απέραντος
27And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.	αριθμηταί δε αυτώ σταγόνες υετού και επιχυθήσονται υετώ εις νεφέλην
28The ancient heavens shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. Yet by all these things thy understanding is not astonished, neither is thy mind disturbed in thy body.	ρυήσονται παλαιώματα εσκίασε δε νέφη επί αμυθήτων βροτών
29And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, or the measure of his tabernacle;	και εάν συνή επεκτάσεις νεφέλης ισότητα σκηνής αυτού
30behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.	ιδού εκτένει επ΄ αυτήν ηδώ και ριζώματα της θαλάσσης εκάλυψεν
31For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.	εν γαρ αυτοίς κρινεί λαούς δώσει τροφήν τω ισχύοντι
32He has hidden the light in his hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing cloud.	επί χειρών εκάλυψε φως και ενετείλατο περί αυτής εν απαντώντι
33The Lord will declare concerning this to his friend: but there is a portion also for unrighteousness.	αναγγελεί περί αυτού φίλον αυτού κτήσις και περί αδικίας

Chapter 37

1At this also my heart is troubled, and moved out of its place.	και από ταύτης εταράχθη η καρδία μου και απερρύη εκ του τόπου αυτής
2Hear thou a report by the anger of the Lord's wrath, and a discourse shall come out of his mouth.	άκουε ακοήν εν οργή θυμού κυρίου και μελέτη εκ στόματος αυτού εξελεύσεται
3His dominion is under the whole heaven, and his light is at the extremities of the earth.	υποκάτω παντός του ουρανού η αρχή και το φως αυτού επί πτερύγων της γης
4After him shall be a cry with a loud voice; he shall thunder with the voice of his excellency, yet he shall not cause men to pass away, for one shall hear his voice.	οπίσω αυτού βοήσεται φωνή βροντήσει εν φωνή ύβρεως αυτού και ουκ ανταλλάξει αυτούς ότι ακούσει φωνήν αυτού
5The Mighty One shall thunder wonderfully with his voice: for he has done great things which we knew not;	βροντήσει ο ισχυρός εν φωνή αυτού θαυμασία ώραν έθετο κτήνεσιν οίδασι δε κοίτης τάξιν επί τούτοις πάσιν ουκ εξίσταταί σου η διάνοια ουδέ διαλλάσσεταί σου η καρδία από σώματος εποίησε γαρ μεγάλα α ουκ ήδειμεν
6commanding the snow, Be thou upon the earth, and the stormy rain, and the storm of the showers of his might.	συντάσσων χιόνι γίνου επί γης και χειμών υετόν δυναστείας αυτού
7He seals up the hand of every man, that every man may know his own weakness.	εν χειρί παντός ανθρώπου κατασφραγίζει ίνα γνώ πας άνθρωπος την εαυτού ασθένειαν
8And the wild beasts come in under the covert, and rest in their lair.	εισήλθε δε θηρία υπό την σκέπην ησύχασαν δε επί κοίτης
9Troubles come on out of the secret chambers, and cold from the mountain-tops.	εκ ταμιείων επέρχονται οδύναι από δε ακρωτηρίων ψύχος
10And from the breath of the Mighty One he will send frost; and he guides the water in whatever way he pleases.	και από πνοής ισχυρού δώσει πάγος οιακίζει δε το ύδωρ ως εάν βούληται
11And if a cloud obscures what is precious to him, his light will disperse the cloud.	και εκλεκτόν καταπλάσσει νεφέλη διασκορπιεί νέφος φως αυτού
12And he will carry round the encircling clouds by his governance, to perform their works: whatsoever he shall command them,	και αυτός κυκλώματα διαστρέψει εν θεεβουλαθώθ εις έργα αυτών πάντα όσα αν εντείληται αυτοίς
13this has been appointed by him on the earth, whether for correction, or for his land, or if he shall find him an object for mercy.	ταύτα συντέτακται παρ΄ αυτού επί της γης εάν εις παιδείαν εάν εις την γην αυτού εάν εις έλεος ευρήσει αυτόν
14Hearken to this, O Job: stand still, and be admonished of the power of the Lord.	ενωτίζου ταύτα Ιωβ στήθι νουθετού δύναμιν κυρίου
15We know that god has disposed his works, having made light out of darkness.	οίδαμεν ότι ο θεός έθετο τα έργα αυτού φως ποιήσας εκ σκότους
16And he knows the divisions of the clouds, and the signal overthrows of the ungodly.	επίσταται δε διάκρισιν νεφών εξαίσια δε πτώματα πονηρών
17But thy robe is warm, and there is quiet upon the land.	σου δε η στολή θερμή ησυχάζεται επί της γης από νότου
