Yes, both are uploaded to commons but which one to choose for nomination? 82.167.156.101 22:55, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
I would flip through the files (page by page) at IA, and see that all pages are in the scan and all are scanned properly. It's possible one (or both) of the scans is missing a page or is damaged. Then pick the one with the cleaner scan. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:34, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

This will need to be replaced with the actual table of contents from the scan, in order to conform to Wikisource standards. I have let the editor know, and they reverted me. Microscopical Researches Into the Accordance in the Structure and Growth of Animals and Plant

This is one of the most important texts in the history of biology, where Theodor Schwann inaugurates the Cell Theory. I've been working on it for a while; it is my first WikiSource contribution, so I am still learning all the details. But I think, nevertheless, that it is in good shape for community help.

The translation contains two books: the Microscopical Researchers, by Schwann, and Contributions to Phytogenesis, by Schleiden.

Hathitrust scan, public domain due to lack of renewal. Though it would probably have to be uploaded locally since it's possible that the book was simultaneously published in Japan and the US, making Japan the country of origin due to having a shorter term of protection. Prospectprospekt (talk) 14:07, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

On second thought, it's possible that this book was only published in Japan, making its copyright restored by the URAA; if that's the case then feel free to disregard this nomination. Prospectprospekt (talk) 14:21, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
It was first published in the US in '76, which is before the URAA date, so I'm pretty sure that it's not PD. — Alien333 (what I did & why I did it wrong) 11:59, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

One book with three Volumes

This book by Henry Thomas Hamblin highlights how our thoughts shape our lives. Hamblin emphasizes the power of positive thinking and the ability to control and direct thoughts to create success and well-being. By focusing on constructive thoughts, individuals can transform their circumstances and achieve happiness, health, and personal growth.

I could be mistaken, but are you sure this is PD? While the publication date might be 1920 (unsure, but if so PD-US-expired), it still doesn't look like it was first published in the US. Then PD in country of origin is 1953 for 70 years after author's death, which according to Wikipedia was 1958 for Hamblin. I am far from an expert in these matters, so please correct me if I am mistaken. Regards, TeysaKarlov (talk) 20:56, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
In the United States, books, films, and other media published in 1928 enter the public domain in 2024. So, the Power of Thought by Henry Thomas Hamblin is in the public domain. It was originally published in 1924, and since works published before 1928 are typically in the public domain in many jurisdictions (including the U.S.), it is freely available. You can find it on public domain platforms such as Project Gutenberg.

82.167.156.229 21:33, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

It is PD in the US but also as mentioned not PD in the UK until 2029, since Hamblin died in 1958. That means it is hostable on WS since we only require PD in the US. However, we also tend not to highlight works in the Monthly Challenge which are not PD also in their country of origin as it precludes participation by international contributors. • Index:Man; king of mind, body, and circumstance (IA mankingofmindbo00alle).pdf by James Allen teaches that individuals shape their destiny through their thoughts. By mastering the mind and body, one can control their circumstances. Allen emphasizes that positive thinking and self-discipline lead to personal growth and success, while negative thinking causes adverse outcomes. The key message is that our outer reality reflects our inner state. Done

This was started a few years ago, but the project's main user seems to have left Wikisource in 2022. As I am interested in helping to transcribe the post-Baum books, which had resumed entering public domain in 2019, I would like to nominate this one. This is also the first novel done by Ruth Plumly Thompson, she actually ended up writing more Oz books than Baum did. In her initial run thru 1939 she wrote 19 books, and later in the 1970s she wrote two more books, totaling to 21. If there is interest in this then we might be able to work on her follow-ups through The Giant Horse of Oz which just entered the public domain this year.--SDudley (talk) 04:01, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Thank you! SDudley (talk) 17:41, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
@MER-CHi. Would we be able to move this, and the later entries by Thompson, to the long-running series nomination? I think it would work better there than in the monthly challenge. And it would allow for an easier continuity of transcribing the series since new entries will enter public domain each year for the next 10 years. SDudley (talk) 16:24, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Done. MER-C 17:21, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
@MER-C looks like the royal book of oz is just needing validating now and the monthly challenge thing auto-updated with Ozma of Oz since that is the next Oz book in chronological order not yet transcribed. I was hoping to focus on the Plumly Thompson works instead of the Baum. Are we able to put Kabumpo in Oz on the no-expiry monthly challenge instead? SDudley (talk) 01:58, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

It's our only scan-backed edition of it. It's now as good as I can make it, but it still needs validation. (Though it is large and it will take a while) — Alien333 (what I did & why I did it wrong) 17:11, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

@Alien333 Funny you should type this request. I had planned to quietly add Anna Karenina to next/this month's MC (depending on your time zone), and hopefully avoid any noise for a validation request for the MC being raised. Had you only waited a few more hours... For context, and for whatever reason(s), there had been minor longstanding disagreements about whether validate only texts have a place in the MC (longstanding relative to the MC's history). To avoid the seeming-commonplace and seeming-endless discussions/proposals (about seemingly everything), I had opted for a quieter approach last month, and so long as I didn't add the wrong work, figured no one would raise a fuss if I continued the trend. Hopefully that will still be the case, if/when I add a couple more validate only texts to next/this month's MC. We'll see what happens, and thanks for all your contributions on this index thus far. Any Russian translations by someone other than Constance Garnett are always to be welcomed. While Constance Garnett was prolific, and raised awareness of Russian literature to the English-speaking world, her translations are generally held in low regard by top Russian writers, and certainly have their problems. In "The Energies of Men," William James argues that humans possess far more physical, mental, and emotional energy than they typically use. He explains that most people limit themselves by habit, rarely pushing beyond their comfortable boundaries. James highlights the "second wind" phenomenon, where, under pressure, people discover hidden reserves of energy. He suggests that by challenging these self-imposed limits and adopting a positive mindset, individuals can unlock their true potential. The work encourages readers to push past their perceived barriers to achieve greater personal growth and accomplishment.

Looking Backward: 2000–1887 by Edward Bellamy follows Julian West, who falls asleep in 1887 and wakes up in the year 2000, finding a socialist utopia. In this future society, the government controls production, wealth is equally distributed, and everyone works in an "industrial army" for limited hours. Technology has reduced labor, and people enjoy more leisure time. The novel contrasts this peaceful, equal society with the poverty and inequality of the 19th century, critiquing capitalism and envisioning a more just future.

No problem. I am happy to include them in whichever order you would prefer. Regards, TeysaKarlov (talk) 01:49, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

@Jan.Kamenicek Thanks for creating the index, and noting that it has been added for October (I figure it is closer to the start of the month than the end of it, after all). Regards, TeysaKarlov (talk) 06:53, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. Unfortunately, I did not notice that 2 pages were missing. I have replaced the file for a better now, but 1 page (no. 13) is still missing. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 15:07, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
File fixed. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 14:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