18Wilt thou establish with him foundations for the ancient heavens? they are strong as a molten mirror.	στερεώσεις μετ΄ αυτού εις παλαιώματα ισχυραί ως οράσις επιχύσεως
19Wherefore teach me, what shall we say to him? and let us cease from saying much.	διατί δίδαξόν με τι ερούμεν αυτώ και παυσώμεθα πολλά λέγοντες
20Have I a book or a scribe my me, that I may stand and put man to silence?	μη βίβλος η γραμματεύς μοι παρέστηκεν ίνα άνθρωπον εστηκώς κατασιωπήσω
21But the light is not visible to all: it shines afar off in the heavens, as that which is from him in the clouds.	πάσι δε ουχ ορατόν το φως τηλαυγές εστιν εν τοις παλαιώμασιν ώσπερ το παρ΄ αυτού επί νεφών
22From the north come the clouds shining like gold: in these great are the glory and honour of the Almighty;	από βορρά νέφη χρυσαυγούντα επί τούτοις μεγάλη η δόξα και τιμή παρά παντοκράτορος
23and we do not find another his equal in strength: as for him that judges justly, dost thou not think that he listens?	και ουχ ευρίσκομεν άλλον όμοιον τη ισχύϊ αυτού ο τα δίκαια κρίνων ουκ οίει εισακούειν αυτόν
24Wherefore men shall fear him; and the wise also in heart shall fear him.	διο φοβηθήσονται αυτόν οι άνθρωποι φοβηθήσονται δε αυτόν και οι σοφοί καρδία

Chapter 38

1And after Elius had ceased from speaking, the Lord spoke to Job through the whirlwind and clouds, saying,	μετά δε το παύσασθαι Ελιού της λέξεως είπεν ο κύριος τω Ιωβ διά λαίλαπος και νεφέλης
2Who is this that hides counsel from me, and confines words in his heart, and thinks to conceal them from me?	τις ούτος ο κρύπτων βουλήν συνέχων δε ρήματα εν καρδία εμέ δε οίεται κρύπτειν
3Gird thy loins like a man; and I will ask thee, and do thou answer me.	ζώσαι ώσπερ ανήρ την οσφύν σου ερωτήσω δε σε συ δε μοι αποκρίθητι
4Where wast thou when I founded the earth? tell me now, if thou hast knowledge,	που ης εν τω θεμελιούν με την γην απάγγελον δε μοι ει επίστη σύνεσιν
5who set the measures of it, if thou knowest? or who stretched a line upon it?	τις έθετο τα μέτρα αυτής ει οίδας η τις ο επαγαγών σπαρτίον επ΄ αυτής
6On what are its rings fastened? and who is he that laid the corner-stone upon it?	επί τίνος οι κρίκοι αυτής πεπήγασι τις δε εστιν ο βαλών λίθον γωνιαίον επ΄ αυτής
7When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.	ότε εγενήθησαν άστρα ήνεσάν με φωνή μεγάλη πάντες άγγελοί μου
8And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb.	έφραξα δε θάλασσαν πύλαις ότε εμαίμασσεν εκ κοιλίας μητρός αυτής εκπορευομένη
9And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.	εθέμην δε αυτή νέφος αμφίασιν ομίχλη δε αυτήν εσπαργάνωσα
10And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates.	εθέμην δε αυτή όρια περιθείς κλείθρα και πύλας
11And I said to it, Hitherto shalt thou come, but thou shalt not go beyond, but thy waves shall be confined within thee.	είπα δε αυτή μέχρι τούτου ελεύση και ουχ υπερβήση αλλ΄ εν σεαυτή συντριβήσονταί σου τα κύματα
12Or did I order the morning light in thy time; and did the morning star then first see his appointed place;	η επί σου συντέταχα φέγγος πρωϊνόν Εωσφόρος δε είδε την εαυτού τάξιν
13to lay hold of the extremities of the earth, to cast out the ungodly out of it?	επιλαβέσθαι πτερύγων γης εκτινάξαι ασεβείς εξ αυτής
14Or didst thou take clay of the ground, and form a living creature, and set it with the power of speech upon the earth?	η συ λαβών γης πηλόν έπλασας ζώον και λαλητόν αυτόν έθου επί γης
15And hast thou removed light from the ungodly, and crushed the arm of the proud?	αφείλες δε από ασεβών το φως βραχίονα δε υπερηφάνων συνέτριψας
16Or hast thou gone to the source of the sea, and walked in the tracks of the deep?	ήλθες επί πηγήν θαλάσσης εν δε ίχνεσιν αβύσσου περιεπάτησας
17And do the gates of death open to thee for fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw thee?	ανοίγονται δε σοι φόβω πύλαι θανάτου πυλωροί δε άδου ιδόντες σε έπτηξαν
18And hast thou been instructed in the breadth of the whole earth under heaven? tell me now, what is the extent of it?	νενουθέτησαι δε το εύρος της υπ΄ ουρανόν ανάγγειλον δη μοι πόση τις εστι
19And in what kind of a land does the light dwell? and of what kind is the place of darkness?	ποία δε γη αυλίζεται το φως σκότους δε ποίος ο τόπος
20If thou couldest bring me to their utmost boundaries, and if also thou knowest their paths;	ει αγάγοις με εις όρια αυτών ει επίστασαι τρίβους αυτών
21I know then that thou wert born at that time, and the number of thy years is great.	οίδας άρα ότι τότε γεγέννησαι αριθμός δε ετών σου πολύς
22But hast thou gone to the treasures of snow? and hast thou seen the treasures of hail?	ήλθες δε επί θησαυρούς χιόνος θησαυρούς δε χαλάζης εώρακας
23And is there a store of them, for thee against the time of thine enemies, for the day of wars and battle?	απόκειται δε σοι εις ώραν εχθρών εις ημέραν πολέμου και μάχης
24And whence proceeds the frost? or whence is the south wind dispersed over the whole world under heaven?	πόθεν δε εκπορεύεται πάχνη η διασκεδάννυται νότος εις την υπ΄ ουρανόν
25And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;	τις δε ητοίμασεν υετώ λάβρω ρύσιν οδόν δε κυδοιμώ
26to rain upon the land where there is no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited land,	του υετίσαι επί γην ου ουκ ανήρ έρημον ου ουχ υπάρχει άνθρωπος εν αυτή
27and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?	του χορτάσαι άβατον και αοίκητον και του εκβλαστήσαι έξοδον χλόης
28Who is the rain's father? and who has generated the drops of dew?	τις εστίν υετού πατήρ τις δε εστίν ο τετοκώς βώλους δρόσου
29And out of whose womb comes the ice? and who has produced the frost in the sky,	εκ γαστρός δε τίνος εκπορεύεται ο κρύσταλλος πάχνην δε εν ουρανώ τις τέτοκεν
30which descends like flowing water? who has terrified the face of the ungodly?	η καταβαίνει ώσπερ ύδωρ ρέον πρόσωπον δε αβύσσου τις έπτηξε
31And dost thou understand the band of Pleias, and hast thou opened the barrier of Orion?	συνήκας δε δεσμόν Πλειάδος και φραγμόν Ωρίωνος ήνοιξας
32Or wilt thou reveal Mazuroth in his season, and the evening star with his rays? Wilt thou guide them?	η διανοίξεις Μαζουρώθ εν καιρώ αυτού και Έσπερον επί κόμης αυτού άξεις αυτόν
33And knowest thou the changes of heaven, or the events which take place together under heaven?	επίστασαι δε τροπάς ουρανού η τα υπ΄ ουρανόν ομοθυμαδόν γινόμενα
34And wilt thou call a cloud with thy voice, and will it obey thee with a violent shower of much rain?	καλέσεις δε νέφος φωνή και τρόμω ύδατος λάβρου υπακούσεταί σοι
35And wilt thou send lightnings, and they shall go? and shall they say to thee, What is thy pleasure?	αποστελείς δε καραυνούς και πορεύσονται ερούσι δε σοι τι εστί
36And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?	τις δε έδωκε γυναιξίν υφάσματος σοφίαν η ποικιλτικήν επιστήμην
37And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven down to the earth?	τις δε ο αριθμών νέφη σοφία ουρανόν δε εις γην έκλινε
38For it is spread out as dusty earth, and I have cemented it as one hewn stone to another.	κέχυται δε ώσπερ γη κονία κεκόλληκα δε αυτόν ώσπερ λίθω κύβον
39And wilt thou hunt a prey for the lions? and satisfy the desires of the serpents?	θηρεύσεις δε λέουσι βοράν ψυχάς δε δρακόντων εμπλήσεις
40For they fear in their lairs, and lying in wait couch in the woods.	δεδοίκασι γαρ εν κοίταις αυτών κάθηνται δε εν ύλαις ενεδρεύοντες
41And who has prepared food for the raven? for its young ones wander and cry to the Lord, in search of food.	τις δε ητοίμασε κόρακι βοράν νεοσσοί γαρ αυτού προς κύριον κεκράγασι πλανώμενοι τα σίτα ζητούντες

Chapter 39

1Say if thou knowest the time of the bringing forth of the wild goats of the rock, and if thou hast marked the calving of the hinds:	ει έγνως καιρόν τοκετού τραγελάφων πέτρας εφύλαξας δε ωδίνας ελάφων
2and if thou has hast numbered the full months of their being with young, and if thou hast relieved their pangs:	ηρίθμησας δε μήνας αυτών πλήρεις τοκετού ωδίνας δε αυτών έλυσας
3and hast reared their young without fear; and wilt thou loosen their pangs?	εξέθρεψας δε αυτών τα παιδία έξω φόβου ωδίνας δε αυτών εξαποστελείς
4Their young will break forth; they will be multiplied with offspring: their young will go forth, and will not return to them.	απορρήξουσι τα τέκνα αυτών πληθυνθήσονται εν γεννήματι εξελεύσονται και ου ανακάμψουσιν αυτοίς
5And who is he that sent forth the wild ass free? and who loosed his bands?	τις δε εστίν ο αφείς όνον άγριον ελεύθερον δεσμούς δε αυτού τις έλυσεν
6whereas I made his habitation the wilderness, and the salt land his coverts.	εθέμην δε την δίαιταν αυτού έρημον και τα σκηνώματα αυτού αλμυρίδα
7He laughs to scorn the multitude of the city, and hears not the chiding of the tax-gatherer.	καταγελών πολυοχλίας πόλεως μέμψιν δε φορολόγου ουκ ακούων
8He will survey the mountains as his pasture, and he seeks after every green thing.	κατασκέψεται όρη νομήν αυτού και οπίσω παντός χλωρού ζητεί
9And will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or to lie down at thy manger?	βουλήσεται δε σοι μονόκερος δουλεύσαι η κοιμηθήναι επί φάτνης σου
10And wilt thou bind his yoke with thongs, or will he plough furrows for thee in the plain?	δήσεις δε εν ιμάσι ζυγόν αυτού η ελκύσει σου αύλακας εν πεδίω
11And dost thou trust him, because his strength is great? and wilt thou commit thy works to him?	πέποιθας δε επ΄ αυτώ ότι πολλή ισχύς αυτού επαφήσεις δε αυτώ τα έργα σου
12And wilt thou believe that he will return to thee thy seed, and bring it in to thy threshing-floor?	πιστεύσεις δε ότι αποδώσει σοι τον σπόρον εισοίσει δε σου τον άλωνα
13The peacock has a beautiful wing: if the stork and the ostrich conceive, it is worthy of notice,	πτέρυξ τερπομένων νεελάσσα εάν συλλάβη ασίδα και νέσσα
14for the ostrich will leave her eggs in the ground, and warm them on the dust,	ότι αφήσει εις γην τα ωά αυτής και επί χουν θάλψει
15and has forgotten that the foot will scatter them, and the wild beasts of the field trample them.	και επελάθετο ότι πους σκορπιεί και θηρία αγρού καταπατήσει
16She has hardened herself against her young ones, as though she bereaved not herself: she labours in vain without fear.	απεσκλήρυνε τα τέκνα αυτής ώστε μη εαυτήν εις κενόν εκοπίασεν άνευ φόβου
17For God has withholden wisdom from her, and not given her a portion in understanding.	ότι κατεσιώπησεν αυτή ο θεός σοφίαν και ουκ εμέρισεν αυτή εν τη συνέσει
18In her season she will lift herself on high; she will scorn the horse and his rider.	κατά καιρόν εν ύψει υψώσει καταγελάσεται ίππου και του επιβάτου αυτού
19Hast thou invested the horse with strength, and clothed his neck with terror?	η συ περιέθηκας ίππω δύναμιν ενέδυσας τραχήλω αυτού φόβον
20And hast thou clad him in perfect armour, and made his breast glorious with courage?	περιέθηκας δε αυτώ πανοπλίαν δόξα δε στήθεων τόλμη
21He paws exulting in the plain, and goes forth in strength into the plain.	ανορύσσων εν πεδίω γαυριά εκπορεύεται δε εις πεδίον εν ισχύϊ
22He laughs to scorn a king as he meets him, and will by no means turn back from the sword.	συναντών βέλη καταγελά και ου αποστραφή από σιδήρου
23The bow and sword resound against him; and his rage will swallow up the ground:	επ΄ αυτώ γαυριά τόξον και μάχαιρα
24and he will not believe until the trumpet sounds.	και οργή αφανιεί την γην ου πιστεύση έως αν σημάνη σάλπιγξ
25And when the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha! and afar off he smells the war with prancing and neighing.	σάλπιγγος δε σημαινούσης λέγει εύγε πόρρωθεν δε οσφραίνεται πολέμου συν άλματι και κραυγή
26And does the hawk remain steady by thy wisdom, having spread out her wings unmoved, looking toward the region of the south?	εκ δε της σης επιστήμης έστηκεν ιέραξ αναπετάσας τας πτέρυγας ακίνητος καθορών τα προς νότον
27And does the eagle rise at thy command, and the vulture remain sitting over his nest,	επί δε τω σω προστάγματι υψούται αετός γυψ δε επί νοσσιάς αυτού καθεσθείς αυλίζεται
28on a crag of a rock, and in a secret place?	επ΄ εξοχή πέτρας και αποκρύφω
29Thence he seeks food, his eyes observe from far.	εκείσε ων ζητεί τα σίτα πόρρωθεν οι οφθαλμοί αυτού σκοπεύουσι
30And his young ones roll themselves in blood, and wherever the carcasses may be, immediately they are found.	νεοσσοί δε αυτού φύρονται εν αίματι ου δ΄ αν ώσι τεθνεώτες παραχρήμα ευρίσκονται
31And the Lord God answered Job, and said,
32Will any one pervert judgment with the Mighty One? and he that reproves God, let him return it for answer.
33And Job answered and said to the Lord,
34Why do I yet plead? being rebuked even while reproving the Lord: hearing such things, whereas I am nothing: and what shall I answer to these arguments? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
35I have spoken once; but I will not do so a second time.

Chapter 40

1And the Lord yet again answered and spoke to Job out of the cloud, saying,	και απεκρίθη κύριος ο θεός τω Ιωβ και είπε
2Nay, gird up now thy loins like a man; and I will ask thee, and do thou answer me.	μη κρίσιν μετά ικανού κρίνεις ελέγχων θεόν αποκριθήσεται αυτώ
3Do not set aside my judgment: and dost thou think that I have dealt with thee in any other way, than that thou mightest appear to be righteous?	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ λέγει τω κυρίω
4Hast thou an arm like the Lord's? or dost thou thunder with a voice like his?	τι έτι εγώ κρίνομαι νουθετούμενος και ελέγχων κύριον ακούων τοιαύτα ουθέν ων εγώ δε τίνα απόκρισιν δω προς ταύτα χείρα θήσω επί στόματι μου
5Assume now a lofty bearing and power; and clothe thyself with glory and honour.	άπαξ λελάληκα επι δε τω δευτέρω ου προσθήσω
6And send forth messengers with wrath; and lay low every haughty one.	έτι δε υπολαβών ο κύριος είπε τω Ιωβ εκ του νέφους
7Bring down also the proud man; and consume at once the ungodly.	μη αλλά ζώσαι ώσπερ ανήρ την οσφύν σου ερωτήσω δε σε συ δε μοι αποκρίθητι
8And hide them together in the earth; and fill their faces with shame.	η αποποίη μου το κρίμα οίει δε με άλλως σοι κεχρηματικέναι η ίνα αναφανής δίκαιος
9Then will I confess that thy right hand can save thee.	η βραχίων σοι εστι κατά του κυρίου η φωνή κατ΄ αυτόν βροντάς
10But now look at the wild beasts with thee; they eat grass like oxen.	ανάλαβε δε ύψος και δύναμιν δόξαν δε και τιμήν αμφίασαι
11Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.	απόστειλον δε αγγέλους οργή πάντα δε υβριστήν ταπείνωσον
12He sets up his tail like a cypress; and his nerves are wrapped together.	υπερήφανον δε σβέσον σήψον δε ασεβείς παραχρήμα
13His sides are sides of brass; and his backbone is as cast iron.	κρύψον δε εις γην ομοθυμαδόν τα δε πρόσωπα αυτών ατιμίας έμπλησον
14This is the chief of the creation of the Lord; made to be played with by his angels.	και γε εγώ ομολογήσω άρα ότι δύναται η δεξιά σου σώσαι
15And when he has gone up to a steep mountain, he causes joy to the quadrupeds in the deep.	αλλά δη ιδού θηρία παρά σοι χόρτον ίσα βουσίν εσθίει
16He lies under trees of every kind, by the papyrus, and reed, and bulrush.	ιδού δη η ισχύς αυτού επ΄ οσφύϊ η δε δύναμις αυτού επ΄ ομφαλού γαστρός
17And the great trees make a shadow over him with their branches, and so do the bushes of the field.	έστησεν ουράν ως κυπάρισσον τα δε νεύρα αυτού συμπέπλεκται
18If there should be a flood, he will not perceive it; he trust that Jordan will rush up into his mouth.	αι πλευραί αυτού πλευραί χάλκειαι η δε ράχις αυτού σίδηρος χυτός
19Yet one shall take him in his sight; one shall catch him with a cord, and pierce his nose.	τουτ΄ αρχή πλάσματος κυρίου πεποιημένον εγκαταπαίζεσθαι υπό των αγγέλων αυτού
20But wilt thou catch the serpent with a hook, and put a halter about his nose?	επελθών δε επ΄ όρος ακρότομον εποίησε χαρμονήν τετράποσιν εν τω ταρτάρω
21Or wilt thou fasten a ring in his nostril, and bore his lip with a clasp?	υπό παντοδαπά δένδρα κοιμάται παρά πάπυρον και κάλαμον και βούτομον
22Will he address thee with a petition? softly, with the voice of a suppliant?	σκιάζονται δε αυτώ δένδρα συν οροδάμνοις και κλώνες άγνου
23And will he make a covenant with thee? and wilt thou take him for a perpetual servant?	εάν γένηται πλημμύρα ου αισθηθή πέποιθεν ότι προσκρούσει ο Ιορδάνης εις το στόμα αυτού
24And wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or bind him as a sparrow for a child?	εν τω οφθαλμώ αυτού δέξεται αυτόν ενσκολιευόμενος τρήσει ρίνα
25And do the nations feed upon him, and the nations of the Phoenicians share him?
26And all the ships come together would not be able to bear the mere skin of his tail; neither shall they carry his head in fishing-vessels.
27But thou shalt lay thy hand upon him once, remembering the war that is waged by his mouth; and let it not be done any more.

Chapter 41

1Hast thou not seen him? and hast thou not wondered at the things said of him? Dost thou not fear because preparation has been made by me? for who is there that resists me?	άξεις δε δράκοντα εν αγκίστρω περιθήσεις δε φορβέαν περί ρίνα αυτού
2Or who will resist me, and abide, since the whole world under heaven is mine?	η δήσεις κρίκον εν τω μυκτήρι αυτού ψελλίω δε τρυπήσεις το χείλος αυτού
3I will not be silent because of him: though because of his power one shall pity his antagonist.	λαλήσει δε σοι δεήσεις ικετηρίας μαλακώς
4Who will open the face of his garment? and who can enter within the fold of his breastplate?	θήσεται δε μετά σου διαθήκην λήψη δε αυτόν δούλον αιώνιον
5Who will open the doors of his face? terror is round about his teeth.	παίξη δε εν αυτώ ώσπερ ορνέω η δήσεις αυτόν ώσπερ στρουθίον παιδίω
6His inwards are as brazen plates, and the texture of his skin as a smyrite stone.	ενσιτούνται δε εν αυτώ έθνη μεριτεύονται δε αυτόν Φοινίκων έθνη
7One part cleaves fast to another, and the air cannot come between them.	παν δε πλωτόν συνελθόν ου ενέγκωσι βύρσαν μίαν ουράς αυτού και εν πλοίοις αλιέων κεφαλήν αυτού
8They will remain united each to the other: they are closely joined, and cannot be separated.	επιθήσεις δε αυτώ χείρα μνησθείς πόλεμον τον γινόμενον εν σώματι αυτού και μηκέτι γινέσθω
9At his sneezing a light shines, and his eyes are as the appearance of the morning star.	ουχ εώρακας αυτόν ουδέ επί τοις λεγομένοις τεθαύμακας
10Out of his mouth proceed as it were burning lamps, and as it were hearths of fire are cast abroad.	ου δέδοικας ότι ητοίμασταί μοι τις γαρ εστίν ο εμοί αντιστάς
11Out of his nostrils proceeds smoke of a furnace burning with fire of coals.	η τις αντιστήσεταί μοι και υπομενεί ει πάσα η υπ΄ ουρανόν εμή εστιν
12His breath is as live coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth.	ου σιωπήσομαι δι΄ αυτόν και λόγον δυνάμεως ελεήσει τον ίσον αυτώ
13And power is lodged in his neck, before him destruction runs.	τις αποκαλύψει πρόσωπον ενδύσεως αυτού εις δε πτύξιν θώρακος αυτού τις αν εισέλθοι
14The flesh also of his body is joined together: if one pours violence upon him, he shall not be moved.	πύλας προσώπου αυτού τις ανοίξει κύκλω οδόντων αυτού φόβος
15His heart is firm as a stone, and it stands like an unyielding anvil.	τα έγκατα αυτού ασπίδες χαλκαί σύνδεσμος δε αυτού ώσπερ σμυρίτης λίθος
16And when he turns, he is a terror to the four-footed wild beasts which leap upon the earth.	εις του ενός κολλώνται πνεύμα δε ου διέλθη αυτόν
17If spears should come against him, men will effect nothing, either with the spear or the breast-plate.	ως ανήρ τω αδελφώ αυτού προσκολληθήσονται συνέχονται και ου αποσπασθώσιν
18For he considers iron as chaff, and brass as rotten wood.	εν πταρμώ αυτού επιφαύσκεται φέγγος οι δε οφθαλμοί αυτού είδος Εωσφόρου
19The bow of brass shall not would him, he deems a slinger as grass.	εκ στόματος αυτού εκπορεύονται λαμπάδες καιόμεναι και διαρριπτούνται εσχάραι πυρός
20Mauls are counted as stubble; and he laughs to scorn the waving of the firebrand.	εκ μυκτήρων αυτού εκπορεύεται καπνός καμίνου καιομένης πυρί ανθράκων
21His lair is formed of sharp points; and all the gold of the sea under him is an immense quantity of clay.	η ψυχή αυτού άνθρακες φλοξ δε εκ στόματος αυτού εκπορεύεται
22He makes the deep boil like a brazen caldron; and he regards the sea as a pot of ointment,	εν δε τραχήλω αυτού αυλίζεται δύναμις έμπροσθεν αυτού τρέχει απώλεια
23and the lowest part of the deep as a captive: he reckons the deep as his range.	σάρκες δε σώματος αυτού κεκόλληνται καταχέει επ΄ αυτόν ου σαλευθήσεται
24There is nothing upon the earth like to him, formed to be sported with by my angels.	η καρδία αυτού πέπηγεν ώσπερ λίθος έστηκε δε ώσπερ άκμων ανήλατος
25He beholds every high thing: and he is king of all that are in the waters.	στραφέντος δε αυτού φόβος θηρίοις τετράποσιν επί γης αλλομένοις
26	εάν συναντήσωσιν αυτώ λόγχαι ουθέν ου πτοήσωσι δόρυ και θώρακα
27	ήγηται μεν γαρ σίδηρον άχυρα χαλκόν δε ώσπερ ξύλον σαθρόν
28	ου τρώσει αυτόν τόξον χάλκειον ήγηται πετρόβολον μεν χόρτον
29	ως καλάμη ελογίσθησαν σφύραι καταγελά δε σεισμού πυρφόρου
30	η στρωμνή αυτού οβελίσκοι οξείς πας δε χρυσός θαλάσσης επ΄ αυτόν ώσπερ πηλός αμύθητος
31	άναζει την άβυσσον ώσπερ χαλκείον ήγηται δε την θάλασσαν ώσπερ εξάλειπτρον
32	τον δε τάρταρον της αβύσσου ώσπερ αιχμάλωτον ελογίσατο άβυσσον εις περίπατον
33	ουκ έστιν ουδέν επί της γης όμοιον αυτώ πεποιημένον εγκαταπαίζεσθαι υπό των αγγέλων μου
34	παν υψηλόν ορά αυτός δε βασιλεύς πάντων των εν τοις ύδασιν

Chapter 42

1Then Job answered and said to the Lord,	υπολαβών δε Ιωβ τω κυρίω λέγει
2I know that thou canst do all things, and nothing is impossible with thee.	οίδα ότι πάντα δύνασαι αδυνατεί δε σοι ουδέν
3For who is he that hides counsel from thee? or who keeps back his words, and thinks to hide them from thee? and who will tell me what I knew not, great and wonderful things which I understood not?	τις γαρ εστιν ο κρύπτων σε βουλήν φειδόμενος δε ρημάτων και σε οίεται κρύπτειν τις δε αναγγελεί μοι α ουκ ήδειν μεγάλα και θαυμαστά α ουκ επιστάμην
4But hear me, O Lord, that I also may speak: and I will ask thee, and do thou teach me.	άκουσον δε μου κύριε ίνα καγώ λαλήσω ερωτήσω δε σε συ δε με δίδαξον
5I have heard the report of thee by the ear before; but now mine eye has seen thee.	ακοήν μεν ωτός ήκουόν σου το πρότερον νυνί δε ο οφθαλμός μου εώρακέ σε
6Wherefore I have counted myself vile, and have fainted: and I esteem myself dust and ashes.	διό εφαύλισα εμαυτόν και ετάκην ήγημαι δε εμαυτόν γην και σποδόν
7And it came to pass after the Lord had spoken all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Thaemanite, Thou hast sinned, and thy two friends: for ye have not said anything true before me, as my servant Job has.	εγένετο δε μετά το λαλήσαι τον κύριον πάντα τα ρήματα ταύτα τω Ιωβ είπεν ο κύριος Ελιφάζ τω Θαιμανίτη ήμαρτες συ και οι δύο φίλοι σου ου γαρ ελαλήσατε ενώπιόν μου αληθές ουδέν ώσπερ ο θεράπων μου Ιωβ
8Now then take seven bullocks, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and he shall offer a burnt-offering for you. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will only accept him: for but his sake, I would have destroyed you, for ye have not spoken the truth against my servant Job.	νυν δε λάβετε επτά μόσχους και επτά κριούς και πορεύθητε προς τον θεράποντά μου Ιωβ και ποιήσει κάρπωσιν περί υμών ότι ει πρόσωπον αυτού λήψομαι ει μη δι΄ αυτόν απώλεσα αν υμάς ου γαρ ελαλήσατε αληθές κατά του θεράποντός μου Ιωβ
9So Eliphaz the Thaemanite, and Baldad the Sauchite, and Sophar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them: and he pardoned their sin for the sake of Job.	επορεύθη δε Ελιφάζ ο Θαιμανίτης και Βαλδάδ ο Σαυχίτης και Σωφάρ ο Μιναίος και εποίησαν καθώς συνέταξεν αυτοίς ο κύριος και έλυσε την αμαρτίαν αυτοις διά Ιωβ
10And the Lord prospered Job: and when he prayed also for his friends, he forgave them their sin: and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even the double of what he had before.	ο δε κύριος ηύξησε τον Ιωβ ευξαμένου δε αυτού και περί των φίλων αυτού αφήκεν αυτοίς την αμαρτίαν έδωκε δε ο κύριος διπλά όσα ην εμπροσθεν Ιωβ εις διπλασιασμόν
11And all his brethren and his sisters heard all that had happened to him, and they came to him, and so did all that had known him from the first: and they ate and drank with him, and comforted him, and wondered at all that the Lord had brought upon him: and each one gave him a lamb, and four drachms' weight of gold, even of unstamped gold.	ήκουσαν δε πάντες οι αδελφοί αυτού και αι αδελφαί αυτού πάντα τα συμβεβήκοτα αυτώ και ήλθον προς αυτόν και πάντες όσοι ήδεισαν αυτόν εκ πρώτου φαγόντες δε και πιόντες παρ΄ αυτώ παρεκάλεσαν αυτόν και εθαύμασαν επί πάσιν οις επήγαγεν επ΄ αυτώ ο κύριος έδωκε δε αυτώ έκαστος αμνάδα μίαν και τετράδραχμον χρυσούν άσημον
12And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job, more than the beginning: and his cattle were fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, a thousand she-asses of the pastures.	ο δε κύριος ευλόγησε τα έσχατα Ιωβ η τα έμπροσθεν ην δε τα κτήνη αυτού πρόβατα μύρια τετρακισχίλια κάμηλοι εξακισχίλιαι ζεύγη βοών χίλια όνοι θήλειαι νομάδες χίλιαι
13And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.	γεννώνται δε αυτώ υιοί επτά και θυγατέρες τρεις
14And he called the first Day, and the second Casia, and the third Amalthaea's horn.	και εκάλεσε την μεν πρώτην ημέραν την δε δευτέραν Κασίαν την δε τρίτην Αμαλθαίας κέρας
15And there were not found in comparison with the daughters of Job, fairer women than they in all the world: and their father gave them an inheritance among their brethren.	και ουχ ευρέθησαν κατά τας θυγατέρας Ιωβ βελτίους αυτών εν τη υπ΄ ουρανόν έδωκε δε αυταίς ο πατήρ κληρονομίαν εν τοις αδελφοίς
16And Job lived after his affliction a hundred and seventy years: and all the years he lived were two hundred and forty: and Job saw his sons and his sons' sons, the fourth generation.	έζησε δε Ιωβ μετά την πληγήν έτη εκατόν τεσσαράκοντα και είδεν Ιωβ τους υιούς αυτού και τους υιούς των υιών αυτού τετάρτην γενεάν
17And Job died, an old man and full of days: and it is written that he will rise again with those whom the Lord raises up. This man is described in the Syriac book as living in the land of Ausis, on the borders of Idumea and Arabia: and his name before was Jobab; and having taken an Arabian wife, he begot a son whose name was Ennon. And he himself was the son of his father Zare, one of the sons of Esau, and of his mother Bosorrha, so that he was the fifth from Abraam. And these were the kings who reigned in Edom, which country he also ruled over: first, Balac, the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dennaba: but after Balac, Jobab, who is called Job, and after him Asom, who was governor out of the country of Thaeman: and after him Adad, the son of Barad, who destroyed Madiam in the plain of Moab; and the name of his city was Gethaim. And his friends who came to him were Eliphaz, of the children of Esau, king of the Thaemanites, Baldad sovereign the Sauchaeans, Sophar king of the Minaeans.	και ετελεύτησεν Ιωβ πρεσβύτερος και πλήρης ημερών
